I've also been approached about alpha testing it - but TBH haven't had time to look yet.  I think I will and hopefully he's an ok dude. :)

Thanks hali!  I appreciate the vote of support!

I'm glad to be back as well - I was on a 3 week stock photo trip.  We shot 25,000 images!  I have to process a few more weddings before I can touch the images but yes, it's great to be back!

As far as the hack - I wasn't hacked personally - I do have antivirus, etc.  My site was hijacked.  Probably through a script in wordpress or something.  I need to figure that out still.  :(  Sites are still down and likely to be for a bit.  :(  I hope I can get some traffic back once they return but we'll see.  I bet most of it won't be from Ghana. ;)

Very sad - we'd stopped talking awhile ago after he got mad at me for something idiotic but I didn't know he was this far ... sad.

Site Related / Re: Can anyone see a point the blogs section?
« on: September 15, 2008, 10:46 »
I think so.  A lot of us have our blogs now and if people don't want to read it, they can skip it altogether.  Some people don't like the "self promotion" of it all - but others would like to get their sites going and readers to see if they're interested.  I know me, Lee, Kosmik and a few others pretty regularly blog.  I don't usually post the entire message on here but it's nice to know if I post a cool update I have a place to put it that people can avoid reading if they're not going to like it in the first place.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Wedding Photography Resources
« on: September 15, 2008, 10:43 »
I think, male or female, things like Flickr create this "culture" where people search for each other's good work and praise it.  Then they get praise upon praise, sometimes for an average photo.  Sometimes for work that's "easy" and then people see a pro work, decide they "do the same things" and go pro.  Whether male or female if they don't have a business plan, marketing money, backup gear, insurance and such, they're just setting themselves up for "well sure it's good work .. when it's FREE.... but $200?  $2500?  HECK NO!"

Sites like ILP have fostered this "Photo Mom" mentality (and it's true over there - I'm not picking on the women) where you have like 100 women photographers get together.  And instead of the top 15 going pro, the top 85 go pro.  That doesn't work.  Men OR women (the man version is FredMiranda.com forums - where guys talk about gear and once you get enough of it, you can shoot your first wedding too!)

The wedding market is at an interesting place right now.  With all the knowledge out there available free online it takes maybe ... a month ... to get your business up to speed.  But it takes a good 3 years to get people's photography up there.  So it's easier to start with a great photographer & get them to have a good business than it is to start with these bare bones Flickr/ILP/FM kits and see what they can do as they go.

There's a mentality in the wedding biz created by one of its top pros that says "Jump in over your head, then swim to the top."  Look at the sales on these forums.  You'll see now more than ever in the past people selling off their entire kits.  Guess they can't swim that well.  (And no, I'm NOT sad about the consolidation of the business, the I can do it too mentality being almost over...)

It's part of the business cycle.  Consolidation is a very important step in the next wave of growth, which should be transferring from "some" awareness to a few major companies having MASSIVE awareness.

If you try weddings without being committed, you'll need to be committed when you're done.

Weddings are what I do full time,  micro is a "fun hobby" right now.  Check out OSP - I'll go through approvals later tonight or tomorrow as I mod that forum.

People who are really good at weddings - wedding work is something they feel, not do.  Not to mention you'll need to check your business skills.  Weddings aren't about shooting.  Weddings are about business.  Understand taxes, credit card information law, insurance, album design, and how to NOT try and give a bride spot color images because that's like ... going to get you laughed at.  Add in contracts, branding, dual or triple backup storage, drunken groomsmen and such....

Why do you think I do microstock? ;)

Don't pay Jay any mind guys. ;)  Jay is quoted as saying "i would not submit to someone like istock...i think that is just asking for trouble."

Haha - I'm mostly kidding with Jay.  He's a good commercial photographer I know from another site.

Welcome to MSG Jay - I hope your learning experience is a positive one.   (And if I make more than you within the year, maybe you'll rethink the micro macro thing. haha)

And keep in mind there's a few sites that won't accept silhouettes.  At least not many.  "Poor lighting" LOL

StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert review times...
« on: July 26, 2008, 13:10 »
It seems the rumors about more images & more sales = faster review times is true.  I haven't waited 24 hours for a review since I passed 500 images online and $20 earned.  It seems they want to help me now. lol

I still can't get a folder fixed...but it's only 60 files.  No worries, I guess.

PS change the title of your post, it says IS not SS ;)

Trust me, anyone that has ever read anything I have written knows I'm not talking about ISuck.  I have 89 there and 1100 everywhere else. LOL  ;)

Thanks for the info all - just wanted to make sure it wasn't just me & my cache.

I can see www.shutterstock.com but I can't hit Submit.shutterstock.com  Is submit down or is it my issue?  Thx.

So basically I'm right it works that way and you are right it doesn't on Istock because of keyword spammers.  LOL  Very cool.  I love microstock.  Yep, I'd add dog back to that image. lol

373
Then it's not Controlled Vocabulary.

Controlled Vocabulary is a heirarchical keywording system.  Which means *by definition* that keywords are embedded deeper & deeper into a heirarchy.  lol

I'm going to have to email IS about this or something.

If you search chihuahua, yes you should get chihuahua photos only.  I'm saying the other way around - if you search dog, you SHOULD get all those chihuahua photos TOO.  Let's put it this way:

If your keywords are animal, pet, dog and you search chihuahua, you SHOULD find your image.  That's *what* Controlled Vocabulary is.  It's not some random "way" of doing keywording that Istock made up.  It's a brand name.  http://www.controlledvocabulary.com  That's what they do - heirarchies. lol

SJ - you're exclusive?  Why don't YOU email this to Istock and see what they say?  They'll get back to you about 8 times faster than they will me.

General Stock Discussion / Re: your most laughable rejection

I submitted some silhouettes and attached the MRs for the models.  Dreamstime rejected them for:

"Does not need model release"

We're talking about IS's CV - is it the same as Lightroom's?

Anyway, in that dog example, "dog" was removed, the breed was added.  Therefore someone looking for "dog", not for a specific breed, won't find this image.  The same goes for my case, in which "rose" was removed, so it won't show in a search for roses.

I think it's the same.  You wouldn't SEE the keyword dog, but it should be there as upper levels of the heirarchy.  Otherwise there's no sense to using controlled vocabulary.  That's EXACTLY what it is - a heirarchy so that ALL "chihuahua" photos are in dog.  ALL dog photos are in pet.  ALL pet photos are in animal.  I'm pretty certain that's how it works, meaning the person did the dog photographer a favor.  What was added when rose was removed?  Something more specific or nothing?  Nothing = error.

As far as CV - this is the way it should work.  Let me find an example...
