For those of you thinking about purchasing PSP X2, there is an online coupon code for 40% off available through the end of September. Just go to www.corel.com and enter UG40OFFSEP into the coupon code. The upgrade will cost between $36 (download) and $43 (boxed and shipped) depending on whether you want a boxed product shipped to you or not. You can also order to the full product for a reduced price as well. FYI: I just ordered the upgrade as a download. The download file is 328 MB! Good thing I have a fast Internet connection.

Returning a picture? It couldn't be for technical quality reasons because IS is really picky. So what valid reason would a buyer have to "return" an image at IS?
As I stated before, I have had a total of two returns so far. In the first case, the buyer(s) supposedly bought the image twice. So in this case, they supposedly made a mistake. IS said that they might be a large agency with multiple designers and that two designers might have purchased the images, but I think that IS support was just guessing. The two purchases were XLarges, so it kinda stunk to lose such a good sale. In the second case, the image was an XSmall size, but I have no idea why they returned it. I am positive that it wasn't for technical quality since the image currently has an orange flame with over 200 sales.

...the other day I got an email telling me that a refund had been issued because the customer had filled out a "certificate of destruction". I wasn't sure what that meant...
When I spoke to IS customer support, they said that when a customer wants to "return" an image, they need to fill out a "certificate of destruction" (or whatever they call it) in order to "prove" that they have destroyed the image.

I'm surprised to see that more of you haven't run into this. I have had two refunds on images. The first time I had found a discrepancy in payments and called IS. They then told me that the customer "returned" an image and the sale was "refunded". I was quite annoyed that they didn't bother to inform me of the situation. The second time IS informed me of the situation, but I still feel that it is pretty chintzy. I would have thought that those of you with lots of sales would have run into this a little more often than me. I guess I'm just lucky like that

The words in the title used to show up as keywords that could not be edited (via the normal keyword system). This was also true when they changed over to the new DA system. A lot of people complained about having Indiana as a DA'd keyword when they didn't enter that keyword in. It turned out that any title that had the word "IN" was DA'ed to Indiana (since it is the abbreviation for Indiana state). There were a lot of other examples like this, but that is the one that comes to mind.
There was talk of removing the title from the keywords, but I'm not sure where that stands.

I have also used Paint Shop Pro for years and years and just recently purchased PhotoShop. I never had stability problems with PSP. The major problem that I had was that the newest version (version X) was dirt slow. When I installed PS, I couldn't believe how much faster it was.
I am also struggling through the learning curve for PS, but find it very powerful. There are still a few things that PSP does that I can't seem to be able to do with PS, so I will probably upgrade as well.

I know that most of you use Adobe Photoshop, but for those of you that can't afford it or just find it too difficult to work with, there is a new version of Corel Paint Shop Pro. Two of the new features that caught my eye are: - Watermarks - HDR (high dynamic range) You can check it out here: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1184951547051

I have found that IS does not like overly edited images. They basically want something right out of the camera, with very little editing. For example, this image has been accepted at every agency but IS: Your image does not look overly edited to me, but it is hard to tell at the image size that you have posted. My guess would be the out-of-focus background. It looks like it might contain artifacts. But once again, it is very hard to tell without the original size. If you want to send me the two originals (via sitemail), I would be happy to give you my opinion. (And I promise that I will not use them for other purposes and delete them when I am done with my analysis.)

I love photographic challenges. We used to have two bi-monthly (every 2 months) challenges at my last job. As a matter of fact, many of my first stock images were from the challenges. One challenge was more generic (like the color red) and another was more specific (like this one). It is one of the main things that has helped me to grow as a photographer. I highly recommend it to everyone.
leaf:
One thing that I would recommend is nailing down the rules, because there are ALWAYS questions. For example:
- Are other eggs, besides chicken eggs, allowed?
- Does the image have to be a photo? Or are illustrations, flash clips, and movie clips allowed?
- What about chocolate covered eggs?

What does everyone consider "spamming" anyway?
To me, the word "spam" seems to be a little overused.
I think that spamming is adding an obviously blatant keyword, such as the keyword "sex" to a photo of a carrot, or the word "business" to a photo of a landscape.
And it seems that the definition of "spam" has changed over the last year or so.
Stock agencies used to recommend adding "additional" keywords to the image that would describe the emotion or where the image was taken. Now some of them just want you to add the keywords for what is seen in the image.
What do you think?

The IS default sort order was Best Match for a long time.
I just noticed that the default sort order is now Downloads. Does anyone know when this changed?

See DPreview. The new G9 thing has a 12mp CMOS sensor, so does the new A640 (or something).
The G9 has a CCD sensor, not a CMOS sensor. I am looking at getting this camera, but will wait for the reviews and tests. The A640 came out last year at this time. The other P&S Canon cameras that were released a few days ago (the SX100 IS, SD950 IS, SD870 IS, A720 IS, and A650 IS) are also all CCD sensors (unless I am missing something - which is entirely possible). I have been searching for a good P&S that has a CMOS sensor, but can't seem to find one (that isn't ridiculously priced), but doubt that I will find anything anytime soon. If you find anything, please let me know. On the plus side, Canon has invested $450 million in a CMOS plant that will produce chips for both DSLRs and P&S cameras, but that is at least a few years away.

Two of the new pocket cameras have CMOS 12mp sensors.
Where did you see this? Anyone see this?

This is from the Nikon press release:
"At 9 fps, the D3 is the worlds fastest full format D-SLR, with an even faster 11 fps consecutive shooting possible in DX crop mode."
There is a note at the bottom of the press release that says:
"As of August 2007."

Why so low in megapixel, the D300 is almost the same excepted for the full frame, the new Canon is like 22 mega...
They wanted to make it fast. It is currently the word's fastest camera (@ 9 fps) according to their announcement. Increasing the size of the image would have slowed it down.
