Available slots for upload: 20 Sales on 1 October: 24 Sales in September: BME
it's not going bad for everyone
No, it's not. I've only been on IS for 7 months. I just looked at the stats and September was my BME. In October I have already passed my worst 2 months, of course that's not saying much. LOL My portfolio was infantile in march and april. I guess the point is, I'm experiencing growth in sales proportionate to my upload each month I'm pretty happy with IS. I came in after all the disambiguation insanity. -tom

I reallly do feel for all you folks..... but I found out what a dead end it was with FT about a year ago. Every time I racked up sales.... they disappeared in purchases allegedly by me. I never bought a thing. I'm not a buyer, just a seller. This happened a couple times. Big hassle getting it fixed.... couldn't get any feedback from tech.... I conversed with Chad , I guess in NYC, talked to his assistant, emailed tech support on more than one occassion..... never got an explanation as to how it was happening. In the end I felt like they figured me to be a scammer and a pain in the backside. I finally yanked all my pix (but one) in January. To be fair, all those credits were eventually restored to my account... but I'm lightyears from a payout figure and the only pic I have there only sells a couple times a month.... Frankly I fear uploading there again as it may start all over.
But now, after reading here the last month or so..... seems like pretty much a waste time for a newbie at FT. I doubt I'll ever upload there again. -tom

I already have three other websites covering my various interests but now Id like one for photography. Does anyone have any suggestions for a domain name that isnt already taken? I assume you register your domain with GoDaddy and not with the hoster, or you will find yourself a hostage by your hoster if you want to change hosting. On GoDaddy it's easy to look up what's still free.
Nowadays you have to work backwards. Think of a domain/brand name first, check whether the domain is still free, then register it - and afterwards you can work from that name on... Don't forget to register the same name on Yahoo, GMail, Blogspot, etc... After all that, you can Trademark the name officially, and you're set.
Amen!! I went with GoDaddy as well. Finding a name? Good luck. Try it yourself. Just pick two words that have nothing to do with each other and google it. Odds are, it's a name already.. LOL LOL. I literally spent months trying to come up with something, I wrote down hundreds (no exaggeration) of names, ones I would have bet the farm no one had. Good thing I didn't bet! I didn't want family name, didn't want something common... wanted something different. I also got this bug in my head that I wanted a number in it? why? ........no clue. I thought I wanted something 'spacey' as in outerspace.... finally, I decided if I found the name of the newest star discovered/named in the universe, how many could possibly have that already? The newest star named at the time was Pegasus 35. I wanted a number, so I picked 8, the number in my family. And since we were going to be doing illustration and graphics besides photos, we went with 'imagery'. I did the latin plural of 'us' which is 'i' and put together "Pegasi 8 Imagery" . It wasn't taken, I went to GoDaddy, bought it and five domains close to it in net, com and biz. Also, if you are going to use it for a business, you might want to make sure the name isn't already registered as a business in your state or local. We went to the state and fed, got registered, got our federal ID number.... Now, we are doing business as Pegasi 8 Imagery, LLC. STILL don't have the website completed, in fact still in the embryo stage. It's a lot of work. For that we went with Better Photo.com. But... the money is coming in. I'm already published in magazines, books, internet.... so is my wife. We started 'pro' in micros a little over a year ago, now, microstock is the least of our income in photography. We are at this time turning down work. SOooooo Peat Bog, GO FOR IT! It's tough in the beginning, but it's worth it! A year and a half ago, if someone told me I'd be doing what I am doing now... I would have laughed and called them fools. Impossible! Nope, it isn't. I'm sure you can find many other similar stories from the gang here! -tom

Adelaide the idea is to have one image each week - you can't change yours just because you got a sale! That's too greedy! Hatman, That was not my intention. I only think it's useless to have so many comments in just one photo. I'm afraid StockXpert and LO might punish us for that. If we dillute the comments among many images, then I don't see a problem.
Regards, Adelaide
Maria, I agree..... The last thing we want to do is tick off either one of them. If we change up pix, and try to put some kind of technical observation (a good one, of course) in the comment, then we would be in line with what , especially LO is looking for in comments. -tom

