Microstock News / Re: ShutterStock press pass
« on: June 13, 2007, 11:01 »
but in germany if you had a press pass for an event your wouldn't be selling those images for 30 cents, you'd be selling them to a press agency or paper for a lot more.

Just think about this you take a one off stunning image that get sold all over the world, you get 30 cents per publication, however if you had sold this to a proper agency you might be able to retire, it's been known to happen. This image of Gazza crying after england got booted out of the world cup made the photographer hundreds of thousands of pounds

why would you want to sell editorial images at SS prices, a person I know happened to be at the right place at the right time and made almost a years salary off one image that was sold all over the world.

was going like that then all of a sudden May came along and turned everything on its head, better sales at SS and IS has more than halved compared to April.

Should you sell anything there, you have to take care of invoicing, money transfers etc. yourself.

Sounds like too much effort

You can't, what's stopping you, does the company check?

Sales completely tanked this month, haven't even sold half as many at this point as I did last month, have IS played with the search engine again?

Sharply done I had forgotten all about Image Vortex and that I had images on the site until this morning when I had the emails informing me of the sales. I only have 11 images on the site, maybe some more will sell over the next 5 years or so and I will get a payout, I doubt that I will ever upload anymore images to them.

After being on the site for nearly 18 months and with a very small portfolio, they reject all my stuff I have finally sold 2 images. It's probably going to take another 3 years to reach payout.

He claims to be the 2nd best earning microstockphotographer.

Who is the first.

One has to wonder is Lisa G submitted to all sites how much more money she would make, I can't see being exclusive at IS being as good as being everywhere. I would also wonder if she decided to do that would IS give her a better deal to stay?

you have to remove that image from all other stock sites if you sell the right on DT. It's in the T&C's.

Has anyone ever sold the rights to an image as DT? Just curious.

I'd rather have a portfolio of active (and therefore "interesting") images than one which just takes up space.

Why should you worry about the images taking up space, IS is paying for it not you. I've had images that have taken 9 months before they sold if I'd deactivated them then I never would have made the sale.

i think it is rather unfair to say that shutterstock is geared towards those to upload often, and that other sites are better for people who don't upload.

That might be unfair but it's true, the same can also be said for 123rf, upload all the time and you get sales, stop uploading and they drop off, this doesn't happen at IS or DT in my experience.

Yup that's how shutterstock works, you get heaps of downloads in the first week or so then it trails off unless you keep on uploading everyday, shutterstock is geared towards photographers who upload hundreds of images per month. There are dozens of threads on the SS boards and more than a few here that discuss this. Other sites (namely IS) work a lot better for people who don't upload a lot.

I average .54 cents more than twice what I get from SS, DT is better .72 cents.

The stats you get from IS have got to be the best and most detailed, something along those lines would be good.

Crickey this thread is going on a bit isn't it. Personally I wouldn't be offended at someone calling me a twit, there are far worse things to be called.

All I wanted with this post was to bring to peoples attention that things said here can have an impact on you. If you want to be controversial use an alter, it's safer.

The offending post has been deleted, I guess at the request of Jon.

I wasn't really badmouthing, just not agreeing with an announcement that was made which I didn't think was a good business decision, had I made an announcement like that to my guys all hell would have broken loose and caused all sorts of problems.

95
It might be a good idea to allow alters on this forum.

Wow just had an email from a stock site taking me to task over a comment I made here, they have invited me to remove my portfolio, scary stuff. Has anyone else had this experience?

Or you add the brandnames into the keywords after the image has been accepted.

They suck, the just rejected a batch of mine which are of my wife, i've used the exact same release before and they have no problem now they aren't accepted because the release isn't good enough, I'm half expecting them to delete my other shots now.

Surprisngly, the past three months have been my best months ever on IS.

Shutterstock on the other hand, has been steadily declining.

same with me.

fantastic I knew there had to be another silver lining to the New Zealand cloud, the sites I'm thinking of submitting to only ask if you own the rights to the images which I do. Yippee for me.
