Sorry to hear you got caught out by that one for future payments can you change the e-mail address? So you can set up a premier/business account.

Just switched one of my paypal accounts to a personal one (I had to ask twice) so if I get a $50 dollar transfer made from Fotolia beside the exchange rate from dollars to Pounds stirling will there be any other deductions?

well after having to submit two batches of photos to prove myself worthy and forgetting to move my photos from the briefacse after FTPing. I am quite impressed with this site.

I was having trouble with IPTC tags but even without them their bulk editor allowing you to fill the blanks for multiple files and actually having the photo approved before you have taken the time to fill in the keywords are both big pluses.

Apparently their daily upload limit is 50.

Is their default setting of order of photos newest first??

I was quite surprised to see Budapest listed along with Paris, London,Rome and Berlin as "famous European cities" but then I realized there is a Hungarian connection. Hopefully I will start seeing some of the sales everyone is talking about.

My tactic this week was to submit to the other groups and then pick the best thirty for iStock though I only got feedback friomn FT, DT and SPM. Big Stock and Canstock are glacial at the moment.

I personally am wallowing at 35% acceptance with the almighty iStock though I am sure i am not alone in thinking that some of iStock's "Junk" is acceptable for other agencies who have smaller collections and less contributors.

I suppose ideally it would be nice to be able to choose between daily uploads and weekly upload limits as with their high rejection rates it would take a newbie longer to build up a portfolio as its dropped from 70/week to 30/week.

Though there is a distinct advantage after a big trip/photoshoot, submit what you consider to be the best shots to DT then after 4-5 days or less you will see their choices then you use this to tweek your upload to iStock

been out and about in the Scottish highlands increasing my mountain/winter/skiing portfolio and now back to upload it all.

Can stock seem to have lifted their 10 pictures/day limit at least for me. Though an 8 day queue for reviewing.

I was pleasantly surprised after not submitting anything to iStock for a week I could upload 30 photos which i did so then found I couldn't upload anything for another 168 hours (one week to the rest of us).

Is that their new rule? or just because I had stopped submitting for a week.

Fotolia seem to have pulled their finger out (after the endless wait for feedback) some of my photos were reviewed (rejected) within minutes of submitting.

Apparently they have disabled their 10 file upload and want you to ftp instead though some people are having problems.

I just submit to them as if i edit my EXIF I can submit to three sites Dreamtime, photostockmedia and gimme. The first is biggest earner as iStock are just so darn fussy and the 10/day limit.

Going back to gimmestock a quote from their rejection e-mail

A bit sad especially when my current acceptance rate is 75% with them and there are 67 photos of mine in the queue.

Not to mention its 20.30 in the UK so its 12.30pm in LA and 3.30pm in NYC and Gimmestock haven't approved any photos so far today according to their website, maybe their reviewer is sick.

Then there is the others, such as scanstock, gimmestock, stockphotomedia, crestock, ... but I have only had 1 or 2 downloads on those sites and have around 100-500 images on them.... I will upload more if they ever start getting a few more downloads but until then, it is a waste of time.

Leaf wrote that on the 8th of Feb, so any more sales in the last two months with stockphotomedia Leaf?

If you have recently upgraded your camera a bigger picture would certainly be better on the sites that pay for size.

I suppose if you waited a few months between deleting an image and resubmitting nobody would notice. The only problem would be if the site hadn't become saturated with photos in that theme since your first upload.

I know Fotolia won't let you delete anything that was uploaded in Jan or Feb rewards program for a year and Big Stock have a 90 day wait for deletions.

Maybe an idea holding back on a couple of shots of a series as the reviewers would probbaly reject a couple of them for being too samey and phaze out the ones that don't sell after a few months

Its a bit like the exclusivity question without parallel universes you will never know if you are better just having them all exclusive with istock (obviously not the case for most of us).

I have  a feeling I am supposed to check the site for messages none yet.

A few sites show the latest photos to be added to the collection so i suppose if you are uploading on a regular basis you will have a presence (however fleeting) in this section so someone will see one of your pictures and either download that or something else when they look at your portfolio.

