Hi guys! just would like to point out a little thing: i am the developer of stockuploader, i've seen the post steve made up here, and i would like to point out that in many posts about Stockuploader (and even on my homepage) i have talked to people about GOSTOCK. we are not trying to take people away from gostock in any way. its just a open sharing of informations and available tools. i tried it myself and gave the developers a feedback, and so did they with stockuploader. Gostock is a great tool, in some ways similar and in some ways different from Stockuploader. its just a matter of personal taste! not that anybody said somethign bad, i just wanted to be sure that everybody knows that we are not being unfair with gostock. Ciao Igor

Hi guys! i keep coding for V2.0 and here is a list of the features that will be included in V2.0
A big part is already coded and a beta version is available in the forums for those who donated at least 5$. Speaking of donaions, thanks for all those who donated. we reached 91$ and need 58 more to reach our goal. without the goal the new version of stockuploader cannot be releaased because we need to buy the license of a FTP library i am using to code it.
Another news is that stockuploader now has a Newsletter system. if you subscribe you will be informed about new versions beeing released and opportunities running like the possibility to put your banner in the program or things like that!
so here is the list of improvements coming:
Parallel uplaods: lets you have 8 upload slots, increasing the upload speed! it will load in parallel to 8 different sites so if a site is slow it will automatically use the remaining speed for other sites.
SFTP support: makes the program work with veer and sites that use SFTP.
speed limitation: there will be the possibility to set a speed limit for each slot. so if the speed limit is 80, the maximum overall upload speed can me 8 x 80. it would be better to define a overall speed but it is not possible for the time beeing.
situation log: when you hit the upload button the program will make a "table log" in the agencies file. this log contains a copy of your main table, and will be updated after each upload. at the end of the upload this table is deleted again. if your program crashes when you restart it it will detect the table that has not been deleted due to the crash and restore it with all the proper checks set so you can recover your uplaods.
hystory log: when you upload a file to an agency the program will save it in the agencies file and remember it. this way if in future you join a new agency and want to upload to those sites it will know what files have already been uploaded to older agencies and not set the checks to those agencies.
keywording tool: you will be able to change name, descritpion and keywords on jpgs. the keywords can also be reordered by priority. MAYBE there will be also a batch keywording tool that allows to apply the same keywords to multiple images. but for now i am not sure about this.
Please give a feedback and let me know what you think of this! thank you!
Igor

Done!
The update sounds great, although would it be possible to throttle the upload as well? My husband gets annoyed when I completely kill our internet by flooding it when uploading.
I don't know how complicated that is to implement, so don't worry too much about it if it's too much for now, I can work around it (I already do when uploading to our smugmug account) but it'd be nice to have.
just got confirmation that it can be done with the new library! i can define a speed limit for each upload slot. given that we have 8 slots, if you upload in parallel mode then if you want to upload at a max of 400 kbps you can set a limit of 50 for each slot..

thank you very much!
i dont know if it can be done but i will for sure look into it! if it cant, then there still is a solution! a program called netlimiter.
with that program you can limit every program you like. the free version does only show the speeds, the pro allows you to limit each program. you can use it for free for a month or something like that!
but i look into it and let you know!
thanks again!

in about a month.. as soon as i finish coding it... and it depends also from the donations because to finish coding it i need the chilkat license. so well see.. at the other hand if you donate 5$ you have access to the betas i will start releasing anyday soon, and test the new features before the Others do..

Hey steve! thank you for this post and thank you for your generous donation! and all your help i post here a copy of the post i have on stockuploader forum here: http://www.stockuploader.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=825&p=1026#p1026 Hi guys!
to make this software a lot more stable and better i'd need to buy a commercial library.. this library has a cost of 149$. and given that Stockuploader is freeware i cant afford to buy it on my own.
improvements would be: - a better reacting program - S-FTP support (Veer) - Parallel uploads - precise upload speed indication - progress report for each upload slot - less coding wich translates in fewer bugs, faster debugging, and more time to dedicate to new features.
please if you wish to help think about donating a few $. if every user of stockuploader donates 1$ we have the license in 2 days!
as a "thank you" there is an additional benefit for donors based on how much they donate:
5$ and above: access to a hidden part of the forum with beta versions where we test new features before we release them 15$ and above: no expire date on referral links 25$ and above: custom banner in the program for 6 months. (can be the banner of your site, or your referral link or whatever...) if you pay 50$ you can put two banners for 6 months, but not one for one year.

for V2.0 i plan to add title, description, keywords and keyword priority.
not sure about the batch editing yet because i already have a lot on the todo list for now. but if i have some extra time i add it too. (there is a lot more being coded for version 2.0! )
if it wont be in v2.0 then it will for sure be in v2.1!

I am also having unlimited bandwith and storage, but you know, thats all theory... I must see if i can create ftp accounts for users to upload.. If i can then i will probably program it and give access to only a few people and see how it works out..

this sounds really great.. do you think it would be a good idea to implement this in stockuploader? i mean, somebody could choose between normal uploading, or uploading once to my ftp server and then having the server upload everything.. what worries me is the server load if more people start using it.. i would have to do it over "slots".. so that only 1 or 2 users can use this function at the same time.. or the ISP is going to kill me..

^^ Not for me. I am living in the boondocks of the Yukon Territory just east of Alaska. I pay close to $100 per month for my internet connection and still get just 0.5 Mbs of upload speed. On top of that my monthly bandwidth is capped as well (at a more generous 60GB, thought). If I upload via ftp to all micro site from my computer uploading takes forever (and blocks my computer virtually for other internet uses as it slows everthing else down to snail speed).
Does anyone know if (and how) it is possible to set up ftp from a hosting service such as blue host? It would be an elegant solution if could just upload my images to my Symbiostock site once and distribute to the micro sites from there...
there is a solution but its not the cheapest one.. you could get a dedicated server (the cheapest you find.. usually they come around 200$/year if they are really cheap) then you upload via ftp your images to that server... then via remote desktop you use a ftp program like stockuploader or go-stock to upload to all the agencies.
a dedicated server has an incredible speed. so you could upload all images only once and then it would work on its own and upload all the images to all the sites in a matter of seconds.. but you'd have to pay for a yearly dedicated server..
i think it depends a lot on how many pictures you upload. if its 20 every day then it might be worth.. if it is 1 a day then probably not..
I have a shared hosting account with Blue Host, which cost me around $5 per month, for my Symbiostock site. My next batch of images will be ready to submit in a couple days. I'll try the script solution fotorob suggested. I'll report back here how it went.
ok! waiting for your result.. curious to see if it works and how well it works...
