In the news, still up for debate.
Just seen this, could be useful for finding images that have been used to train AI. Not sure I would want to upload, unless it can use low res, or watermarked images. https://haveibeentrained.com/
That's what I was looking for this morning. LAION-5B, an open, publically available dataset of 5.8B image-text pairs and validate it by reproducing results of training state-of-the-art CLIP models of different scale.
https://laion.ai/blog/laion-5b/
"We distribute the metadata dataset (the parquet files) under the Creative Common CC-BY 4.0 license, which poses no particular restriction. The images are under their copyright."
completely false - CC license specifically says credit must be given to the creator among SEVERAL other restrictions AND images they use need to be under CC license themselves (unlikely for billions of images) or similar where owner grants such permission while retaining the copyright "Adapted Material means material subject to Copyright and Similar Rights that is derived from or based upon the Licensed Material and in which the Licensed Material is translated, altered, arranged, transformed, or otherwise modified in a manner requiring permission under the Copyright and Similar Rights held by the Licensor. For purposes of this Public License, where the Licensed Material is a musical work, performance, or sound recording, Adapted Material is always produced where the Licensed Material is synched in timed relation with a moving image."https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcodefinally they haven't made any changes, just made a compilation. and they are required to credit the licensor for each image: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Attribution. If You Share the Licensed Material (including in modified form), You must:
retain the following if it is supplied by the Licensor with the Licensed Material: identification of the creator(s) of the Licensed Material and any others designated to receive attribution, in any reasonable manner requested by the Licensor (including by pseudonym if designated)
- a copyright notice;
- a notice that refers to this Public License;
- a notice that refers to the disclaimer of warranties;
- a URI or hyperlink to the Licensed Material to the extent reasonably practicable;
- indicate if You modified the Licensed Material and retain an indication of any previous modifications;
- indicate the License
listed Material is licensed under this Public License, and include the text of, or the URI or hyperlink to, this Public License.[/color] <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

... I guess the designer charges by the column and page. Really awful. ...
and it's been all too common on websites to skip alpha regression testing and make the users unwitting beta testers (like asking for a phone number and counting the backspace as a character when you mistype)

Interesting, with a bit of auto filtering and some adjustments it might be useful for large batch keywording... thanks
you do have to careful as the AI doesn't always realize some facts need to be linked. this is especially true with dates that get switched as if they were just adjectives. today i asked for description of 'Roots of Heaven' and it switched the roles of Trevor Howard & Errol Flynn but overall it's been a real timesaver for more generic summaries

What Pete said - except fix the math. More like .28 cents and 1 cent per image.
If it was linear (and it isn't) that means if you can get 3 more images accepted you will make less than one more cent in a month.
yet another example of why RPI is of little use - RPI may be small, but RPD ignores the size of the portfolio and shows actual income. my RPI for SS is tiny, but RPD has been between .4 & .7 over last year, with average of .5 however, RPD can also be deceiving - my RPD for AS averages .7 but is steaduly only 50% of SS actual income

I'd had AI images accepted before the new requirements. i submitted several images yesterday with the combined tags from the 2 posts and they were accepted.
still wondering if frequently photographed landmarks like taj mahal are acceptable, when no release needed for photographs

Don't forget to tell it to rank them in some sort of order.
These machine learning programs are pretty amazing - but if everyone uses them, everyone will have the same keywords - which the machine learning programs will see and the circle will be complete.
And the same problem with the suggested keywords from the agencies and their AI version of what buyers want.
ChatGPT AI, I'm going to try it. Then take the best words and keep them and remove some of the less useful ones, in my opinion, because... Less Is More. More related and more specific that is.
there've been several articles on chatGPT in the ny times & i was about to try it later today the keyword idea is great chatGPT performs well when I pass its results thru a plagiarism checker it's helping me set up background info for my africa blogs so i can concentrate on our actual safari heres what i got for " explain geology of Ngorongoro Crater" The Ngorongoro Crater is a large, inactive, and unfilled volcanic caldera located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the Arusha Region of Tanzania. The caldera was formed by the collapse of the volcano that created the crater about two to three million years ago. The walls of the crater are steep, rising 610 meters (2,000 feet) from the crater floor, and the floor of the crater is about 260 square kilometers (100 square miles) in area. The crater is home to a wide variety of animals, including lions, hyenas, elephants, and zebras. The unique geology of the Ngorongoro Crater, along with its abundance of wildlife, has made it a popular tourist destination.

