I've been wondering if the new contributors have been fleeing the flock simply because of the dead sales lately and the increased rejections. The bar is rising higher and higher and I really think with the rejections and the next to nothing payouts, they are walking away. I think that may have been why iStock as well as Dreamstime increased the upload limit because of the shortage of new images.

It seems to me that the most significant issue, after the title keywords, that dictates an image's position in the default sort order, is actually the contributor themselves. How it works or indeed why I have no idea but that is how it appears to me. images.
well that is not so far from the truth either. Serban mentioned that having a good download / image ratio also helps in the rankings but I have yet to put that video up. So deleting old non selling images will improve your images search ranking.
Now everyone is going to be rushing to delete their port of non selling images.. No really that is a good thing to do. I started awhile back doing that at dreamstime but got side tracked having to do something else so never got it done. What is really amazing is when you look at those musty old antique images, you wonder how they even got on there and looking at it you realize why it never sold and are a little embarrassed having it sitting inside your port.

Good point of view Penquin. I personally don't use a lot of keywords and never really have. A problem I run into...take for instance an apple.....keywords apple, fruit, food, red, round....what else is there? I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you have an isolated image and it only contains one item....how are you suppose to put in 7 keywords if there are only 5? The sites won't accept it unless it has at least 7. Now is when you got to start pulling some irrelevant keywords out of the air. Same thing with descriptions....sometimes a simple description isn't enough. That's when I get frustrated.

Wow that's huge......I bet when you see the price tag you wouldn't say "Wow", but you'd shout "OH SH*T!" I bet it'll be above most income levels here....

Here's the IRS site: http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96287,00.html"Who needs an ITIN? IRS issues ITINs to foreign nationals and others who have federal tax reporting or filing requirements and do not qualify for SSNs. A non-resident alien individual not eligible for a SSN who is required to file a U.S. tax return only to claim a refund of tax under the provisions of a U.S. tax treaty needs an ITIN.
Other examples of individuals who need ITINs include: A nonresident alien required to file a U.S. tax return A U.S. resident alien (based on days present in the United States) filing a U.S. tax return A dependent or spouse of a U.S. citizen/resident alien A dependent or spouse of a nonresident alien visa holder
How do I know if I need an ITIN? If you do not have a SSN and are not eligible to obtain a SSN, but you have a requirement to furnish a federal tax identification number or file a federal income tax return, you must apply for an ITIN. If you have an application for a SSN pending, do not file Form W-7. Complete Form W-7 only if the Social Security Administration (SSA) notifies you that a SSN cannot be issued. To obtain a SSN, see Form SS-5, Application for a Social Security Card. To get Form SS-5 or to find out if you are eligible to obtain a SSN, go to Social Security Administration Website or contact a SSA office. By law, an alien individual cannot have both an ITIN and a SSN. IRS processes returns showing SSNs or ITINs in the blanks where tax forms request SSNs. IRS no longer accepts, and will not process, forms showing "SSA205c," "applied for," "NRA," blanks, etc."It sounds to me like if you don't have to file US income taxes you don't need one and the way it sounds is that you don't need one unless you are filing for a refund..Am I understanding that right??? Here is something else that may be a concern "The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) Program is announcing a moratorium effective January 1st through April 30th, 2010 on all new Forms 13551, Application to Participate in the IRS Acceptance Agent Program.
During the moratorium, the IRS will not accept or process Forms 13551, Application to Participate in the IRS Acceptance Agent Program. Only amendments to existing, approved agreements will be accepted during the moratorium. The ITIN Program will resume accepting applications during the new 2010 Acceptance Agent Open Season, effective May 1 through August 31, 2010."I personally don't need one because I am in the Us...this is just info for those of you that have questions..

I don't know about Alamy, but as far as Shutterstock and Bigstock they only required a property release. Dreamstime and iStock required both property and model release from a living relative. Racephoto pointed out that if it is supplied as editorial you wouldn't have to have one but I didn't submit them as editorial. Like I said I don't know how Alamy handles this but that was how the microstock sites handled it. Oh and by the way these photos were portrait photos from the 1800's.

