Zoom is back! From the forum:

"Howdy!

Basic Zoom will be live in the next half hour or so. One change is that the feature will be available to both logged out AND logged in users. We also changed how the content loads, so the use of the tool is a little more seamless (no annoying spinning wheels).

In the New Year we'll be rolling out some additional features. More about them as the date approaches!

Enjoy -

Jay"

I find it curious that a post about communication is released late on a Friday afternoon. In the US that is known as the "Friday Night Dump". The reasoning is that is best time of the week to release news to the least amount of people that would notice it. Sort of cushions the blow.

Could be a coincidence, but all the same, curious.

That's interesting...  Since they sterted accepting pngs I've been routinely uploading a png with each isolation and have yet to see a png sale - on the other hand, tons of subs isolation sales  :-\

I also include additional format PNGs with my uploads. I sell about 4 PNGs for each 20 that are downloaded. Even if it's a sub sale, it's easy and might lead to a buyer choosing my file over another. Always looking for a sales advantage.  (I did have one sell for 50 credits)

Off Topic / Re: Survey Monkey - Microstock Ten Questions

Alamy is second biggest earner. Don't understand why it is left off the survey or is not included in the poll to the right of this page.

"I checked my JPG export presets and they're all set to sRGB by default anyway, so they should be right. Any ideas?"

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy cutting all commissions by 10%
« on: November 21, 2012, 13:34 »

Sales at Alamy are pretty lame from what I read on their forum.

I think most people posting on the forum are there to complain rather than brag about how well they are doing. Alamy is my second best earner after Shutterstock.

Let's see if this works: Here is an example.

Stockboy,

I just dragged your image to my desktop and discovered that it was saved in RBG. You should save them in sRBG, if you want to maintain accurate color across all browsers. Could be your problem. You want the inspectors to see what you're seeing on your monitor.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Unions kill another Company

Well dang. I've done a lot of commissioned photo shoots for Hostess and Dolly Madison packaging, over the years. (Although, nothing in the last two years). I guess this is going to kind of date my portfolio. Hard to know if I should leave the samples in, to show that I was associated with an iconic company, or if it will be seen as a failed business.

Do you still submit to Bigstock if you have a portfolio at Shutterstock?

His name is unclickable now.
I've got a feeling this thread is about to be retired to the dustbin.

362
Sounds like you violated the Terms of Agreement. Did you use someone else's work for reference on your vectors? Without seeing your submissions, we can't help you much.

363
Seems to me that a court finding in favor of the eyeglass company would be opening a slippery slope. That would mean that any image with an "object" in it would be subject to design infringement.

Dreamstime.com / Re: 'similars' vendetta continues
« on: November 09, 2012, 15:37 »
After my last rejection for "similar" last spring, I'm very careful to get as creative as possible with file names, titles, descriptions and keywords. I never repeat previous info. Once accepted, I go back and enter the info that makes sense.

It's childish, but it's part of the game they make you play.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Selling all rights to an image
« on: November 06, 2012, 14:18 »
Where can you find that number?

I am in the understanding its based on the potential income an image has.

If the image makes you 1000 dollar a year, then  would hang on to it instead of selling it for 3000

But I am not experienced in this, thats why I am asking.

The price is based on what I get for commissioned work. That's how I would approach it's worth. How many images, in your portfolio, are earning $1000 a year? Allsa has already stated that it's not a top seller.  If the buyer is for real, this is a reasonable price.

$2500 - $3000. That would be about the rate for a commissioned buyout illustration of this type.

My new uploads are selling the day after approval. It's always reassuring that I made the right call for what's in demand.  :)

Selling Stock Direct / Keywording on your Website

Here's a weird question. When keywording the photos that you sell on your personal website, do you include your name? How would that affect Google searches?

Photo Critique / Re: 2nd Rejection from Istock...

The second one has a nice composition. Need to brighten it up. Also, the white background needs to be 100% white with no color cast.

I do a lot of product illustrations for Ad agencies. There are times when it is impossible for me to shoot an image. For instance, there might be a flower or food that is out of season. This is when I turn to microstock for help. Since the budget for these projects is usually large, I'm more interested in choices rather than price. Needless to say that Dreamstime would be the last place to look since they limit their choices because they don't want too many "similars".

Also, working with Ad agencies gives me great feedback as to what is currently in demand, and what subject choices might be lacking in Microstock. When I see a hole, I start shooting and submit that subject to my portfolio.

We had some technical issues earlier, but I believe they are resolved now. What are you using to upload?

I was using Safari and Firefox. Neither worked. After the uploading bar goes to 100% a window appears saying there are no Unfinished files.

Very low sales but I get a cash out occasionally.  As they've survived when many other sites have failed, I'm pleased I uploaded to them back in 2006.  I don't upload much anymore, just check sales about every 3 months.
