Just discovered today that ~40 of my recent images were all in the free section. Not really looking forward to reuploading and waiting for approval. They should seriously fix this issue!

Seems like you might be having an acute episode of GAS! I would say that you should just hold on to the money. Ask yourself what is it that your current gear cannot do, and if the gear will really be improving your photography. If you're really itching to get something, try borrowing/renting it first, and then think again!

If you REALLY want to buy something, get a yongnuo speedlight and one of those cheap chinese softboxes they sell on ebay for $5. The lenses you currently have are excellent, and it would probably be better to buy lights.

Do you have an image to illustrate what you mean?  If you are talking about perfectly straight lines, then you have to shoot it straight on.

I've gotten five times more sales during the same time period on ss than on dt. Their review times have gotten considerably longer too.

Only five times? So your sales on DT are good.
Or your sales on Shutterstock are so bad?

This month I have already 400 times more sales on Shutterstock than on Dreamstime

Just starting out, I have around a hundred images on both sites. The difference is still pretty significant.

Keep in mind that food designs, unless it's something like home cooking, can be copyrighted.

What a disgusting way to treat contributors. They should be ashamed of acting in such an unprofessional way. What will customers think of a company that treats others in such a childish manner?

I do not think you should be using a macro screw-on lens, as they can degrade image quality.

Yes, that is true. I read that f4 on my camera has much more DOF than on a DSLR. That explains why I need to use such a low f number for flower photography when i want to blur the background. A real challenge to blur the background with this camera. I took a real close up photo yesterday and one of these 3 garlic bulbs is really out of focus. But the asparagus photo????? Honestly, I can't see that being soft in focus. I think I need a new eye test.  :)

F4 on the RX100 would equal F10.8 in 35mm terms. (2.7x factor) However, DOF also substantially decreases as the magnification ratio increases. Do you have a sample of the image? Where on the image did you focus on?

Sorry for the two deleted posts. I keep mixing up the quote and the modify button. I have no idea how to delete the post.

As a last resort, try making the image smaller. Especially with things such as macro photography, it is impossible to get everything in focus. By making the image smaller, the image will appear to be more in focus. Be warned though, as you will have to make the image significantly smaller, usually one fourth as many megapixels as the original image. I've had many macro images that have been rejected at full resolution (24 mp, D610), but accepted at 8 mp, 10 mp. You should have more DOF when using small-sensor cameras, though.

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT Review time
« on: May 18, 2016, 09:17 »
Back in January/February it took only 20-40 hours for a review to come through. Now though, review times have become insanely long. ETA appears to be 130+ hrs, but usually take at least two weeks. Not sure what's up with that though.

Great job! Another great tool to (hopefully) find ways to increase sales!

Send them a message. At least that was how I got them to review my images, after 4 weeks of waiting.

Photo Critique / What do you think of my portfolio?
« on: May 16, 2016, 05:21 »
What do you think of my portfolio? Started a exactly a year ago, but got serious about it during december. Mostly flowers/travel images right now, but I'm planning to put in some more "conceptual" images.

My fotolia portfolio has exactly the same images, but I have not managed to get any sales at all. Any advice on that?

All comments appreciated. Thanks!

Basically this. Check with each stock agency, as there are many things that are surprisingly copyrighted (e.g. bottle designs). Also, if you have a feeling it might be somehow copyrighted, then it probably is. I would say that shutterstock is the strictest on copyrights, and dreamstime being more lax.

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Rejecting everything
« on: March 28, 2016, 09:18 »
Almost every single image that I have uploaded and even sold on other stock websites have been rejected consistently for very vague and unfair reasons. "Out of focus," not unique enough, invalid keywords, not professional in composition, you name it. Who even hires these reviewers?

Absolutely disgusting! Photographers already have it bad these days, especially with all the stealing happening on social media sites nowadays. Hopefully your situation will improve.

Photography Equipment / Re: D750 for microstocks
« on: February 20, 2016, 00:08 »
I use the D610, which has a lower-tier AF than the D750, and I find that the autofocusing works just fine. The D750 should be even better than the D610, and even has face-detect AF with "eye-priority."