Do I need to get a confirmation email about my approved photos from "Dash for cash" ...? I have not received anything like that....
They were sending out e-mails about which were approved and which were rejected at first, but that quit happening in the middle of July along with the weekly posting about how much you had made so far with dash for cash. Don't know the reason behind that.

If you haven't written a cheque in a while, wait until you have kids in school. It's constant!
Very slowly starting to improve - this year there were a couple of payments I could make online.
I voted in Alamy's survey for PayPal. They didn't ask, but I wish they'd drop the payout amount from $250 if you use an online service I have $180 sitting there and I don't intend to upload any more, but would like to remove my cash.
Keeping it at $250.00 lets them sit on a large amount of money earning them interest. Some people will never see payout and it just sits there earning interest. That would be the case on all the sites. Part of the income potential.

Some places you have no choice but to write a check if they don't have a debit/credit card scanner....so you still have to write checks or pay cash. I read somewhere that you in the US have to pay the credit companies and banks to get to know how much you owe them. Is that true? I think it was something called a credit check or something like that, that you could only do for free once a year, and after that it cost a lot of money?
As for the question about having to pay the credit companies....I think you are referring to the credit bureaus. You have access to a once a year free check of your credit score and make sure there hasn't been a problem with identity theft. Unless there is an instance of credit denial, if you want to check again you do have to pay for it the second time. Your credit report does show who you owe and how much and how well you make your payments ect ect. It is used by loan institutions and credit card companies to check on how well your credit score is before they will approve your applications.

lol it all sounds good on paper but it hasn't been implemented before because it won't work. Setting up a website, maintaining it and promoting it poperly takes time and money and who's going to be the sucker that gets bogged down with the big tasks while others just sit back and go along for the ride?
The smartest idea was the one from djpadavona.
I agree with what sunnymars said. It takes work to create a website and it takes work to keep it updated with new photos ect. If it was just sitting there....it wouldn't be as much work, but to keep fresh content every week...that is work and whoever did it would be blogged down with it all which would be kinda unfair to that individual.

I really doubt any site would accept that with the shadows. You also got shadows on the white area in between the pancake stack not just along the bottom. You don't want those flash shadows.

On that particular photo I would use the bucket tool first and click the white areas. Then what it wasn't able to get with it , I would use the dodge tool.

No way will I put my images for free. I also sell XS sizes. The only way they would buy, would be if all the XS free images were all crap or they did need large images and the way I look at that is if they needed larger images then they won't be looking in the free section to begin with.

I think if you do it in smaller batches, it may help to avoid the dreaded "To many similar" at Dreamstime. At least do it with them.

I just don't like it when someone changes the rules in the middle of the game. To me that isn't being honest and they wait til they got you on a hook before they say....heh by the way...
i have to agree with you there. i think this is quite rude what they are doing and i can understand now why some have developed a distrust for them.
it takes seconds to mass reject everything, but it takes a contributor hours to upload and then months to wait for the review. what a waste of time. although is is another pita, at least their reviewer has spent more than a minute per photo when they isolate an area to explain to you the reason for their rejection.
They actually showed you??? I'm with FD....I've only gotten that from iStock. At Veer it's called mass rejections with all the same reasons in the same batch.

I can't ever think of any more than 15 keywords in some cases and those are the ones I think I thought of a lot.
I'm using Yuri's keywording tool. Maybe that's why I have so many keywords.
I've never tried it....guess I should.

I don't know if there has been too much dashing for cash and they have run out of 'dash cash' but they have just trashed most of my images, good sellers across the other sites. Balderdash I say!
They seem to have selected the same rejection reason for large batches, such as a load of my model shots get "Model's pose and/or expression appear awkward or forced. We prefer to see more natural, authentic body language." Which includes a picture of St.Pauls Cathedral!! Groan.....
That's exactly what happened to me. They started approving almost everything and then it went from bad to worse from there. Some of the rejections were just ridiculous. Then to top it off they have never fixed the problem with their search engine as far as I can tell.
