Cats are quite intelligent but I think you have as much chance of herding them as getting this to fly.......sad but true I think

no one said or insinuated that
Well Shutterstock and other sites seem to think so?
Surely it's not about being old-timers, it's about having a track record of producing stuff people want to buy. One person might have 100 images sitting there from 2004 and still be on the bottom earnings tier while another who started uploading six months ago could already have reached the top tier if he or she is really, really good.
Thanks I can see the Logic of that as a kind of incentive for producing marketable work but does create a perverse logic that it is in the interests of the supplier to encourage customers to go to lower tier supplier's  images.
Their interrest is to keep the customers happy by presenting them the best photos available.
If they start playing games, as you suggest, customers will notice and leave, going to agencies with better search algorithms, able to offer a better product.
Their foremost incentive is to keep their customers loyal and happy.

Actually I thnk you are right up to a point though many customers don't  want the best they want something fit for purpose so if two pictures meet that need then it may be that the supplier would want to promote the most profitable to them whether they are sophisticated enough to do this I'm not sure.

SS stock price (SSTK) plummet yesterday by 4.14%!
:-\ OUCH
Looks like share holders don't like the contributor backlash to a pay cut? Maybe they realize contributors own the content SS is selling and are worried? Nice that someone is I guess...
Doubt that has anything to do with it.....Stocks are all over the place at the moment and anyway its way overpriced imho

Veer / Re: Veer dying ?
« on: January 26, 2016, 03:42 »
For it to get worse they'll have to come round my house and rob me.......I'm hanging on in the vain hope it just might get better though I suspect they might just close veer down and I might get my paltry funds sitting in there (If im lucky).

3956
You are probably about right for me I shoot stuff I enjoy shooting anyway and don't invest any money so I put time in on keywording and more post processing than I would do for my own needs. I make a little but revised down my earning expectations a long time back.....I'm the kind of person that the "Pros" hate!!!!

My sales have never been so ahead of the rest as they seem to have been for some in the past but they are holding up now. Though I have noticed its the older stuff that seems to sell.

« on: January 25, 2016, 03:42 »
The old IS reviewing before their change of policy was very tough but also fair I learnt a lot from their reviews when I was starting out. I don't think there is a site out there now that helps "newbies" in that way they are all a lottery

They certainly have been rejecting my pictures more efficiently lately :o. I doubt the level of inconsistency can be created by IT it takes humans to mess it up so badly.

They're an oddly conservative company. The same business model as when they started, sell it cheap stack it high.

If there's no innovation there can only be one outcome.

Because up till now its worked for them and the competition has been very poor. If someone cracks Quality Control and better ability to identify customer needs through better search/ customer insight technology they could be in trouble but lets wait for the next set of results before we start digging their grave they were still growing pretty fast last time they reported. And actually that model still works in retail after at least 100 years ....in the UK at least the big players forgot it and we now have European discounters snapping at their heels.

Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a pay rise it's no surprise
That they're giving none away
 ;D

In my previous life it always amused me how people paid far than me would constantly try and argue that money wasn't a motivator.

If only he'd done a Tomato it would have been $2m. While his portraits do look nice the person paying $1m for that was no doubt a prize Turnip

I'm on Veer the site has been dead for months so I'm struggling to see what the downside could be.......on the other hand is there an upside?

Yes you are right it is of course more complicated that's why every agency interprets it differently and there is no yes or no which is why I said its the agency's call

I'm not sure that legally you actually require a property release for ANYTHING......so its the agencies call and they tend to be cautious
