I much prefer flash its a little while since I used a studio so maybe they're better now - but not as powerful and while camera shake shouldn't be a problem (Guess it depends how pretty the model is I guess) flash freezes the action. I would also say some people make the lighting set up sound complex but unless you are doing something arty then keep it simple

I like to hear different views that's how we progress and learn. I don't like personal generalised attacks they don't help me.

What a lot of debate about something that's not going to happen.....unless perhaps SS start to lose sales which would not be a good time to go exclusive. I could be wrong of course but will think about it properly if it ever happens

Signed.....but isn't the example actually incorrect? The London Eye is private property?

Does light room have anything like the "U point" technology or something that produces similar results for the same very low effort?
Actually not, but with the correction-brush and the radial correction filter it comes very close. But you can always add the NIK-Filters for a cheap price with Lightrooms. The U-Point-Technology was originally developed by NIK and the NIK-Filters works fine with Lightroom. The NIK-Filter Viveza will give you the same feeling like Capture NX.
Thanks helpful answer thats the way I'm thinking I might go do you think its actually any better/worth switching though? I think what I've got works for me but given its age I can't help wondering if I'm missing out

I'm currently using Capture NX2 with a Nikon D7000. I really like the capabilities of NX2 but its getting old and its always been quite slow. I wonder if i'm missing out on anything from Lightroom Nik combination. I try and keep things simple and don't do complex post processing to me the only real weakness of the software is the weak cloning/object eraser feature. Any thoughts on whether an upgrade would be interesting to hear from anyone who has trodden this path.
Thanks

Also need to take into account the risk element i.e there is no guarantee you will sell at all again. Considering how downbeat many seem to be about the future it surprises me the value of sales they project.

Remember the annual survey? This is probably the best concrete evidence of how contributors are doing and you know what its not that bad.

Surely most people saw basically what was coming Fotolia for many is a toxic brand and adobe has achieved with photoshop the kind of recognition that hoover or thermos has. They'd be crazy not to use their brand. They also seem to have some seriously good IT to integrate into workflow.
If Shutterstock didn't see what was coming I overestimated them as for Istock who knows what they see on their own diminishing planet.

Adobe Stock is not good for any of us in the long run. I am surprised more of you can't see it.
In the long run its important that SS has some serious competition monopolies, which was the way the industry was headed, are bad for buyers and sellers the detailed "calculations" being made show an heroic ability to make assumptions based on flawed logic.

Adobe bought Fotolia so its not really a "partnership"
SAN JOSE, Calif. Jan. 28, 2015 Adobe (Nasdaq:ADBE) has completed its acquisition of privately held Fotolia, a leading marketplace for stock content. Adobe announced its intent to purchase Fotolia in December 2014 and the acquisition cements Creative Clouds role as a vibrant market for creatives to buy and sell assets and services as well as showcase their talent to a worldwide audience. Work will now begin on integrating Fotolia into Adobe Creative Cloud. This will provide current and future Creative Cloud members with the ability to access and purchase over 35 million images and videos, significantly simplifying and accelerating the design process. Adobe also plans to continue to operate Fotolia as a standalone stock service, accessible to anyone.

Maybe this is a bit too alarmist? http://www.zacks.com/stock/news/178678/is-the-adobe-stock-launch-bad-news-for-shutterstock
"Adobes CC users are some of the biggest users of stock images, videos and so forth, so Shutterstock is likely to lose this business entirely (unless maybe it competes very aggressively on price)."
Yes that does seem a bit extreme but I think it is a significant threat to S Stock and everyone else. I bet its top of their agenda to respond - if not they are sunk!

Yes we'll see but it's a fact that any buyer that converts from SS to Adobe is going to result in a substantial loss of revenue for you.
What can't cause a substantial loss in revenue these days? You can probably just add this to the long list. Yay! Positivity!
There are some people that are positive about this but I think that's just because they don't understand it.
There are some people who are negative but I think its just because its got nothing to do with Istock

Just had 2 out of 40 accepted possibly the two most boring/predictable stocky looking pics of the batch and one of them was technically borderline I felt. If it weren't so easy to upload no way would I bother. But when files do slip by the border guards they tend to sell reasonably.

People in general dislike change, and the industry is constantly changing.
One of the great managerial class myths - people dislike change that adversely affects them and uncertainty. I wouldn't do the lottery if I disliked change. When bad things happen to people at work managers tell them its cos they don't like change and should embrace the new "opportunities" tosh!

Alamy adopts a different philosophy it expects contributors to do their own QC - if one photo does not meet their technical requirements it rejects the whole batch (and puts you on the naughty step for about a month). They do not assess aesthetic or commercial value.

Once again the group extends its traditional warm welcome. Maybe we could learn something from someone who has actually bought images...... Sorry I was forgetting we know everything already
