The November report will be VERY interesting.

4052
the reviewer refused half of the files claiming that the image subject is too specific/niche oriented and that was not generic enough. The day after all I sold 5 timorese pictures. Don't really get the logic.
are those 5 sales justifying your and your reviewers effort financially?

How can you possibly answer that until the images have been on sale for a lot longer?

O dear - I know people don't like the similars policy but I've always found DT to be one of the fairer reviewers - lets hope its just a blip.

I tried out PicNiche never seemed to work out  for me.......

4056
Maybe cos its the biggest market in the world?

4057
Isnt the average income for a photographer around 20 000 dollars in the US?

If everyone could make 5k per wedding it would be a superpopular job.

You only tend to hear about the top 1% not those working for days on photoshop and still being criticised by the bride and groom for not turning Shrek and Fiona into Cinderella and Prince Charming.

4058
I think there are a very small number of wedding photographers who can make $$$$$ I think it has more to do with marketing and interpersonal skills than anything else - which rules me out ::)

I didn't I just went back tried again and it worked.....just got lucky I guess

the problem with microstock is that high-cost-productions and highly creative unique work shouldn't be there. People should think twice what to upload there and what not that would be enough.

Is the correct answer ;-)

« on: October 19, 2015, 03:30 »
I don't take any notice of views as they seem inconsistent site to site and I don't know how they are derived.....maybe they've changed the way they measure them....when I did look at views I remember fotolias plummeted when they changed from counting when they appeared on a search page to when they were zoomed (I think).

I can't help thinking that at one time Yuri could of opened a site for everyone and it would probably be bigger than SS and istcok by now.  It would of been a huge gamble but I think it would of worked.  Maybe that's one reason why he isn't popular here?  There was something he could of done to help most of us and I don't blame him for going exclusive but can't help but think we could all be much better off if he had taken full advantage when he was at his peak of popularity with contributors and buyers.

Going exclusive wiped out that popularity with a lot of non-exclusives who see Getty/istock as a greedy site that has to keep its investors happy at their expense.

Think he's probably too much of a control freak took the much riskier step of employing people giving more control. What makes the Business model great for SS is that the suppliers bear nearly all the risk.

I can understand not wanting to waste time uploading to low selling agencies but can't see where the hassle is in keeping your port active. Maybe I'm an optimist but I always think maybe one of those low selling sites will start to do well for me - in one case (which shall remain nameless it has  :-X). My top 5 account for 76% of income  the next 10 which I upload to when I get round to it about 23.5% and the remaining 5 which are inactive the remainder.

Very well put the first sentence is key "Stock is Work".

IMO "out of focus" is the SS's way of saying: "We don't think your image
will be commercially successful - a statement Deposit Photo uses and I
highly respect. They don't think it'll be commercially successful? Fine. I
can live with that....but to throw in some erroneous statement like: Your image
is out of focus - or your image is poorly composed is totally disrespectful to
professional photographers around the world.

My two cents.

Totally agree

I stopped uploading to them-- images waiting for review too long.  Tired of having to email them every time to actually get them reviewed.

In the long run it does no harm to have them sitting there a while......I do currently have quite a few sitting in the queue. I've never bothered to mail them.

We all play by the same rules. It doesn't matter if you have 25 years or 25 days.

Thats the point I don't think we all get judged in the same way......opinion I know but I doubt the sheer volume of complaints from some very capable people is because they have suddenly become less comptetent.

Doubt it - unless your port is huge and outstanding  I don't think buyers are interested in you - only images

"To make things worse, every single buyer of a Shutterstock image loads that image into an Adobe program at some point. Adobe basically has their straw straight down into Shutterstocks customer list." Do they? Is this not equally true or otherwise for every other site out there?
