Sales are absolutely appalling today.
I don't how they've managed to drive so many full time exclusive artists into the ground, but they're intent on screwing us it seems.

Good luck to you.

My iStock sales have completely crashed today. Used to be I sold 150 images a day - today I've sold barely 10.
I would ask what was going on over there in the forums but you just get a slap for daring to complain.
You'd have to be crazy to go exclusive there now.

This just in on the DT forums -
We have updated the referral rewarding system and all the referral shares will be supported by the agency as of today, July 17th. The agency did cover most of the referral shares until now but shares for referred purchases for instance were split between the agency and the contributor. Not anymore, we're now covering for all. The new structure is already live so you may start noticing different royalties for some of your sales.
Result! Amazing what can be achieved by making a fuss and bringing dodgy dealing into the light. Well done Lee Torrens.

I was being facetious of course. I was amazed at how poor the images were in the Getty portfolio of that guy that did the Olympic pictures the other day. I thought Getty was supposed to be an edited collection?

Seems to sell on Alamy judging by some of the diabolically bad photography they accept on there.

Funny how best match shifts never, ever go in my favour.
You'd think that with a big body of work covering the last seven years it wouldn't matter whether the best match favours older files but it doesn't seem to work that way.
Brings the time when I have to stop doing iStock full time depressingly closer.

My iStock sales have crashed catastrophically in the last few days, down to a third of usual levels.
Is anyone else experiencing this kind of dramatic downfall or is it just me?
I seem to be only occassionally selling older images, even right back to 2005, at the moment. What a waste of time the last 4000 uploads were for me if this continues.

Not sure I want to pay to be told something I already know.

If you didn't laugh you'd cry.
Ah well, it was fun while it lasted. I can't understand anyone turning exclusive anywhere any more - it'd be madness unless the agencies aggressively promote exclusive content more.
How do you know how many images I've added in the past year? I've never been able to work that out.
The fastest way I know is to go to deepmeta and sort by age and highlight (click the newest, scroll down to one year ago and shift click that one) then right click and it will tell you how many images selected.
Good tip, thanks.

Those doing well are far less likely to report their stats.
Believe me, I would happily report an increase in sales. Nothing would please me more than to report iStock is finally giving exclusives the support they need to survive. Unfortunately my sales figures show otherwise: Compared to June 2011: $ -20.5% DL -45% Compared to June 2010: $ -23.3% DL - 65%

Agreed, he knows the paths he could have taken.
Great marketing
Hmmm. "I made a mistake so I made my minions work overnight". Some buyers won't like that.
I'm pretty sure it was optional and it looks like it was a 'good time'
I am still amazed by the fact that 24 retouchers took up the challenge and worked for 24h+ to help make the promise come true, and I am grateful to each and every one of them. It is amazing working with people who take so much pride in their job and who are willing to go that extra mile it sometimes takes to get to the finish line. http://arcurs.com/2012/06/retouching-more-than-2000-files-in-24-hours/
Staring at Photoshop for 24 hours is never going to be a 'good time' and 'asking' employees to work for that length of time is why most civilised countries have labour laws. This is digital sweatshopping for the 21st century. We complain all the time about how badly corporations treat us, but seem to offer a free pass when one of our own starts to act in a similar way. Not good.

Hmm, not sure pressuring people work to 24h would go down too well in Denmark. But no doubt all the trainees are handsomely compensated. And pleased to receive a 24h badge.

Why has my post been edited? And edited silently. Very sneaky and questionable behaviour if you ask me.

I'm not sure H&F were ever interested in the stock images business. They just want to make money and they seem to be quite good at doing that. It's a disaster for us but we have different ambitions to a business that's only interested in generating money.
That's exactly right I'm afraid. I'm sure people at Getty are just as passionate about photography as the people at iStock, but if your business has been take over by * fat cats you've got no chance to improve and grow. It must be as frustrating for the staff at iStock and Getty as it is with us - they just don't have a public forum to vent in.

Hi folks, just to share with who is following my post, finally I made a decision (30 days ago) and quit the iStock exclusivity.
A bold move - I admire your bravery. I'm so reliant on istock for my income now I don't think I'll ever be able to do it, but will follow your progress with much interest. Keep us informed on how it goes!

If there's any way to kill a good model's career, this publicity is it.
What professional designer is going to want an image with this guy in it now?
I exaggerate, but not much...
