General Photography Discussion / Re: Hubpages

Most people make money by selling procuts and books. For instance, if I write about Toronto, I can list a few Amazon travel books on the topic. If I write about computer, I can link a few Amazon sellers too.

I am not good at selling things. I just treat this like Flickrs, with the added bonus that I may make a few dollars there while sharing with friends. I am also toying with the idea that if it is possible that people may buy photo prints from me through my hubs. Haven't sold any, and just have to wait and see.

Quote from: Orchidpoet on August 28, 2010, 21:50I have been on Hubpages for 6 weeks now, mostly to share my travel experience with my photos. My hubs have been read over 3000 times, not sure if it's good not not. I made $10 in the first month, definitely not a lot of money.
Forget all that crap. Make your own site on Wordpress (free) and sign up for a Google Ads account. If your content is good, you won't need those "passive income" sharks that make ten times the money you could earn ever with those morons.
Have a look in the hubpages forums.  There are people making money there and they aren't all making hubs about making money on the internet.  How would I get as much traffic and good search placement with my own blog?

I am not on WorldPress, but if it relies on Google Adsense, it's the same idea. Hubpages also makes money from Google Adsense. You need the readers to click on your link though. If no click, no money no matter how good your writing is.

Just published this one last night, take a look if you like:http://hubpages.com/hub/Hidden-Landscape-Treasures-In-Lake-Huron.
I think this is the referral link, but not sure because no one has signed up because of me yet. http://hubpages.com/my/tracker/2oc3u157inb7c

Congrats! I haven't had any ELs for many months now.

I am confused about the banking terms.

In Canada, if I get money through wire transfer, I will get charged twice, once by the overseas paying bank, and again by my home bank ($15).

But if someone makes a deposit to my bank account, there is no fee to me.

The question is whether or not Alamy can make direct deposit to my Canadian bank account without incurring fees to me.

I was there last year.

Here is my blog with some photos about the trip:

It is totally true that CV needs to be updated more frequently. It is also understandable that iStock staff cannot be be experts in all areas of knowledge.

A few examples are about geographical locations. For instance, the current CV designates "Scarborough" as a location in UK, but there are also Scarborough in Toronto Canada and perhaps other Common Wealth countries. The CV also designates Wuxi (China) as the Grand Canal, but Grand Canal goes through many Chinese cities and provinces, and Wuxi is just one of them. However I don't expect iStock staff to have personal knowledge about all these, and agree with Whitechild that CV should not be too tight to exclude other valid alternatives.

At least they have paid me today, glad they have sorted it out.

This is my guess because it happened to me before both at IS and DT.

Did it happen after the daylight saving time become effective? if so, it is possible that your computer time was not correctly set. Hope it helps.

I don't have any problems either.

So far, it has been even better than IS thanks to an EL.

Hope IS will catch up eventually.

Oops, IS has caught up today. :)

They also withheld my payment which was due last month. There was no response to my emails either.

My balance is now in the negative. I will see if they pay me this month. I cannot believe they are taking such a low route in treating its contributors.

Thanks for pointing out this. But I had got a confirmation that my account was deleted, and received my final payment in Febuary.

Besides, I cannot log in anymore. When I requested the password, the site said that my emaill address does not exist. How can they still sell my photos when my account does not exist anymore?

I have written to both PM and Reflexstock to ask for the termination again.
#389
I have requested deletion of my images from PatherMedia and have received a kind confirmation from Robert on January 21, 2010.

Then I got a sales report on Feb 5, 2010, so I sent another deletion request, including sending a request from PM's site.

However, I still found my images on this site which I assume is a partner site of PM: http://www.reflexstock.com/image/14306260/White-orchid.html

Why my images are not deleted and how can I get them removed from both PM and partner sites?

Good points! :)

@Sharply Done,
no. I will never let money take over my life.
No matter the amount.

I will not let the fear of competition and losing sales stand in my way of helping people.
I feel good about it, it's in my nature, and I will always do it.

But it gets even worse.
Not only I want to help newbies, but I'm constantly pestering my friends and collegues to join microstock. I'm irritating everyone around me and I keep at it.
No, I have no referral links, I never will.

I think the fear of the newbie/ competiton is absurd. A futile waste of energy and a lost fight.

@Louis Santos,
do whatever you want with your blog and referrals. Get as many as you can for all I care, good luck to you!
But I have a favour to ask you :)
Take ThinkStock/Photos.com off your list.

It's not the bewildered newbie and his Canon Rebel who's a danger to this industry. It's the 0.25 cent from Getty.
Unfortunately there are a lot of experienced photographers who actively upload there. Not much I can do about it.
The time has come to fall in love with IStock's upload limits.
My only hope.

Hey, I think it's better for 123rf's reputation to pay the money owed to its photographers first, before pretending to be generous.

Pay me!!!

My earning balance is still in the negative. All my earnings from September 2009 were wiped out.

No one has bothered to reply to my inquiries.

123rf, do the honorable thing!!

Amounting earned + negative balance = discrepency

For me, my earning discrepency is over $70.

Besides, 123rf should have the decency to reply to those of us who are affected and have inquired about it, with an apology!

I have not received any reply from 123 management. I'll wait and see if I receive any money I am entitled to.

I used to be Alex's defender on another forum. Now I don't know what to think.

This has nothing to do with my browsers. I have checked this from various browsers from different computers in various countries. It looks like 123rf thinks that it can keep my earned income if it plays deaf. That's theft!!

Quote from: FD-amateur on February 22, 2010, 17:41
I just uploaded a batch of 10 to 123RF and all went fine without any glitch, as it is always the case. I can and could always log in and check my earnings. I never had negative earnings and they pay out automatically between 55 and 80$.

The site is programmed well, they have the best Model Release module around and they don't have categories. Their rejections are a bit odd regularly, but that's their loss and not mine. It takes no extra effort to upload there and finishing on site is done in one minute. In short, a low maintenance site with no drama.

They pay me a nice seafood dinner for two every month, plus a nice cold bottle of beer of 1l (making me very happy, toasting to Alex), plus the taxi forth and back. Some months it's a bit less, some months a bit more.

I don't have any idea about the glitches reported here. Maybe it's a browser issue? I use Filezilla + Firefox.

123rf management has not responded why it has not paid me for the income earned before Feb 2010, and nor responded to my inquiries. My negative balance remains unchanged.

If 123rf has decided to keep my earned income to itself, at least it should offer an explanation. It's totally illegal and a breach of contract. I am totally disgusted.

Apparently it works great for low light conditions and very fast. Professional journalists love it.

123RF / Re: Site problems at 123?
February 22, 2010, 21:00
As I said in another thread, even though I had reached a payout, my account balance went to minus after I deleted some photos and they have not paid me, nor replied to my emails.

I would never had thought that 123 would do that!

No, unless your pictures appear under Hemera collection.

I still haven't heard anything from 123rf. No payment was made either.

The Chinese New Year has been over.
