I have been using Filezilla to FTP to DT,StockXpert,FT,BigStock but I can't seem to get it to work for Shutterstock just tried their active uploaded which crashed somewhere in the middle of a 67 meg upload - ****!.
so I type in
ftp.shutterstock.com
my user name or e-mail address it seems a bit vague
password
Or should I download coffee cup
Just saw a post on another forum that shutterstock was "down" anyone else having trouble?

My two reasons for resizing are
to save upload time
and if someone wants a 8 mp picture they can pay more than 25c or 22c on Shutterstock or 123rf respectively.
Though I suppose CJ Photo is right, sites do change their rules, FT and DT both changed their price structures

Ok my three month wait is over and I resubmitted and the man from Shutterstock said yes.
So I will do a bit to narrow the gap a bit further.
(10/10 though I should bloody hope so as they were my top ten sellers on iStock)
I have heard that Shutterstock aren't as fussy as Istock in terns acceptance rate but don't want to piss them off by FTPing lots of photos that consider not worthy. So if they were accepted by FT or DT they should be worth uploading??

Every site aprt from featurepics will automatically resize your pictures so if the customer is only paying $1 they only get a small image after all the hassle of keywording it would be rather unfair if we had to upload numerous sizes. Bare in mind that if you are shooting at higher than 4 mp it is worth resizing for some sites check out the size table on www.fintastique.com/guide.htm it shows the price structure for the major sites. I hope you haven't signed up exclusive with Fotolia as some of the other sites have higher payouts. Steve

Yes I have switched to digital but I have about 10 years of travel prints mostly of the USA unfortunately with fairly cheap compact cameras. I have managed to get a few online (mostly at 123rf) but I was trying to get a few more on StockXpert. Has anyone bothered (had any success) scanning old prints of unusual locations if so what rez 2mp, 3mp 4mp? I have a feeling it depends on the print, if its nice and bright will give you a 4 mp but if there is a lot of fine detail or if its fairly dark the grain or lack of detail in the print will be apparent. I know iStock tell you not to even bother scanning a 6 x 4 inch (10 x 15 cm) print One of the lucky ones http://www.dreamstime.com/59thstreetbridge-image591167Still waiting with baited breath for Shutterstock to review my second review batch of photos and Alamy to get back to me regarding my CD. Steve www.fintastique.com/guide.htm needs updating, its on the list

How strange I wait a month nothing then post a comment on this site regarding ridicously slow reviewing times at Gimmestock and then 150 images are suddenly reviewed within 24 hours.

I suppose any newbies would be better waiting for some feedback from the other groups before uploading to IS if they only have a 30 photo/week limit (like I do) if they have a lot of photos to submit.
I read somewhere about a guy who had set up his own nanostock agency and once he had uploaded his photos to his server it would FTP them to the sites that were FTP friendly. Need to find that newsgroup e-mail.

Quoting from my microstock guide http://www.fintastique.com/guide.htm which I haven't plugged for a while minimum payouts Featurepics $50 PSM 60 euros StockXpert $50 Fotolia $50 with no $1 surcharge Incidently the results from my google adwords experiment an advert linking to my guide in two weeks £17 bought 860,000 appearances 156 clicks and no sign ups or sales I can see - bugger.

Do any of these programs allow you to type in a whole string of keywords or are they all like the exifer and photoshop you type in a keyword and click on "add" (just I am very right handed typing and clicking with my right hand so having to switch from the keyboard to the mouse slows down my stream of consciousness). That why I persisted in using keywords in EXIF format for so long though only 3 sites pick them up DT, PSM and Gimme I hope keyword order/ keyword weighting is not important at Dreamstime as I have noticed their latest idea add 10 keywords to an uploaded file and earn 2c so basically the only way to make this worth while is to copy and paste the same 10 vague to similar files, someone hit my images of Edinburgh castle http://www.dreamstime.com/edinburghcastleatdusk-image556794Its not hard to spot the additions, some people must have too much time on their hands or are desperately close to that $100 payout to bother. the only problem this will probably cause some rather random similar images to aopear with the new tenous keywords.

