I only submit videos footage and my first thought is thats a really high number, especially compared to the bonus programs of the past couple years.
I have a portfolio of 9000+ videos and Ive always though that I have a wide variety of high quality videos, but Ive never had 625 sales in a year.
It also doesnt help that my sales have been going down pretty significantly since last October.
I upload 90% videos and 10% images, but i'm in the same boat...after a bit of math i think that i'll have about 4500 points at the end of the year. At this point i think that i'll invest more time on affinity suite for vector and raster (or other alternatives) and i'll go with the bonus for After Effects. 'Thanks' to lockdown i have time to learn Bmd Fusion...my plan-B I know that 60/month are nothing if you are in the business, but MS is a different beast...earnings are like a rollercoaster, so i think that it's a wise choice to invest time on alternatives. Said that, thanks Mat and thanks to Adobe for the offer!

Cameras? Photos are a dead horse (unless you are a very talented guy), but...what about illustrators or motion designers? CG is everywhere, but it's not so easy, you need to learn very complex softwares, years of practise, and a bit of talent. Technology is evolving, microstock is evolving, face it.
Time is the most expensive item. Still images and videos are not interchangeable.
There used to be a lot of Facebook ads with videos but there are less of them now. Because people don't have time to spend watching them. And then those short title animations, how many of them are needed? One, one per story.
You also can't have all of them animated at the same time on the web page. Because they will look super annoying and distracting. It's the reason YouTube uses still thumbnails instead of animated ones.
Of course, videos have a place in the media but still images are the main things. More demand in still images and also more supply, less demand in videos and also less supply, and a bit higher price for video because of higher cost, simple as that.
Bragging about this is very childish.
i'm childish? mhhh...ok

Paper magazines sell less and less. Online magazines are the future. But maybe im wrong.
dreamser...you are just considering that nothing change....video already see many subscription model with cheap price 1,5 dollar per sale, near photo but sale for video are not comparable, probably one video eery 1000 photo if not more....the same as motion graphic illustration, probably considering the crisis there will be even more competition...everybod living photo for video and motion graphic, the same pressure on price, high offer low demand....it-s a fact...in addiction while more complex motion design is not nuclear science...in easter europe there are zillions people doing this. so don-t believe a lot on your idea.
ok, you're right
no is u right...i bet what you want in year you earn half of what you do now...but you are the kind of people who want deny th reality
As i said...you are right, nothing else to add. I leave you to your beliefs. Good luck

There will always be Microstock. Maybe artists will make nothing, and some companies will close, but there will always be Microstock as long as there are people with cameras.

My stocks are doing normal, if not a little better.
Me too. If this is the trend, march will be my MBE, but it's too early to predict that. I live in Italy...North Italy, you know, ground zero...but i'm optimistic, so please don't panic and act like wise people.

Great, now everyone is gonna be a videographer! Hahahah!
Just kidding! what is the future of video?
Maybe motion design (lot less competition than videos) and movie quality videos (but you must have some knowledge also about compositing and color grading) I'm focused on motion design (2d and 3d) and scientific/medical animation. Time will tell

I sell vector stock illustrations and I have been doing it as full time job for years now. I think now there is much more competition than few years ago as the numbers of contributors keeps growing, but you can surely give it a try. I am learning about animation now as I think in the future it will be more requested. I think to get a good result you need to focus on it full time for some months at least, you cant expect to have immediate results.
where do you live?
I agree, videos (especially motion graphics and cg animation) will be the stars in the next years! Obviously they will not stand forever but it's part of this business.."adapt or die" (third option...complain) PS ciao Elena, sono Luca

I know asking for what you shoot is a touchy subject. But for the ones that have been doing it full time what things have worked for you apart from finding an absolutely amazing niche to specialize in? What have you automated, are you employing people, what ways of ideation?
Hi, the only things that work for me are: 1) constant uploads 2) raise the quality bar Some years ago i wrote a little tool for keywording. It's a crap piece of code, full of bugs, but i use it everyday to speedup the process. I work alone (i refused some collaboration proposals). Usually i start with a concept and i try to find new ways to illustrate it, nothing special

Pond5 is a low earner for me...about 100/150 $/month But it's slowly increasing, so i have some hope. Time will tell...

I totally agree with you and that's been my experience of creatives in my 15 years at Adobe. You're not wrong. If you're honest about always trying to improve and don't get stuck in one style (very easy to do in motion design), then you'll always be in demand. Stick with it and hopefully Stock is a part of your revenue stream.
Cheers, Dennis
Hi Dennis, your words are like a RedBull for me! Pure energy! And yes, i like to explore different styles, 2d flat design, isometric, realistic 3d... and always trying new ways to communicate concepts and ideas. I especially love After Effects, such a powerful tool, and with plugins like Stardust, Plexus, Element3d (to name a few)... Well, the sky is the limit! Thanks for your kind words!

i'm always searching for alternatives. But my main goal is to become better and better in what i like to do, 3d and motion design As i've already said, a talented artist will always find a job (hope i'm not wrong)

Not sure about that with todays pricing.
Yes, pricing isn't low, but i don't see alternatives. Here in Italy you cannot bury your dear in the garden, so you have to follow the law

why shocked?= video is the next dead thing...or people believe to live all life earning a lot per video sales, with a couple thousand video? everybody is shooting video, bigger producer from eastern europe are moving their production towards video...soon there will be the same saturation and the same price for video as was photo. milk till it last is my suggestion don't hope to earn the same, if not producing thousand and thousand of video per year....and the fact that a super company like hotel is struggling, they make a site where they give all collection for penny if i remember correctly, and move all new production to cheaper drone content should tell those who believe video will be immune from the downward trend. no it's not immune and price soon will collapse to a bunch of dollar per download.
Only funeral homes will stay forever. As i said on another thread, if you want to survive in this business, you need high quality work, and to be prepared to adapt to the changes of the market. BTW i love your positive attitude

is it worth it? for me, not... My illustrations and 3d render don't sell well on Alamy, maybe i'm not the target of their customers. They don't accept videos, so i'm thinking to stop uploading and move on...maybe i'll submit to their 'stokimo' platform, just for fun

Why is anyone still uploading there?
These rates are an insult
Because, despite the rates, they are still 25% of my income. And do you have suggestions for sites that are going to make me more money than that? I see people saying all the time that they are no longer going to upload to iStock/Getty, Shutterstock, etc. Those are my biggest earners after Adobe. Unless someone knows of some secret site that is making a ton of money, why leave the biggest earning sites?
I absolutely agree with you!!!

The rates are indeed an insult. However, like most of us, I do microstock for a profit, so I have a look at the numbers.
In terms of revenue, IS is the second highest earner. In terms of RPI, it's the first, ex-aequo with SS. In terms of RPD, it fluctuates, but it's usually the second or the third, after Alamy and SS.
So, yes, I have the feeling IS is taking a lot from me, and that the way they treat us is outrageous. However, there are some financial reasons explaining why I'm staying... more or less the same reasons that push me to have a main job where I'm not very well treated...
same for me +1
This is very sad to read that you guys keep job that your are not very well treated... ! Those company won't stop to act like that if your stay, for financial reason only. You deserved better. Everybody deserved better.
Busisness choices. it's all about business and moneys. I agree, i deserve better...if you know how to achieve it, please, let me know. iI'm on my 56, freelancer since 1991, but i'm ready to learn something new! Feel free to give some good advice!
