Hey guys/gals , Please take a look at this photo and tell me what's up with the lightened spot on the shirt. Is it dust, a reflection or what? I haven't noticed it anywhere except in studio, but I may just not be observant. Thanks for looking, and if it isn't dust, any idea how I can change my light setup so it doesn't do this?

Wow, is it beneficial to rewrite encyclopedia articles though? Or better yet, have you ever had a rejection based on a description like that? My hats off to you, for you put more effort into your description of the caribou than I would have.

Well I know I have stopped uploading there this month. Takes too long to upload and not enough sales. I've recently reached over 2000 photos there and I bet I haven't even made $50 in a year. I made like 60 cents this month. When FTP is introduced or sales increase, I will resume uploads.

Featurepics has a really cool link in the "Photo Club" section. http://www.featurepics.com/stat/stat.aspxHere it tells you what % of the contributors have their images at certain prices and then another % of what the buyers are actually buying. Unfortunately, don't get your hopes too high as I don't know of anyone who is doing really well there. If you go by the pie chart though, anywhere between $1-$10 should do ok, but if you increase the price anymore, not nearly as many people will buy it.

This is a one time deal I am doing here. Sure I enjoy seeing what others are making, but I do NOT like sharing my earnings with everyone. However.... I am going to break my rule this one and only time. My grand total for ALL of the year 2008 from Jan - Dec is a whopping $2,442.72 I really only started in Jan 2008 so this is a pretty good reflection of one year of work. Now keep in mind that as I learn more techniques and what reviewers want, my photography skills have developed (or at least I hope they have! ), and most of this money has been made in the last few months. I know many of you are like me and don't share revenue, but if you would like to share the revenue you made on your very FIRST year of doing microstock, that would be interesting to see. As for now..... it's Photoshop time!

What a mess of a voting system this is now. lol Go figure, I had to be the one to start it. In order for this voting system to work properly, I believe that if we have all the "entries", that they should all be listed properly and together and the poll be reset so everyone can vote once for their favorite. Some people already voted and can't vote again for a different logo they think is better. I would reset the poll and try to fix it, but others may not agree, so it will stand as is.

Great! But how do you manage editing photos Dragon? DO you have troubles with colors sometimes? My father is red-green colors blind aswell.
I used to have quite a lot of problems getting poor acceptance ratios due to color balance and such. I actually started a thread back in march about this. I have followed some tips and think I am much better now. (Of course using strobes nowadays helps compared to 500 watt work lights) http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?topic=3940.0

I actually like this one the best now! Great Job! I agree that I would like the logo to reflect that of a photographers community, and this does it nicely.

Oh, I think it's great with orange. Just, there are people who are color blind, and orange and green is not the best combination, because this is most frequent case of color blindness (red-green). Again, I don't know for sure how those people see exactly this combination Dragon fang used
That is too funny! I am red-green color blind and had to pick some color variations I could see together. These ones I could see fine, so that's what I used. With some of the other shades I found the colors were blending together, even though they are not similar.

This one is by far my favorite. Nice work Kyle!
FWIW the reason I prefer the orange is because it is eye-catching and upbeat. Sort of the color of zeal or enthusiasm (if they had a color).
In all reality, I like this one the best as well.

Orange color is more aggressive, that's why I like it. Blue is more elegant, but it's not very eye catchy. But I don't like vertical text too much, and I like more the format of blue logo. I would replace "m" in orange logo with "" because "" means micro, and "m" means milli (1/1000)
Here is my try with whitechild's idea.
The colors are nice, but the meaning will be lost for the vast majority of people who see it. It would be more appropriate for a science related web site perhaps. I fear poor Leaf would spend half his time explaining the logo rather than sharing information about what goes on here.
Right you are! I agree it probably would be a problem as many people don't know what that symbol means. Anyways here is an orange version....

Leaf and Kngkyle have both posted logo ideas at http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?topic=6862.30While both are good, I am curious to see which one everyone thinks would suit microstockgroup.com better. I hope I'm not stepping out of line by doing this. Remember, it is ultimately up to Leaf what he uses as a logo! This poll is for curiousity sakes. (Plus this is the first poll I've done here and wanted to try one! )Leaf's Logos are Orangeedit: edited to add another logo

Sorry to start another "Are you allowed" thread, and by no means am I criticizing the photographer/illustrator. But I would like to know if this is normally allowed, as I don't see it often. In fact I think this is the first time I've seen it. Here is the image in question. http://www.bigstockphoto.com/photo/view/3518746

the meeting went very well and about an hour and a half into it someone comes running into the room and says look out the window a plane has crashed into the hudson river. that threw everyone for a loop but thank god everyone was ok. what an amazing story.
Wow, I seen that story on the news! I never even thought that someone in this community might have been there. I truly am glad everyone was ok.

I would not care if I was the model. Only 12 years old think being gay is bad. At least I hope it's the case in the 21th century
I wouldn't care if I was the model either... but then again I do know a lot of people that are still very homophobic. (Sorry if that's not politically correct.)

I found this magazine http://issuu.com/wesbenn/docs/gaytimesmag , with one of Yuri's models. It is a gay magazine and Yuri's model is on the cover. Some people would take offense at this and others wouldn't. What's your view if you seen one of your models in a gay/lesbian magazine?

I like energizer rechargeables 2500mah and the 15 minute charger, for when I need batteries quickly. I find if you don't use them within a few days you will have to recharge them though. I also like Walmarts Pure Energy rechargeable alcalines. They are cheap, they work very well for me in my sb-800 flash, and I can store them charged for quite a long time without them losing power. (I'm not sure how long though). I am sure normal AA batteries in the sb-800 would last longer, but since I do most of the photography work at home and on short trips, I don't mind filling up some ziploc bags with Pure Energy.
Make sure you figure out some way to keep your batteries organized though. When I open a pack and kill them, I put them in a ziploc bag labelled dead. I only have 4 batteries in a ziploc at a time and always the same ones together. This way I don't mix up ones I use more often with the ones I just bought or opened.

When I first started microstock I decided on the username that first came to mind (the name in my email address I have used for years). I didn't really believe you could make money with Microstock so I didn't give it much thought. But as time has passed I wonder. Surely buyers wouldn't bypass my images based on my name, but is dragon_fang too unprofessional? If I used my real name, Richard Nelson, I would be competing with Richard Nelson Bolles (a famous author) among many others and I would never find any of my pictures in use on google. So let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions on a new name for me, fire them at me. I've been called every name in the book, so let them fly! *just don't try too many rhymes with Ricky, as it can get dirty pretty quickly