My policy now is choose another image when I see the one posted here has already been commented that day. I don't think that having too many comments in just one image is a good idea.
Regards, Adelaide
I agree, great idea!!! Another upside of that is we also are getting more of our portfolios out there!! -tom

Kngkyle,
I think it isn't quite a good approach to exagerate and have many people commenting the same image. I suggest that, once an image has already been commented, if we want to help each other we should comment another by the same member. If I were LO staff, I would consider such "massive" commenting a misuse.
Regards, Adelaide
I agree. I've been going into each ones portfolio and actually looking for images I really do enjoy ( and it isn't easy narrowing it down, some great work you folks have). As someone said earlier, I too am being humbled! This way, I can honestly say I am commenting because I feel a personal need to comment for reasons why I enjoy the image, which is what LO wants to be done anyway! and thanks to all who have returned comment to me.. thanks very much! -tom

I'm going to start commenting on everyone here as I see their pix turn up in the 'latest comment section'. I have trouble getting links here on MSG... so...... Please feel free to comment on anything in my 'folio as you see me comment on your work. If you have the time, go to the latests and see if there's anything you feel you can honestly comment on. Please... don't feel the need to 'force' a comment on anything. If you like it, then please comment. Thanks. Oh... my name there is Trac. =tom

Just to clear the air... if i was ready to give up on LO ..... I wouldn't have pix waiting for review or dozens in the que waiting for me to keyword them.... and a list of pix to upload. ..... I put the same pix on LO I have put everwhere else. They sell at IS, SS, DT, BigStock, StockXpert .... and sell well. I'm still hoping they will sell at LO........... eventually. I find it hard to believe I'm not getting views because my images suck. They don't suck elsewhere, they sell. Does LO have a client base that is completely different than all those other sites? Not likely. There must be a reason. Now Bryan just said a reason might be... might be.... 4. New images might take some time to get exposure based on our search engine. As our traffic increases this will minimize, but short term it might have an impact on views. We also have a couple new features which will increase visibility of images. Fine. Okay. We'll see. Based on other sites, if my pix get viewed, they seem to sell. They aren't getting viewed now at LO. Does the side show help? According to what I've read here in MSG, yes! But. if one is in a no view loop and spiraling downward, then sales never come. The sales don't come, neither does the side show (or payout)... it's a no win, lose/lose situation. ............. I've been with LO for over a year, one of the first to upload at LO... I'm still here, and I'm still uploading. I'm trying to keep the faith. Patiently waiting.. -tom

You've got a point, Lee! I know guys who sit around and argue who paid the most for the same tie and are proud of paying more. Go figure!.

aka-Tom, does that mean you are making money at all of the rest? I ask because I see NLS in there. Are you making money there?
Sorry, sbonk, good point. No, not making a thing at NLS yet, but there I'm not expecting to anytime soon. I'm willing to hang in there for some time (up to a year) and give Darrel a chance to build it up. I hope it takes off as a good portion of my stuff is nature and landscape (national parks, etc) Alamy, just got accepted, so no there as well. There it will be a slow build as I only want to upload material that I don't have on the micros. I'm sure a customer would be ticked to buy a pic there and then see it later on SS for a quarter! The rest? Yeah, I'm happy with the sales, especially IS.

I've had two 30 cent sales this month. When I received the most sales was back when the group of us was doing the comments thing. Maybe we should give that another try? (I was getting a magnificent 5 or 7 sales a month then.) But do an experiment and do it just on non-popular files. BUT on the other hand, LO was at a lot of tradeshows handing out free tokens when we tried that last comments experiment. Who knows?
Hey, I'm up for anything if it'll move some pictures. The comments and Leaf's collections seem to work well at IS, maybe it'll do something here? I'll swap comment for comment with anyone if they think it will make a difference. -tom

I contribute to Crestock, which I've found to be a waste of time. Despite the fact that I've been profiled on their blog, have had 4 images as 'Today's Best Image', as well as 4 images in their free wallpaper promotion, I've only managed to sell $41 in just over 1 year. I can make more than this in one day on SS and IS.
I abandoned them long ago, but recently resumed uploading again in hopes of eventually getting $100 from them. Unless you already have stuff with them, you'd do better to put time in on improving sales on higher yielding sites.
I just signed up last week... haven't uploaded anything yet.... Sharply_done... your opinion is valued! I'm on IS, SS, StockXpert, DT, BigStock, NLS, FT, LO, 123rf, FP, & Alamy... Making hardly any money on 123rf, LO and FP - payouts will be decades in the future, my greatgrand kids will cash 'em in! I'm thinking about picking up more. What/who would you suggest? Thanks! -tom

