Adobe Stock / Where Are Adobe Stock Sales Posted?
« on: June 18, 2015, 11:05 »
Does anyone know where they will be posting sales information on sales from Adobe Stock?

Will it be on Fotolia?

Or will they post sales information on the Adobe Stock website (which means that we will have to register on Adobe Stock to get that information)?

In regards to SEO, what is the best way to handle similar images?

Would it be best if they all contained the same title, description, keywords, etc?

Or would it be best if they had a slightly different title, description, keywords, etc?

Symbiostock - Development Area / Issue on Discount Pricing
« on: July 22, 2013, 09:03 »
I have noticed that if a customer adds an image that has a price discount to their cart, that the discount will stay even if the discount is removed from the image.

For example, try adding a discount of 50% to an image, then login as a test customer, add the image to the customer's cart, go back to being an admin and remove the discount, and then go back to the test customer and you will notice that the image in the cart still has the discount.

I would think that this is not the way that it should work, since most discounts would only be offered for a specific timeframe.  For example, I was thinking about doing something like a Labor Day sale.  But if a customer adds a discounted image to their cart, it will stay on discount indefinitely (which is not what I intended).

I finally started to test my website (as if I were a customer) and noticed that logging in as a customer is not always consistent.

Sometimes the customer is brought to the WordPress Admin Profile page (which would probably be very confusing for the customer).

Does anyone know what causes this?  And how to fix it?

As the title asks, can categories be uploaded from the IPTC data in an image file upon upload?

I have tried to enter a category that already exists (Travel) in the Category field and the Supplemental Categories field of an image and uploaded it.  The keywords are uploaded fine, but no categories are uploaded.

I went to look at the keywords that I have in my installation and found a bunch of keywords (such as Anger, Brat, Crying, Furious, Parasitic, etc) that I don't believe came from any of my images.  All of the keywords are marked as having 0 images attached to them.  I only have a handful of images uploaded to my website at this time and none of them are of people, so I was wondering how they got there.

Are these leftover from the standard installation?

Would someone please check to see if they have these keywords.

You can find some of the keywords here:

Anger: <yourwebsite.com>/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=image-tags&post_type=image&s=anger

Brat: <yourwebsite.com>/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=image-tags&post_type=image&s=brat

Crying: <yourwebsite.com>/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=image-tags&post_type=image&s=crying

Furious: <yourwebsite.com>/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=image-tags&post_type=image&s=furious

Parasitic: <yourwebsite.com>/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=image-tags&post_type=image&s=parasitic

Symbiostock - General / Does Symbiostock track sales?
« on: July 16, 2013, 14:19 »
Does Symbiostock track sales?  For example, when a sale is made on an image is there a counter in the database that is increased for that image?

I searched the forums but didn't find anything.

I have had success in copying a file from the main Symbiostock Theme (webroot/wp-content/themes/symbiostock) to the Symbiostock-child Theme (webroot/wp-content/themes/symbiostock-child) and then modifying the file.

But now I am trying to customize files that are below the main theme directory (such as webroot/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc) and I am not having success.

For example, I am trying to customize the file "rf-custom-post-functions.php" in the webroot/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc folder.  I have created an "inc" directory under webroot/wp-content/themes/symbiostock-child and have copied the file there, but any changes that I make are not working.

Does anyone know if it is possible to modify a file that is below the main Symbiostock Theme directory?

And if so, how?

Is there any way to search on multiple categories?  For example, is there a way to search on the categories "Business" and "Concepts" so that you only get images that have both categories?

If not, is there any way create a page that would accomplish that?

I uploaded one image and everything worked fine.

Then I tried to upload four more images and I am now receiving the following error when I try to process the images:

Cannot find watermark at location: /home/content/23/11422623/html/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/symbiostock-watermark.png< ... Please check that you entered it correctly in your Settings Area. Default watermark used.

FYI: I have not changed anything about the watermark (yet).

Please advise...

I am interested in starting a Symbiostock site, but I can't seem to find the technical requirements to get started.  I can see that it needs WordPress, but is there any specific version of WordPress?  Also, are there other software requirements (in addition to WordPress) that are required for Symbiostock to work?  Or is WordPress the only thing that is required?

I am asking because I am looking to get a web host and want to make sure that the web host has all of the features that are needed.

Thanks ahead of time.

Dreamstime.com / Did Something Change with DT Referral Earnings?
« on: October 20, 2009, 07:43 »
Did something change with the way DT reports referral earnings (@ http://www.dreamstime.com/referral_earnings.php)?

I just went to check my DT referral earnings and noticed that the last one that shows up is from 8 days ago.  (I normally see multiple referrals a day so this is way out of the norm).

Are they now delaying referral earnings?

Or is there a bug in the reporting system?

Press Release:

Hands on preview:

I just had my first Premium Subscription sale from FT.

It was an XLarge image (12 MP) for which I received the whole sum of...

drum roll please...

Previous to the new "Premium" Subscription, I normally made $1.92 from that size sale.

What a disappointment!

I just browsed Photos.com and viewed a few images on the site.

I noticed that there isn't much information attached to the photos.  For example, the contributor's name doesn't seem to be there, so there is no way to look at other images from the same contributor.  Not only that, but there are no watermarks on the large image previews (which are blog size).  Doesn't anyone else have a problem with this?

For those of you that file taxes in the U.S.:

What IRS business code do you enter for Box B of Schedule C?

The description for business code 541920 is "photographic services" which includes photography studios, portrait, and commercial photography.

But that doesn't really describe what microstock photography is about.  Many of us don't have photography studios, and don't do portrait photography or commercial photography.

And what about those of you that do predominantly illustrations, or fractals, or CGI?

For those of you that contact Scout to have a rejected file re-inspected, how long have you waited for a response?

And would you do it again?

I have a file that was rejected for "we did not find this file suitable as stock".  I believe that the IS inspectors made a big mistake on this one.  This image has done extremely well at other stock sites and I was wondering if it is worth the effort (and wait) of using Scout.

As the title states, I received a 1099-MISC Income Federal tax form from the Megaglobal Image Syndicate today.

I had never heard of them, but figured that it had something to do with stock photography.

Anyway, long story short, it turns out that they are LuckyOliver.

It is quite surprising that they are actually sending out tax forms (since they have been out of business for quite some time).

As the subject states, I am looking for a photo and video hosting site for family photos/videos that:

1. Does not require guests to sign up

2. Allows the owner to password protect an image/video

I currently have a pBase account, which I like a lot.  I can post images of the family which can be password protected.  I can then send a link to friends & family along with the password to view the images.  I like this because it doesn't require friends & family to sign up to (another) website.  Some people don't want to sign up to websites.

The problem with the pBase account is that it doesn't host video.

Any ideas?

Adobe Stock / Fotolia Offering Video?
« on: January 16, 2009, 19:05 »
It looks like Fotolia is getting ready to offer video.

There is a link at the top of the website that goes to this page:

The Canon G10 was close, but the Panasonic LX3 beat it out:

As the question asks, which stock agency do you feel is best (from a submitters point of view)?

I am wondering what submitters (photographers, illustrators, CGI artists, etc) feel is the best agency.

You can vote anonymously and don't need to leave a response if you don't want, but if you want you can leave the reason for your vote as well.

FYI: I only included the top 7 sites, since they are the largest, and ordered the sites in the poll according to the "Microstock Poll Results" (on the right side of this page).