... They know much more than shutterstock or others. It would be really strange to think that they don't know and cannot disinguish an AI image from others....
how would they do that? the final result is a jpg there is a comment in the iptc that says 'h OpenAI' but that is easily deleted.

I am not as active in MicroStock business since SS change the payment rates in 2019... anyway sometimes I still upload some pics and I also get a floor incoming from my previous work...
Anyway, I am considering creating a new company within USA being non-resident.
I just want to ask, did my old SS and DreamsTime US tax payer status make this process more complicated? After all, I am a tax payer within USA.
In the other hand, I always have two different forms, one for DreamsTime and one for SS, this was ok?? Or should I see the way to use the same number and same forms for both agencies??
you'll need to check with the IRS website for details on any changes but old statements shouldn't matter - you would just report the 1099 you receive for current tax year not sure which 'number' you're referring to

there're some confusing stds listed: 2 very different requirements for tagging: https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/generative-ai-content.htmlDo: Specify that these depictions are fictitious and generated https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/generative-ai-faq.htmlTag your generative AI content to help customers find it: Titles should include the phrase, in English, "Generative AI" - Example title: Beautiful landscape. Generative AI. Keywords should include the English phrase "Generative AI" as well as "Generative" and "AI" in the language you are submitting your assets. - Example keywords: Landscape, No People, Generative AI, Generative, AI. so tags have to include all these: fictitious, generated ,"Generative AI" , "Generative" , "AI" ?? ----------------------------- "Dont tag generative AI content with real place names." what is considered specific? castle in Wales, Everest, Taj Mahal, Matterhorn?? --------------- I submitted "Imaginary ancient Egyptian papyrus of Horus from the Book of the Dead - original CGI illustration " rejected saying it needed a property release - i questioned & was told to re-submit, but concerned next reviewer would still reject

That is a good question. You know what you have used for training each type of object (downloaded and fed to AI training system). I would assume it is going to be connected with keywords and training sets for them.
ML doesnt train for specific objects. for generic ai generators we've been discussing, there's only 1 dataset and the original images are not stored there are other ML apps that are much more specific (but not for art) - eg medical apps

The whole point is to get rid of artists, a major expense for AdobeStock. What I don't understand is who they think will be subscribing to their software when we are all out of business. Ironic that it's Getty and SS that seem to be at least a bit concerned with the ramifications.
i havent seen them considering anything other than the copyright questions on the training sets -- SS is accepting AI art made with their database

I am not sure but should we be happy or sad? With AI content being accepted, it has opened doors for maximum non-qualified people to upload the assets.
Where are we artist now?
if their work is accepted, how are they non-qualified? what makes you an 'artist' and not them? early photograpy was rejected by 'real artists' it's evolution in action

... What I wanted to highlight is the fact that a contributor should be eligible for a commision every time when the image created with that topic is sold. ...
how would you decide from the generator phrase which images among millions were used in the training set? eg "penguin in a top hat walking on mars' once training is done, no images are actually accessed during the creation of AI images

I was shooting for a book cover, so wanted some creative focus on the goods. Also liked the man's shadow on the right, so was aiming to include his shadow there as he could be part of the story (the man who aggressively approached me within a few seconds of taking that pic). Was shooting with a Nikon D800 with the 24mm Tilt-Shift.
Yes, he could have been selling stolen goods, I suppose that may explain his (over)reaction. ...
in the case of the shoes, who knows? but often folk at street fairs don't want their products photographed for fear of their ideas being stolen. especially i non-western countries, i always try to get consent - just pointing to my camera & abiding by their decision. it works for shop owners in bazaars, etc - i often get better images when someone poses. in india i once had a woman whose picture i'd just taken then take me to the other stalls in the small street market & getting their pictures taken. it was before cell phones, so i arranged to send prints to the local police station.