I suppose the other factor is that new photos tend to find themselves at the front of the list when somebody does a search.

I have read before you need to keep uploading at Shutterstock to maintain sales.

Stockphotomedia are based in Sweden so you will get paid in Euros.

They offer 35-55% of the sale and their prices range is 2-6 euros so if you do manage to sell something, its good 3.3 euros for a 4 mp photo

I have now 281 photos with them and they have had about 30 photos since the 9th of March and no sales yet. Maybe worth sending them your best sellers to see what happens before doing a big upload.

I have added an earning part to my guide what agencies pay ( if anyone spots any mistakes let me know)

www.fintastique.com/guide.htm

On the plus side they extract title and keywords from the EXIF tag and usually review the photos in 24 hours and have a reasonable acceptance rate.

General Stock Discussion / EXIF vs IPTC tags
« on: April 04, 2006, 08:19 »
I am currently submitting to eight different sites and I am trying to streamline the process.

I have noticed that some sites will extract data regarding subject and keywords from EXIF and IPTC tags on a JPG file.

Stockphotomedia
Gimmestock
DT

Have no trouble extracting that data from the EXIF tag

Fotolia and Can Stock seem to be able to cope with IPTC

BUT 123 and Big Shot claim to extract data from IPTC but in my experience they don't, even though Fotolia and Can Stock coped fine with the same files.

What programs do people use to edit IPTC tags?

Any ideas??

Just had my first sale of a photo of NZ 1024 x 768 for $2 so I should be able to sell my 8mp photos for a few bucks and I very impressed by my 70% cut.

One problem I noticed at the moment they send you a cheque when you reach $50, which for any non-US photographers is very bad as I doubt we will see anything after the bank takes it handling fee for converting to local currency.

I have just e-mailed them regarding introducing Paypal, moneybooker or at the very least sending a bigger cheque.

Will let y'all know of their reponse.

Definately seems the site to watch.

Signed up last night, I noticed you seem to have quite a few photos there. Though they wanted 5 photos to see if I was worthy and to write a short bio.

Glad to hear they support IPTC as do Gimmestock though it takes a few clicks to get to the next file to change the catgories.

Not the best deal but better than nothing about to upload some of my Paris photos the onky ones that ever sem to be downloaded.

Be wary of their galleries wizard I thought it was similar to can Stock's just arranging a group of thumbnail but instead it groups six photos together and then lets anyone right click and get your picture 412 x 550 for free. Ok too small to do anything with but still a bit annoying. I suppose not so bad if its a big image so people will be willing to pay for the full size version.

At the moment I am just uploading foreign pictures too small for everywhere else, they only have 10,000 images so plenty of room for additions. I had a few clicks but no downloads yet.

« on: March 27, 2006, 11:25 »
Leaf,

In regard to the skeleton key photo that got bumped from number one. I heard somewhere that Shuterstock search engine favours new photos so a newer image with similar keywords would bump out the old photo. Not sure about other sites as I managed to get the number one spot for quite a few searches on Fotolia.

Interested to hear there are those "making a living" with the stock thing as it something I would like to do when my savings run out. If it ever stops raining I am going to give Emporis a go, taking photos of anything higher than 12 storeys in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Anybody submit to them??

Does anybody know anybody who submits video to shutterstock as I have lots of 640x480 footage of around Scotland, I would hope some is considered worthy and it certainly would be nice to get such extra cash.

I suppose one major drag for any non-US residents is how weak the dollar is.

My first camera was a 2mp pixel I bought it in Hawaii with a 256 meg card whilst on holiday and took everything at 1024 x 768 DOH!!

Well at least my pictures from that trip and others have a chance to be seen and sold.

I notice at the bottom of the FeaturePics page it reads

"unique images found nowhere else in the world"

So the photos are exclusive to them or just a catchy line?? I didn't see that anywhere else on that site, not a problem for small pictures.

Just signed up.

Hey why did nobody mention they accept anything bigger than 600 x 800. This is excellent as the only other site that i know of that are interested in such sizes is Big Stock. Though i have yet to try.

So now finally i can display photos from trips abroad where i was squeezing photos onto the memory card.
