Describe only what is in the image not what is imagined by you ~ its just spamming
I love this justification "flowers" they are there, you can not see them because of image resolution..." ~ good grief what nonsense
Imagining that something will get a sale for the 43 keywords that are not searched, or something that's not in the image is also nonsense. What buyer wants an image of something that's not there? I think that some people, since the beginning of microstock, are convinced that they can sell images, based on just being seem. Like putting apple for a photo of a tomato in case the buyer likes the image and decides to download it. No really! People have said just that. Someone tell me, if you are searching for a photo of an apple, don't you search for apple? Not tomato, because you might randomly see something so attractive, you just can't resist downloading a file you don't want or don't need?

Today I saw an ad for OnePixel on Facebook (where ad = "sponsored" post)
We can only hope that anyone with sense will not support this site and we can hope it will shrivel up and go away. Waiting for more Info before I do anything. We could use something fresh.....If it's real and actually fresh. For a Lot of us. this ain't our first Rodeo.
Waiting for more information and fresh? It's road kill, flat and dead, dollar photos which will steal sales from the established agencies and lower our earnings. Are you serious? The only thing real about this place is it's a real threat for suckers who upload. Of course maybe you thought dollar photo club was a great idea too?

They also bookmark a picture for future ref's go back and because of the constan search-change they cant find it!...oh well...
So they bookmark a single picture, and when they try to get it again, the URI for that picture has changed:? Run a mile from SS in that case. If that's really so, they have totally lost the plot. (Though to be honest, I can't see how the 'constant search change' would mean a single bookmarked pic couldn't be found. That would have to be a deliberate URI change.)
Yep! Just to give you an example! I know an AD at greys Advertising co who constantly buy hundreds perhaps even thousands of fill out shots for annuals, company profiles etc, etc and he always bookmark shots for future use, they all do! and when he goes back to page this or that the pics are gone of course, why?? well simply because they changed the algorithm which they always do!
The location or ID of an image doesn't change if the search changes. If you mean the person goes to page six of the search for something, or bookmarks that, that's really a dimwit move. New files come in, old files move, more popular move up. Only a total idiot would bookmark a page of a search for future use! Of course the search changes, it changes in minutes, hours and days, all the time. Tell the truth, you made this AD persons experience up, right?

I wonder if SS should do what Dreamstime does- any image that doesn't sell in a time period is removed. Of course, if SS just didn't accept the poor image in the first place they wouldn't have to worry about cleaning it up!
How's DT doing? Hmm, they went from 13.6 four years ago, people here earning an average of $680 a month to now, averaging $230 a month. Some great plan? I won't neglect that SS has dropped $500 a month for the average person here as well.

...I wonder if it is only me who is facing currently "falls" in sells at AS after the announcement that FT will be closed, while sells in SS are going up in this period... Do you think it is seasonal or, simply, new buyers have started to choose SS more often as a long-term partner after this news biased by uncertainty towards AS?
I see no change and no reason why in one week, after announcing the location of images would change from two mirrored sites to one main site, in Nov. 2019 would suddenly crash sales and buyers would leave? Really? That's pretty radical.

...yes, it is very logical to me, but this is a theory, unless, somebody did analysis of this algorithm in a real situation, basically a test, an experiment with real numbers, not assumptions... I would assume somebody did it already here or elsewhere and can share the knowledge...
Mat Hayward - Adobe's contributor rep - relayed information from one of Adobe's product managers about how it worked. It's possible that it has since changed or the information was wrong in the first place, but not sure how you could possibly do a valid test live, given the need for the same file with the same sales record and upload dates with two different keyword orders to check differences in search rank. Given that, why not go with what Adobe says about how they made it work?

Ordering keywords for newly uploaded files isn't hard. For older files, I would only make changes for your known (from other sites) best sellers to save time.
Thank you, let me put it another way. The reason we know that the first keywords are most important is that they told us. FT said the first nine, years ago. AS says the first seven and the first five are blue, for most important the editor of AS. I wish people would question the conspiracy theories and false caps or how once you go emerald your sales drop, as much as they question anything the agencies tell us straight out. Because someone said so. Or someone claims to know a friend who thinks so. If someone deosn't believe AS just keyword two images, one with the first seven relevant and the other with the same words last, and search. Make sure they are very distinctive, unique words, so you don't have to fish down 100 pages to find the one with the words last, is invisible. It won't show, ever for thosse words. Also as Jo Ann writes, 50 keywords is too many. Imagine that, the agency weights the first seven heaviest. What are the other 43 there for? And don't forget SS changes the words order, to what they find most important or relevant, and that changes. Still 50 words is far too many. I suppose someone desperate will hope that some obscure unrelated word will make a sale. WHY?

