Alamy.com / Re: Alamy Rejection Rate Has More than Doubled
« on: November 30, 2015, 10:50 »
In the last two months they are rejecting :more often and more radically
Their QC is not good for high volume contributors.

Sorry - this is not correct. Our QC pass rate is currently 93% and we are passing more images than ever before.

If you're having problems, please email [email protected] and they'll be happy to help.

Cheers

Well done Alamy and a lesson for other sites .......yes you can communicate with your  suppliers  :D

General Stock Discussion / Re: Which gender sells more in general?

I suspect vast oversupply of young attractive females as most photographers are unattractive middle aged hetrosexual males like me who like taking pictures of pretty girls.

I tend to find the stuff that sells there doesn't sell so much on other sites it does thinks a bit differently thats why I quite like it.

People seem to love Prophesying disaster on this site .......decline maybe but lets not get carried away

For me fotolia has always come in cycles: 20 downloads in 2 days and then nothing for a couple of days, or weeks.
Which of course makes me think about their search engine.

And I hate it when the agencies search engines are being manipulated. Which they are.

All of them.

its not decent-Like if you are a farmer and sell corn cubs in your local store, you can walk in and see where they are placed in the shop.
For us photographers there is no such walk into the shop, to see how our goods are being placed, because all the agencies keep it ever  so secret.

I dont like that.

Cant really agree by its very nature a search engine is a manipulation it has to prioritise somehow so its a question of what is perceived as fair  and the big supermarkets TOTALLY manipulate their displays to the point of charging for prime end of line slots OK suppliers can see it but their is nothing they can do about it. (Handy hint look at the top and bottom of shelves for better value brands ;-) )

Pay out is $100 I believe - ironically and sadly about the highest in the industry - getting a payout from them is on my bucket list of really ambitious dreams!

Adobe Stock / Re: Understanding FT Sales
« on: November 19, 2015, 13:01 »
Since we're talking about understanding fotolia sales, I had some weird sales today. I had 3 sales of the same file in a period of 2 minutes, first sale was 0.29 sub sale, second was 0.38 sub sale, and third was 0,63 sub sale. And those were the first three sales of that file.

Would anyone know, what was that all about?

I've had two sub sales of the same image straight after each other a few times but never a "hat trick"

It does seem to go quiet with occasional flurries lately I suspect their flaky reporting

Dreamstime.com / Re: Do you believe that DT is dying?
« on: November 19, 2015, 03:10 »
For me DT has been okay,
with sales every day. Just had 6 sales per day.

If you set your goals low, you will be happy. Do you like $30 a month or less from an agency that is worse every month. Don't give up until they drag you down to the bottom and take advantage of your work for every penny they can squeese out of you. DT is dying.
Don't assume that everyone's results are the same as yours and you know what they earn  for some people DT may be very successful.

4015
Shutterstock paying out more money than any other agency.........the swines! Get real folks this is a capitalist marketplace.

4016
No one is to blame it is an inevitable consequence of the environment we live in if Shutterstock or Istock hadn't done it someone else would.

The exclusive model doesn't work any more unless you are exceptional too much competition out there

4018
In case anyone has missed it the title is meant to be ironic :-\

4019
Not QUITE that bad as sales are going up too.....but if you stand still or have a big portfolio built over time that you can't grow fast because of its base size  you can expect income to go down. Hence the reason some of the more seasoned contributors are seeing falling revenue I suspect.

4020
They were market leaders they aren't now Shutterstock may not be in a few years. I'd rather live in the present than spending my time prophesying disaster based on zero evidence. I don't have to be exclusive to SS so if they are replaced by Adobe its no skin off my nose.

4021
Not True for "Life style" pictures. For other categories my belief is it is true.

4022
I think Shutterstock is a awful site and even worse market company. Plus they are near all time lowers even with the fluffy earnings news. I expect a drop in commissions within a year.  http://data.cnbc.com/quotes/SSTK

I have no idea how you can reach this conclusion they are market leaders and have $282m sitting in the bank and for most contributors they generate the most income. Thats not a bad position to be in. Why is the earnings news "fluffy" its the anecdotal reports of individual contributors that is fluffy.

4023
OK I suspect it maybe because SS are trying to grow their market elsewhere as I think they have the US sewn up.

4024
You trying to say you don't like it Sue?

4025
Aren't there any talented artists outside the US?