3 this month.... portfolio of 343.... have 27 in the wings waiting... been on LO since august of 2006 ... only 40 total sales ever...
same pix elsewhere giving me numerous payouts... guess LO clients just don't have a need for my stuff...
at this rate i will never reach even a payout let alone be eligible for a side show.... and i'm starting to think if you don't have side show material.... you're going to be left behind at LO. 6 months ago I was at least getting numerous hits.... now... my new stuff sits at zero or one. It's never viewed. Pretty depressing.
what is payout on LO... i forget....

been waiting for a batch since Sept 6th. Finally, and all but one rejected! All rejected (but one) for "thanks, but too many now". These pix ranged from wheat fields to cityscapes to a kayak on a beach. Guess I need to make more pix of a woman on a phone taken from 53 angles. Oh well... SS, IS, DT, BigStock didn't have too many and they're selling them.. Hey, if the pix sucks, no problem, I can take rejection... but too many on site now? what's that mean? eventually there will be a picture of everything that exists...then what, we close the store,, "hey, we got 10 pix of everything on the planet now, please stop submitting" no problem. -tomModify: just for the heck of it, I searched "Memphis Tennessee" (one of my pix was Memphis skyline taken from out in the Mississippi River). It came back with 11 hits. 3 graphics of the state of tennessee, 3 sunsets on the mississippi river, 4 shots of Graceland and one sign on a bridge saying tennessee. Not one picture of Memphis the city. But there's too many now. I have to agree with Sharply-Done... What Da Heck... Again.. if the picture sux, just tell me it sux and I can take that as constructive critique and work on my craft... but "too many now" How do you make that call? Do a search on every picture you review? Evidently not, that didn't work on "memphis tennessee"... what the heck _ indeed.

My experience is the EXACT REVERSE of yours and the past fortnight I have had a series of best days ever.
Strange.... same for me... each month has been bigger and as a matter of fact, I just got done running my daily talley and today was my best day sales ever at IS. I can't complain about IS. It's been productive for me since day one. If it continues on its current sales pace, it will become my #1 earner (even passing up SS) within a couple months, certainly before year's end. Then again, maybe I'll nosedive too, who knows... Forums? This is the only one I participate in. I used to dabble in LO's but don't even go there now. No time =tom

4 days, 10 hours, 8 minutes.. not counting the time it just took to do this..... hey, you know.. I gotta say this. I don't think but a matter of a couple hours were a 'waste of time' for me. Seriously, I've learned a lot reading what you folks put up ... I consider the opinions expounded here to be of great benefit, agree or not with them. (god, I just sounded like yoda)... I figure reading this site daily is part of my gaining business experience and expanding my knowledge base. Not to mention a fine low cost education! ..............and, quite often, having a good chuckle. long live MSG! =tom

I thought I knew what was wanted... now... i'm confused......... My files come out of the cam at 18meg. My understanding was that I had to uprez them to 48meg. (pixels approx 5100 x 3300 ) That's what I did ....and uploaded them to Alamy. Did I do the right thing ...or will I be getting a fat reject from the other side of the big pond? signed, confused in new jersey. -tom

....on top of what pr2is and freeze and hatman said.... whew... i'm out of breath...........SS is a tough one to get onto... so hang in there, Whiz and while we're on the topic of SS... any of you folks seen an increase in rejections last week or so? I went from a fair-haired-child who could do no wrong, to under 50% acceptance all of a sudden. Some of them, yeah, okay, maybe there's some noise there, but many others... well, I'm not the kind to get upset over rejections, but, some of these others.. I just didn't see it. Wondering if any of you have seen a jump in rejections? None-the-less, Whiz. Keep hammering away at it! SS is my top selling by volume of pix and #2 in money! It's a good outfit and well worth the effort to be accepted on. I'm not complaining above, just wondering if there's some new & zealous talent on the review monitor. -tom