I thought I would start the topic for November sales. Sadly, due to poor sales on Shutter my November looks to be worse that what I made even compared to 2014/2015 years. I am sure there will be newbie's claiming BME but I wonder how the veteran's are doing?
Thought you might be interested in October 2014 poll numbers: Shutterstock 94.7 iStock 36.5 Fotolia 20.7 Dreamstime 13.6 Pond5 12.6 123RF 10 Alamy 8.3 DepositPhotos 6.9 Bigstockphoto 6.9 Envato 4.2 Canstockphoto 3.7 Veer 3.6 IS Exclusive 141.2 Some up, most down, Adobe double up from FT If I'm reading right, SS, IS, DT all down $500 a month for the poll?

It could also be because of the way your assets are key-worded as AS uses the first keywords as most relevant.
...thanks for the note but it was before like that with FT, so AS is using the same principle? Because for SS keywords order is irrelevant... they all arranged alphabetically... this is how I upload them to AS as well, never spent a bit of time to rearrange them, too much efforts... they still sell... Do you think it makes big difference in selling?
Yes the first seven words make a big difference at AS and no difference at SS.
If you don't have the important words first at AS you are missing sales and will often not be found in the search.
...yes, thanks, sounds horrible, can't even imagine how many good sells I have missed so far at FT since I never do keyword rearrangements... but seriously, is there any proof with some calculations here in the Forum or anywhere else that: 7 most relevant keywords on the top of 50 keywords ... versus ... all keywords randomly arranged ->> do indeed make more sells??? Just to have some estimate how many sells I am loosing? If there is a good number, if so, it will motivate me better to spend more efforts to do so...
The keyword order is about weighting and priority. Just for a simple example, you have a golden retriever puppy playing with a ball. You have alpha sort, who knows what, people who take the time to arrange words, will come up before you, and for that mater, your images may never be seen. While the images that show first will be Retriever, Golden, Dog, Ball, playing, puppy... what's most important? A buyer is looking for a "golden retriever puppy", instead of seeing your work on FT/AS, they will see everyone else, because yours will have (for example) animal, adorable, baby, background, ball, chew, cute, dog, face which isn't representative or useful at all. If this is a big time problem, you might just edit your best photos of each series and see? The first five are primary words, the next two are less important.

Closed My account after a very long time. theres way to Much BS from them. They rejected a Bunch of Cell Images that sell...., then I asked them about it and they said Quote..."They don't accept Cellphone Images" I then wrote back and told them That was BS Because they had accepted 200 Of Mine and A ton Of others Cell Images. After very few Stupid Emails I said Close My account and basically FU after way to Many years and NO....I would not wait 45 days for them to do it....And I said keep the Money they owe Me. ........yes they kept the money for the cheap Fools they are.
They closed it in 7 Days!!. Im so over sites that think they control what people want and need based on there Bias and short sighted attitude.
You need to read the rules before uploading to a professional stock AGENCY. They do not accept mobile phone images, that's very clear. If some have been accepted in the past that's just lucky for you, and it's because Alamy only check a small number of images. They probably won't sell though and if they do, the quality won't be as good as a well-taken and processed DSLR image (in MOST cases).
Alamy are not perfect at all, and I have several issues with them that are never addressed, and they do have an attitude of "This is how it is because we say it is" and no amount of logical thinking changes that. However, they are overall pretty decent and genuine, and having a go at them in a forum when YOU are in the wrong only makes you look silly.
As for StockIMO - That's a sister company to Alamy and is there for only smartphone images (iPhones only). Reading the guidelines properly tells you all this basic stuff. So many newbies don't bother reading them, then complain that their images are rejected or they aren't selling!
True this isn't rocket science and if someone reads the rules? https://www.alamy.com/blog/alamys-rough-guide-to-digital-cameras"Almost all compact cameras, fixed lens cameras SLR-like Bridge Cameras and all mobile phones cannot produce images that meet our guidelines" Now back to the OP, any change or did you lose the $50 sale because of that refund?

Just wanted to mention for those who aren't in the US and might not have noticed, it's Thanksgiving, vacations, people off, business closed, hunting season opened in the Northern states. Don't be surprised if there are low sales. Which leads to the holiday slumps, Christmas, Hanukah, other... unless you have seasonal images that get downloads at this time of year.

