It makes me question "What's the catch?" I wonder if they are making sales from buyers? Has anyone gotten a payout from them yet or is it just numbers?

I suppose it's a quick way to fill up their servers with images !?

Only just joined myself, so no idea if it's all kosher or not !?  :)

Now let me understand this.....you (the photographer) gets paid to upload their own photos or is that payment only for photographers you refer? I'm confused

That's correct !  You get paid to upload :)  Good heh !?   :D

Use this link and get uploading !  After you've been accepted, of course  :)

123 now back, but have lost BS !?   :-\

Does clicking the '123' button take u to their site ok ?  in other words r u set up correctly ?

well it says this thing "no username match found for 123RF in firefox manager...blablabla". but i can't make it work, the username and password are stored in the password manager. I even tried to write it into the firefox config file by hand...lol. didn't work

Can u log into 123 at all with FF ??  if so do that and then log out, then log in again but do NOT use auto complete !  type username and password yourself.  This should get FF to ask if u wish it to save login.  Then PicNiche should work :)  If I'm repeating what you've already done, sorry  :-[

Even those without an IS account are being included in the count !!   :o

@ap - sure, send me a pm.  If I can see some the problems I can fix the errors (if there are any)

Wow !  that's made a difference, only 450 on iS now !  I was number 461 when I joined a few weeks ago  :)

Deader'n a doornail

+1

i also just had my first 10 rejected out of 10, at any site, for the first time. ouch!
i guess they're realizing too late that limiting uploads might increase dl.

I had 5 of 5 rejected !  worst ever, but also my first sale in ages !  :)

Shutterstock.com / Re: Fee Photo of the Week
« on: January 07, 2010, 11:10 »
Congrats.

Although I still don't think that we should be giving our work away for free.

yep, get it while it's hot!

yeah, I was unsure of what to do when i was asked if i was interested but a few things made me think it was OK.

Free is a very attractive search term... so the micro sites really want to offer something 'free' to be able to use it.  Most sites have a whole free collection but Shutterstock just has the free image of the week - something that I feel is a very different offering a whole collection.

I could pick the image they used.

The downloads that come from the 'free week' are counted towards the total downloads for the image - so in the future it will sit higher in the rankings in the 'best match' search.  It is only free this week.  Next week it will be back to normal.

I also heard of other photographers getting a larger number of downloads on the week they had a free image.  With the New Years just over it is hard to know how my downloads would look without the free image, but after this week i will try and figure something out to see if I saw an increase in downloads.

Fair enough !  Sounds good to me :)  FREE advertising, to boot ;)  can't be bad  :D

Just google 'Epson Stylus Pro 4800' and see for yourself !!  ;)  that's over 1000 !!  and pretty typical :)

Maybe a 2400 would suit better ??  ;)

yeah lol...that is what i actually did before being kind of shocked ;-). my question would be if i can get away with a few hundred dollars also or if it has to be this kind of price range.
i am seeing very often those below 100$ inkjet printers in the store and was thinking maybe photo quality can be achieved with a few hundred dollars?
anyway it is just a question and it really seems that printing with a service is cheaper if you don't print all the time or have specialty needs.

It really depends on what u want to do with the prints Simone !?  if it's just for u to look at, but not archive, then you'll get away with a cheap Epson !  I use a R300 and it's fine (very cheap) but if u want to sell them, then you'll need something much better :)

So what is approx. the minimum/average/quality sum one has to spend for a printer with professional quality? (sorry for the very stupid question, this is very new to me).

Thanks

Even more interesting that the ONLY one, of the top 6,  green is Fotolia !!

How strange is that !  with all that's going on   ???

They're going to deduct 30 per cent of all my American sales, right?
Well then, what's the point in filling that form in the first place?

So they don't deduct 30% of ALL your sales !!  I think that's why !   :-\

ok, i adjusted the istock gauge so to a level of sales+images=26000 for full throttle which is basically all the diamond photographers...... which shows how bad I am doing on istock  :-[

istock diamond list

Any chance u could make the scales logarithmic ??  (I assume they're linear !?)  This would make it easier to compare with lesser mortals (as most of us are).  People with 10, 100 or 1,000 wouldn't be quite so cramped at the bottom end !!  The big earners don't need the extra encouragement ;-)

« on: December 31, 2009, 07:50 »

if i had 100 images as at 31 dec 2008, and 350 images at 31 dec 2009.
but 200 images actually were only uploaded in October.
really, only 150 images were there most of the year to earn $xxx for me,
not 350.

I get a good estimate by calculating my RPI for each month. And then adding them up in the end of the year. So each month has its amount of images.

That sounds like the most accurate way to me, as each months earnings is based upon the total number of images online at that time :)

General - Top Sites / Re: rpi year 2009
« on: December 31, 2009, 07:47 »
That would give :  $2.4 for perry and $2 for kngkyle.  :)

No. If I have about $16,000 in earnings with between 1100 (jan 2009) and 1600 images (dec 2009) my RPI couldn't be $2.4. It's much closer to my calculation ($12.12)

My calculation is only an estimate, but it's quite accurate.

I have relatively high acceptance ratios (~90%) so I have very similar porfolios across the 5 sites I listed, that's why the adding up of the RPI's makes sense. If I wanted a more exact number I could deduct about 10% from the sales to make up for rejected images.

I also have done my calculations on a monthly base. I have statistics how much I earned on each site at each month, and also how many images I had in the end of the month.

Agreed !  If you have the same port at each agency, then yes u should add them.  I was assuming a different set of images at each agency to suit their style :)
