It seems that they have added another server and this might be a consequence of that action.

You can read about it here:

Shutterstock.com / Re: What do you expect the pay rise to be?
« on: April 05, 2007, 19:55 »
Didn't the subscription fee go up from $189 to $199 (for a single month)?
I guessed a 5% increase because this reflects the subscription fee increase.

Incorrect.

The monthly price increased from $159 to $199, or about 25%.  Other subscriptions (quarterly, yearly, etc) increased about 25% as well.

They also increased prices to buyers by about 25% recently.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Trads v. Micros Article
« on: April 04, 2007, 11:07 »
I think that the following quote from Fotolia President is quite interesting:

"As he describes it, the microstock model is the picture of efficiency. Submissions pour in electronically from photographers, who get 50 percent or more of the proceeds of each sale."

I know that I'm not getting 50% from Fotolia!  Are any of you?

For some reason, I don't think that Chad, Eugenie, or the others are in NY.

I saw those addresses on the web sites, but they didn't seem correct to me for some reason.

Is SS really in NY?

As for 123RF, I'm not looking for the parent corporation (Inmagine), but the actual location of 123RF itself.  For some reason I thought that it was located in Europe.  Is it really in Hong Kong?

736
Where are the main offices of the major microstock sites physically located?

Here is what I have so far (please correct me if I am incorrect):
iStock - Calgary, Canada
Dreamstime - Bucharest, Romania
Stockxpert - Budapest, Hungary
Bigstock - Davis, CA
LuckyO - Campbell, CA

Shutterstock - ?
Fotolia - ?

General Stock Discussion / Re: to be a reviewer
« on: March 27, 2007, 21:21 »
...you would have to review 189 images a minute, or 3 images a second.

I think that your math is off a little.

1500 images/day = 187.5 images/hr (if we assume an 8 hour day) = 3.125 images/min = 1 image every 19.2 sec

If we use 1000 images/day, it turns out to be 1 image every 28.8 sec.

Still seems extremely fast for reviewing an image (especially since there is overhead for loading the image and approving/disapproving it), but at least it is more accurate.

What do you think?

Are you using a wide-angle lens.  For some reason, some of the photos look like they have wide-angle distortion.

I have dealt with B&H for over 15 years.  They are an extremely reputable company.  They used to have the best deals on photo equipment, but with the advent of the internet you can find things cheaper elsewhere.  But cheaper is not necessarily always better.

I recently purchased a Canon EOS 30D from them last fall.  I got the camera and took about a half-dozen shots and the camera threw an Err 99.  I turned off the camera and I tried everything recommended (take out the battery for a long period of time, etc), but the camera would never turn back on.  As with eendicott, they emailed me a pre-paid UPS shipping label to return the camera.  I was extremely surprised that they would pay for shipping on a returned product.  They took the camera back and shipped me a new one within a week.  That is great customer service.

I'm not sure how they would handle your situation, since you are shipping the product to Florida, but might be returning the product from Canada.  You might want to just give them a call and ask them about shipping to Canada.  I'm sure that they do it all the time.

StockXpert.com / Re: How is StockXpert doing for you?
« on: March 24, 2007, 06:06 »
Just closed my account after one week. With about 150 images there was only one sale in 7 days. Strange but true, this one sale that was accepted on the second day, was rejected today.

Never got this kind of work where an images was accepted, than sold and after rejected and taken out of database.

Did they say why it was rejected?

Photo Critique / Re: Is this saleable???
« on: March 23, 2007, 21:40 »
Yes, I think that images of models that are not in their teens or early 20s should sell quite well.

In this particular image, I'm not crazy about the lighting, especially the dark shadow over the right eye and the over-exposure on the right-side of the head.

LuckyOliver.com / LO Offers PayPal and MoneyBookers
« on: March 22, 2007, 15:44 »
LO has added the ability to request payouts via PayPal or MoneyBookers.  I have no idea if they are using MassPay or not.

Now if they would only reduce their payouts to $50...

See here for more details:

BTW, what is the search that you are using on Google to find your images?

LuckyOliver.com / Re: LO and Google images

Yes, noticed that too,  otoh, I have some images with comments too, surely they would have to show up aswell?

Yes, that would seem like it should make sense.  When were the comments added?  Maybe it just takes some time for them to get indexed by Google?

LuckyOliver.com / Re: LO and Google images
« on: March 21, 2007, 11:34 »
When I search for images with my first and second name, I get 16 results, all link to LO, and none of the images are mine!
It seems the displayed image is one of the "similar" images (Geopappas') that is displayed under my own image.

This is just a guess, but it might be working the exact opposite of the way that you are thinking.  You might actually be getting free marketing from my image!

Your image of the moon on LO (http://www.luckyoliver.com/photo/408970/moon) doesn't have any comments.

My image of the moon on LO (http://www.luckyoliver.com/photo/406760/full_moon_w_copyspace) has three comments.

According to Bryan from LO, Google picks up photos that have comments:

http://www.luckyoliver.com/blog/122/descriptions_add_value
http://www.luckyoliver.com/blog/153/comment_coaching
http://www.luckyoliver.com/blog/126/More+on+Comments

So it seems that Google is actually picking up my photo as the primary, but since you are listed in the related images for my image, it also picks up yours.

So your image looks like it might be getting free marketing from mine!

What a twist of events!