Correct, the image has moved from the last to the first position in my portfolio today. In my opinion December 1st is extremely late to push christmas images!
so now, those who previously had top placements can complain their images are being pushed back! throughout this period hundreds of xmas images were getting 1st page placement, so your gain is their loss

... The software does not share your earnings and they are stored on your computer locally. So you keep all your information private unless you want to share print-screens of your graphs etc.
if not already there, many post graphs without actual $ figures to show trends also- where does buyer metadata come from? - the where used data could be very useful

Another question: I can only filter for "fresh images" and "top images" within my own portfolio. Do you actually get the possibility to filter by "most popular" within your own portfolio?
that's for image portfolio for portfolio/catalog manager you get the other choices

I wondered if the images were intentionally pushed back and would then be brought forward at an appropriate tine, but it seems somewhat late for that to happen.
At least that's what happened last year, so I expect the same to happen again. I do not remember the exat date, but they were pushed forward sometime in December, and pushed back again in January.
I agree it's late. I have been selling lots of Christmas images through the whole month, so the demand is there much earlier than December.
none of my xmas images are on the last 5 pages of my 'most popular' in addition, advertisers buy xmas images in sep or earlier to meet deadlines

... Another issue I have with the downranking images of editorial images that are older than a month/a year. With some that makes sense, but many editorial images don't lose relevance after a month, or even a year. I have an image from a climate change protest that I submitted maybe 3 years ago that still keeps selling, though it keeps selling less and less over time. The topic isn't any less relavant now than it was 3 years ago and the image has not lost any of its usefulness. So it would gain 3% for "current topic", but lose 20% after just a month and another 10% after a year. Doesn't make sense to me.
a larger issue is 'editorial' is not only 'newsworthy' - it applies to any image lacking needs property or model releases and a silly one - a depiction of a Nov 30 event would be penalized if submitted Dec 1 finally 'editorial only' isn't even used in most cases since most agencies mark editorial images.

... What is the size of your video portfolio? How many videos do you sell per year? You probably did not know, but adobe takes into its free collection only the video that has not been sold even once in the last year. Perhaps you want to say that all your videos are sold within a year. Which I highly doubt.
amazing Chutzpah! you demand from others what you refuse to supply! What is the size of your video portfolio? How many videos do you sell per year?

.. If you just want to deduct your equipment from taxes, you should not need any expensive consulting.. It's pretty simple: ...
i maintain 3 xls workbook (USA) expenses.xls consolidated.xls which tracks income & costs (postage, hosting, etc) for amazon, ebay & photos each of these has a 1 row summary at end of the year i just copy those 2 lines to 2022taxes.xls and moves individual figures to their appropriate places on the 1040 tax form

In the netherlands you can deduct cost below 450 euros at once, any amount higher has to be deducted over several years. If you earn less than 1000 euros (per month if I'm right) I recommend not starting your own business as your earnings are being seen as side earnings from a hobby. (But in this case you cannot deduct any equipment cost)....
in the US one of the req's is that the business shows a profit at some point, regardless of actual sales amount https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/earning-side-income-is-it-a-hobby-or-a-business

... ... As for taxes, and like everyone else says, you'll need to consult someone who knows the local laws.
Contrary to what someone else wrote, you can't deduct equipment, at least not in the US. You depreciate the equipment over a period of time. I don't know your laws or the UK laws.
Equipment youll use for more than a yearincluding cameras, lenses, lighting, light boxes, filters, tripods, computers, and hard drivescounts as capital expenses. Each year you can deduct a portion of the cost of capital expenses over their useful life....
in the US if you use cash accting as small business can deduct gear at full price in the year purchased. ymmv