Anyone had a acceptances or even sales from these guys. I have a load of files there for nearly a month waiting review they seem to be stuck at 39,000 images. I must admit they are the first site I have actually given up on, not uploading anymore.
Can Stock and PSM are beginning to try to my patience as well but at least they review the photos

Renegade reviewer that explains a lot though thanks to that person I slipped below the magic 50% mark so now I can only have 30 photos in the pending queue, which can be rather annoying.
Are we allowed to resubmit images?
Sales aren't great but at least its only $30 before you can cash out.

Yep getting 50% of non subscription downloads is definately a plus.
The last time I checked I had a 97% acceptance rate with this agency though they once boasted they increase their portfolio by xxx a month.
Definately downloads in surges I suspect if someone finds something they are looking for amongst your portfolio they usually download more pics.
Actually more sales here than Big Stock, Can Stock, Gimme or spm though still some way from that first payout.

I sometimes wonder if they do it deliberately to get us to read the blog.
They always seem to have their unscheduled maintenance in the European afternoon (USA morning) should be back in a couple of hours.
Glad i got all my uploads done this morning.

Has anyone had much success advertising their website and their portfolios with Google Adwords or similar?
Before I started up in micro stock I had mixed sucess with text adverts lots of visitors but no sales.
I tried graphical adverts but I never seem to bid high enough for them to appear, are they cost effective?
Thanks
Steve

To answer your question, StockXpert is Hungary/US based, however our evaluators are based all over the world, from Poland to Malaysia. So it is possible that it appeared to the evaluators that you uploaded more than 50 a day.
If you leave your photos in the briefcase, they shouldn't be in the pending for evaluation queue.
For anyone who has had e-mails reminded them about the 50/day limit, it also explains their rapid review times. If anyone has a 8mp camera you would be stupid not to be submitting here as you can earn $2, a pity there is no photographer referral system at present.

Have they hired the entire population of Nova scotia as reviewers?
As they have had a real turn around on reviewing 9 days to a few hours. If only they could sell some photos.

I use Exifer for keywording in IPTC details I finally found if you add the keywords individually like you are supposed to iStock's imagemanager, 123,DT,PSM,Can,BigStock,StockXpert,FT, all are happy. Though I found that if you spot a mistake and have to correct something with photoshop and resave the details are lost.

My three months wait is almost up waiting for a second chance at shutterstock, so for sending the next ten any ideas. I was thinking of submitting my top ten sellers at iStock. I sent my top five sellers to Stockxpert and they were happy. Steve www.fintastique.com/guide.htm

Full details of Stockxperts prices what the photographer gets 600 x 800 50c 2 mp $1 4 mp $1.50 8 mp $2 So a nice payout for those with an 8 mp cameras. Unfortunately I uploaded 180 before noticing I could get double what Fotolia were paying for an 8mp photo. More details in my guide, a pity they don't have a referrals system for photographs yet. Not too impressed with Big Stock's "dirty tricks" they allow a huge backlog to build up then to clear it they just reject image after image. My latest batch of over 100 photos which was had a 50-70% acceptance rate with other agencies was less than 30% with Big Stock so then that dragged me down to below 50% so I could only have 30 photos pending. Recently they introduced up load limits depending on your acceptance rating. I was stuck at 10 photos/day. I went away for a week and since then I have been able to upload and edit over 30 photos in a day even though the uploader says I have used up my limit . Has anyone else noticed this? If so its not surprising they have a 9 day queue. Out of my earners they are very comfortably last. A pity as I liked the uploader and series wizard as my portfolio gets more haphazard by the day.

The only downside of iStock uploade ris not being able to see thumbnails, so you need to know where your "good" files are.
My favourite method these days is to start FTPing a few files then to drag and drop new files into the queue when they are ready for uploading.
Are DT, FT, BigStock and StockXpert the only ones with the FTP option?

Cool the only payments I have ever received were from ebay from credit cards so it was 30c + 2-3% commission every time.

For any newbies I have collected a few bits of data regarding the different agencies, regarding mimumum size, earning etc. If you don't have time to read all the text the tables especially the last one should answer a lot of questions. Steve www.fintastique.com/guide.htm