I heard those are for streaming, not usual royalty free use. Shutterstock ain't that stupid, I think.
That's right, the latest is smaller files, for streaming at these low prices. IS is doing that and P5 is also adding the same. As usual, once one place gets an idea and if it shows profit, increased earnings for them, we'll see it soon at others. While the lower resolution cheap sales are supposed to be streaming only at SS for $1.50. P5 "We recently ran a test with a portion of our video collection, offering low-resolution versions of clips in addition to HD and 4K files. The goal was to determine if this would attract new customers those creating content for the web or social media at lower budgets along with incremental revenue for our contributors. Most importantly, we wanted to confirm this wouldnt cannibalize sales of higher-priced HD content. Were excited to share that the test was a success. The low-res versions attracted new buyers who were not previously purchasing with us, while sales of HD content in the test group actually outperformed the control population. " The general claim is, these people wouldn't have paid for a higher resolution video, so we are getting something for a small, lowres file, instead of nothing. I don't know, I'm not sure. Just pointing out where these low commission sales are from, it's not HD.

Thanks for participating. In case this isn't obvious, the previous poll 2011 version didn't define exclusive or independent. I think that's a big point. I expect that exclusive will do better because of dedication, time and commissions. Also the poll on the right EX do about five times better.

Unlike yours Sue mine all came from the same country, just the usage changed on the lower price license. We never know if the first was a demo and the second was the real customer? Oddly I had one DL for a smaller size, then a day later much larger version, they never took the time to get a refund and paid for both. I liked that!
Do you sell RF there or RM? I've had two sales of the same file on the same day, but several scenarios have been suggested for that, under RM.
Yes... The double purchase was RF, all refunds with later purchase were RM. When they changed the rules, I made everything RF to match any Shutterstock Editorial sales. At least I think I did? I asked AL to do that for me.

Back on topic, and yes I have an accountant and yes I depreciate equipment and yes I deduct dedicated trips, but not all travel and not all expenses. The IRS will flag you and do an audit if the expenses are out of line or marginal legitimacy, or too close to the total income. (see original debate, where expenses match earnings) Show me you latest new best seller to get a fast download. Which translates to, please tell me what to copy or imitate. I don't mind questions, but really, trolling for my best earning images is not going to get a reply. Same as why I'm happy that Most Popular or whatever they call it now, is not best selling or best earning. I'm happy knowing myself and not being observed and copied. I don't want to offend a couple of people here, somewhat anonymous who shoot pipi (mean PeePee?) and never stop complaining of crap sales on SS. Oh I guess I just did? Sue is right, ID and Zero are also right. Nothing is all or nothing or absolute. However, gross income is not net income, and some people forget to deduct their cost of production when they figure "Earnings". In my case a nice dose of denial helps, I would have this equipment and be shooting anyway. But truthfully, not as much and I wouldn't be spending as much time slicing tomatoes, to photograph on distressed old natural wood.

Updated poll because of changes, ESP, Getty, changes at IS, commission and market changes. Also this way Exclusive is no co-mingled with regular multi-agency contributors. NOTE: Photo, video, audio everything combined.

seven year old post and we are making less now!
and people are saying exactly the same as they were then ;-)
This would be a good test if someone started the same poll again, so we could see the change from 2011 to now. OK I'll be someone?

Every refund on Alamy, for me, has been followed by a license of the same image, in a day or two, different terms. Also lower price, but still sold, and paid.

Hey, tried to sneak one past me, didn't they?
Nov. 12th 2018 231 Million images on Shutterstock.
They could at least be honest
1 million really good images
2 million not so bad images
100 million really krap images that would make your eyes bleed
and 128 million similars and stolen images
100% agreement. The numbers are for impressing investors, not for us or license buyers. Edit: Adobe has 125 million images, but that includes Editorial and everything else. Just "images" is 116 million, which I think means Illustrations, Photos and Vectors, Etc. not video, 3D, premium, Editorial.

I don't know why people dislike iStock so much, it sells.
Enviado desde mi ALP-L29 mediante Tapatalk
Like this? Gross royalty $0.05000 or Gross royalty $0.06074 or Gross royalty $0.10025 or Gross royalty $0.12600 I should like that? Or that total downloads are down 30% from last year? But I can see why exclusives would like iStock. They get rewarded for being loyal and they should.
