Microstock News / Re: Zoonar is launching Zoonar.Express
« on: September 08, 2020, 13:33 »
I took the time and Looked at the work. which I seldom do Nowdays. Im sorry and don't mean to offend anyone But being Honest......I see a whole bunch Of Low interest/Done to death so /so Boring Uninteresting work from folks who  Just take Pictures, Not make Photographs. And Most of all "stock" Pictures. My friends Stock has a certain Look and feel. It doesn't have to be art BUT.....It is a art unto itself If done correctly.........................

It really is.

So why do they then sell on Adobe and Deposit (and Shutterstock formerly), were used on stamps, bookcovers and authority flyers? Dont seem to be that useless with other agencies....

I have a portfolio of 1200 pics on zoonar for about 14 months now and havent sold a single pic yet.
Not worth the effort.

Please check:

Do you have set Model and Property Release Information? (we are not sell Photos with an "unknown" status). You can do that at "Manage images" as a batch process
Do you have activate our Distribution Channels? You can do that at "Distributor Management" (we use APIS/Picturemaxx with DPA and DDP for the german Publishing Houses)

All Release Informations are set.
I activated 7 partners but ddp images is the only agency that reviewed my pics and accepted them. DPA picture alliance reviewed a few, accepted a few and denied several.
All the other agencies like picturemaxx, fotofinder, getty images, universal images group, imagebroker all never reviewed my pics and keep them on the waiting list for 14 months now.
I have pictures with 68 views but not a single sale. The same pics do well with other agencies like Adobe and Alamy.
My user name is TeleMakro - maybe you can find out whats wrong with my portfolio......

Adobe Stock / Re: No sales in August

I had 15 sales on AS so far this month.
Before corona times it was about twice as much......

This was the top performer for practically every non exclusive contributor out there no?

For me SS never was the top agency - Adobe always performed better for me.
The reason might be Im quite new, started only two years ago so I never had a high lifetime tier on SS (was only tier 2).

So from my perspective it might have even been fair and good that others would loose their lifetime tiers since I didnt benefit from those myself.
But what really pissed me off was introducing the 10 cent sub sales in june. Thats a no go.

Adobe was quite low for me during the last weeks but it now seems to start again.
But Im quite afraid other agencies will follow SS with ricicolous cheap sub sales soon.

Now it hit me - not one single sale on Adobe for the last two weeks.
Never ever had that before, not even in the beginning when I startetd uploading to AS.

What te heck is going on.

57
Was that AGE photostock agency? They uploaded pictures of mine into a wrong account and credited them to the other photographer.....

You could try "copytrack" to sue the user of the picture. I never did that but they say its free for the photographer, they keep their share if they are successful.

Sale seems to be frozen for now at AS. No sale since 25 June 2020 so far. July is absolutely dry so far. Not sure, if it is general trend now or just I am experiencing it.

Very slow for me as well. I have sales, but all just cheap sub sales. My RPD on AS was always around 1 $ and dropped significantly to somewhere around 0.40 $ lately.

General - Stock Video / Re: Need advice in Buying Camera....
« on: July 13, 2020, 13:09 »
A quite well known austrian photographer always says- its in your head, not in the camera.

I defenately see a difference between my gorgeous Sony fullframe compared to my older Sony APSC.

But its also a matter of money.
Even more important are the lenses - some are more expensive than the body itself.

Im with Sony and the quality is great. But the price is high. Often more expensive than Canon or Nikon or Fuji. And I dont know if the qualiy is really better than those mentioned.

Maybe get a good 2nd hand camera? There are dudes out there (sure not stock photograpehrs - they cant afford it) who always buy the latest model camera and sell their old camera.

This is actually a way to keep you from DELETING your images.

While your portfolio is disabled, you can't access your own images to delete them.  They still show up in Shutterstock's database, so Google sees them, and directs searchers to Shutterstock, using your image.  They still count toward Shuttertock's count of images.

So, rather than disable, delete.

But its good if buyers see those pics but cant actually buy them (because disabled).

I prefer disabled for that reason - pics might count on the total numbers, but it hurts more to see the image you want and not be able to buy it  ;D

Im surprised this is allowed and not copyrighted to scan old paintings and sketches?
Every picture I take with just a small sculpture or grafitti somewhere in the background is rejected for not having a release (even editorial - just had a pic rejected with a wooden sculpture sawn from a dead tree trunk just at the side of a view over a valley and it was rejected three minutes ago as having no release).

And this kind of sketches and paintings needs no relaese??
Im astonished.

 >:(

Would have been nice to turn ports on and off....
Buyers would put pics in their lightbox and the next day theyre gone......

I would only need 5 more $ to reach payout and then leave forever. But my port is off.

Do you get the same message when turning ports on? 30 days no return to off?

