I'm working as well with Getty Images. RR is 30% and RF is 25%. Exclusive only.

I don't think their TV use price is expensive when you compare it with a tvc total budget. If I was the client or production company, I would be very happy to use stock footages instead of hiring an all director+crew. But except for advertising and corporate, I do think that all their others prices are too expensive.

If you also upload to Shutterstock or Pond5, how's the total sales at Gettys compare to them?  Is it more efficient there or at SS and P5?

I'm uploading to Getty.

The royalty rate varies between 20% and 35%.

This clip was sold for $2000 and with the royalty rate of 30% i've earned $600.

Also stills can be valuable.
This one was sold for $455. $91 (20%) for me:

Sometimes you can get there even really high earnings, like $10.000 for one single picture. I myself didn't experienced it yet, but maybe sometimes... ;)
But Getty has also a program called "Premium Access". That allows companies like "AOL" to download stuff for pennies. I'm going crazy every time my footage was sold for $15 or something like that!

iStock exclusive content is mirrored to Getty.
And yes, exclusive only.

Best regards,

Martin

Thank you for the info!  That's a great hyper lapse.  I see some video clips on Gettys that aren't great quality too.  So, I may try them to see if they accept my work.  If they do, I'll try uploading exclusive clips for Getty.  Do you upload to Shutterstock and Pond5 as well?  Those high price commission is great, but if they don''t sell as often as in Shutterstock and Pond5, it really doesn't mean much.

So, nobody right?

General - Stock Video / Anybody upload to Getty's (not iStock)?

or is it the same as iStock?

Their price is very expensive like almost $5,000 for TV use.  How much royalty does a contributor get?  Exclusive only?

Anybody knows?

And those "trend" shots are high cost shots.  You may never recover the expense for getting those shots.

Yup - and that's why all of my high cost shots (some similar to those in that trends video) will never end up on Shutterstock, otherwise I'd be running at a serious loss!

So, where do you sell your high cost videos?  Do you sell them as stock video somewhere or for an exclusive client?

I sell entirely non-exclusively - Pond5 works very well for me setting my own prices. I also license directly to producers. I also work with a few smaller / boutique agencies like Nature Footage and Framepool. I think in this day and age if you want to make money from nature footage it has to be unique or difficult to produce.

Smart!

I'll stick with what have been working for me so far and what's available around me to shoot.  It costs too much to chase animals and get those perfect shots.

I'm always a little skeptical of their trends. There may be a 400% increase in searches for a specific search term, but what does that mean, exactly? It could be that one person searched for it in 2014 and five people searched for it in 2015. Or it could be a million vs. five million. Same thing when iStock asks for specific types of images...it could be that one buyer called and said he couldn't find what he was looking for. The best example was SS asking for shots of school kids in certain specific countries wearing specific school uniforms. Clearly that's for one buyer.

I agree.

I think you need to hire somebody for that kind of stuff.

Rookies got to pay their dues so that OGs get paid better, just like in any business.

helloitsme, you praise this site so much, i wonder how you are connected to this site.  ;)

I'm just a contributor to the VideoBlocks just like any others here.  I'm sorry if your sales there stopped.  Maybe other big sellers are joining there and took your sales.

414
Big congrats!

I've yet to sell a 4K video (as 4K) on VB. In fact, it's been over 3 months without a single sale of any kind there; quite disappointing after the great start.

VB is dying, that model was never going to succeed

I believe you are correct.

My sales have been increasing.  December was a little slow due to holiday season, but it's back on track this month it seems.  Hopefully, the sales will increase again after short month of February.

Congrats!
But isn't $191 only about 5% of $4000? I was thinking royalties for contributors were above 15%. But I don't do video, so maybe 5% is standard?

LOL!  First, I didn't get it, but I hope you were joking!!

 :) :) :)

No wasn't joking, just ignorant about video. Thanks for lesson, Tror.  :) Judging by the other comments from those who know, sounds like you did well. So, again, congrats!

PS. Boy do i feel stupid.  :-[

Thank you!!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Anyone notice sales picking up??
« on: January 18, 2016, 14:09 »
Any one notice their sales picking up in the last week, week and a half or is it just me? Mainly on Dreamstime, Shutterstock, iStock and Big Stock....and somewhat on StockXpert.

It's getting better.

I'm not sure you can compare today's sales to those SEVEN YEARS AGO, lol.

Seven years are nothing comparing to millions of years past since the big bang that created the universe.

People are nice today!

I usually get cynical and some of them hostile and angry reaction comments.

 It's all good.

Heeeeeeeee..... :D  :)  ;) ......Cathy.....4K refers to the Video resolution, not the sales price. The predecessor was HD.

4K = 4096 x 2304 / 2160
UHD = 3840 x 2160
Full HD = 1920 x 1080

 :-*

Yes, that's what I meant.  LOL.

Slightly OT, since you guys are obviously uploading Prores, which agencies are actually selling those clips without conversion?

Pond5, Shutterstock, Videoblocks.
Ah, ok. Thanks :)

They convert to h264 or whatever for smaller size purchases, but they all keep original ProRes file for sale for the size (HD, 4K or whatever) you originally uploaded.  I hope they convert 4K ProRes file to 1080 ProRes file instead of compressing to lower quality.