Shutterstock.com / Re: Average EPD so far for June
« on: July 09, 2020, 04:44 »
I don't want to be accused of trolling or anything like that, but as an istock contributor who sees a lot of hate directed at IS, and I'd be the last to claim they're fault free, I'm surprised at how much higher my RPD is compared to the ones reported here.

My RPD on IS is (and has always been) higher than RPD on SS.
And that was BEFORE the cut on SS.
The last sales I had on SS were all 0.10 cent, nothing else. So my RPD probably would have dropped to 0.10 cent since june 1st, hadnt I disabled my portfolio.
On IS its always around 0,55 cent.

Only single sales on demand sounds good to me and I would give it a try (if all great content would only be on demand and not in sub packs we could get stock back to a decent pricing).

But looking at their website I only find this

"Buy quality stock images and vectors with a one time credit pack purchase or by monthly subscription."

Still subs.

Where is that on demand stuff theyre talking about?

66
I dont understand those people who seem never to be reading anything on what platform soever- otherwise they would have read about the new price structure at SS and the boycott going on for a full month now.

And then they pop in like innocent children who cant read or inform themselves about what is going on completely astonished about "what is going on" and crying.

I thought every grown up is somehow informed about crucial things going on in this world.
But it seems some peeps are living on the moon with no interest in whtas going on around them.

67
If you keep selling on SS you ask for beeing ripped.
Stop crying and take action!

Just wanted to drop in and say how much I appreciate this vector image, which got approved. I especially love keywords like 0.10, 0.1c, fuck you, greed and insulting, lol...   :D

My best sale until now was a 197 $ sale on alamy two months ago.
Dont know what its used for.

Recently discovered pics of mine on a stamp and a bookcover - but only got peanuts for those.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Figuring out a way forwards
« on: June 07, 2020, 09:28 »
I started at iStock.  When that went bad a bunch of years ago I moved my pix to Shutterstock.  Now this went bad so I'm looking for another place to drop my stock pictures.  I moved my 6 videos(lol) to Pond5.

I'm thinking of moving my images to either Adobe stock or Alamy.
Anyone can tell me the difference between them?

Alamy is a platform, not an agency like SS or AS.
Once you got accepted you will hardly ever have any rejections - they accept everything.
They were just sold a few months ago to a british media group and my sales went up a little bit.
They pay 40 % share, went down from 50 % last year.
You wont have many sales on alamy (it took months for me before I had the first sale), but if you get a sale they can be hugh like 150 Euro or even more. ( I sold a pic for 200 Euro two months ago).
They dont have cheap abonnement sales. Only fair priced sales.
I like them. Theyre easy with no rejections and sales are fair priced.
They accept editorial but never check if your pics need a release. Their policy says the client needs to check himself if a release is necessary or not.

Adobe is like SS and the rest a stock agency with abonnement clients. But they pay better than SS. I think the minimum is 33 cent, but I often get on demand sales for much more. My RPD on AS ist 1.05 Dollar.
As a bonus you get a free PS/LR abonnement for one year if you sell more than 150 pics a year. Thats a nice gesture of Adobe I think.
Adobe accepts only some editorial stuff (I think its product editorial) and only if you are above a lifetime threshold (I think its 1000 sold pics).

Great thoughts.

I already applied to stocksy earlier this year but was rejected :(

I also think about going exclusive with Pond5 and already got advice from Pond5 support on how to do that (open a new account under exclusive rights and then move footage from the old account to the exclusive account).

I had quite a few good sales with Alamy over the last months - so thats an option for me as well.

73
A few agencies who are committed to fair trade, like pond5 or alamy, don't sell sh*, so it doesn't matter that they give you 40 to 60% of nothing. SS remained the only big one that actually sells and now it's gone too.

Which is not true.
I earned three times as much money on alamy than I did on SS.
Thats why I left SS now.
Im far better off with alamy and Pond5. Im actually moving my pictures to Pond5 now, only did footage there until now.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Database total :did you notice ?
« on: June 05, 2020, 12:10 »
Just noticed this on dreamstime:  "Due to the massive uploads, our pending area has been limited to 1000 submissions per user daily. Please continue the upload process after 24 hours have passed since your first submission."

Are contributors migrating from SS to DT?

Im already a DT contributor, but Im moving my SS portfolio to Pond5. Wondering if they too see an increase at the moment....

75
If you stay on SS with your photos you will lose money, if you close your account you will lose money.

Im not sure about that, but if my picture is unique enough buyers might look for them at other agencies (like Adobe or Alamy) and buy them there- for a higher price and more profit for me.
As long as I sell the same pics for 10 cent on SS clever buyers will always choose the cheap option at SS.
If that option does not exist any longer they might (!- I dont know if they will or prefer buying peanust for peanuts at SS) pay more at a different agency.

I had quite a few very good sales at Alamy which shows some buyers do prefer quality.
