I just started uploading there, mostly video and a few images. It does not look very exciting so far, finger crossed...

Thanks for the short and clear answer. Tell me please, do you think that I lose time with Videobloks?
Hi Stephan. I don't think you lose your time in VB. You will get some sales and at least $50 for each sale, which is very good, although their business model is a bit worrying... And regarding views, VB doesn't supply any statistics about views unfortunately. Good luck!

I agree with a lot of people: Excellent March, and nothing this week, really scary. But I am used to it: agencies always shut the tap for at least one week every month, especially SS. Even more scary is that so far this year practically all my sales in SS come from a single fie (I have a bit less than 2,000, video only). Not that I am complaining, because sales in February and March have been goo, but all of them coming from a single file in SS is a bit scary
You mean they stop people buying images? Seems a rather odd thing to do. Maybe its just chance variation or seasonal factors lets see how people react when easter hits.
I don't know what they do, but certainly there are very strange things happening. For six months in a row I had always the exactly same amount of sales in SS, to make it easy let's say $500 a month. Sometimes I got to $500 at the 12th of the month, so I would think: "great, this is going to be a fantastic month". But then not one single sale until the end of the month. Other times I would get absolutely nothing at the beginning of the month for 2 weeks, not a single sale, so getting pretty depressed. Then the last 10 days sales falling like crazy, and same huge $150 sales, until I get to my allotted monthly total. I am not complaining because sales are not bad, maybe they are doing it to make everyone happy and maybe it works very well. But as I said even more scary is that this year (I mean the last 3 months) 98% of my sales are coming from the same single file, over and over again. It makes you question what is the point to upload more stuff. I am talking about video only. For still images (which apparently is what most peaople do here) things may be totally different

What about a Circassian chicken eating a beautyful business woman? Even more niche :-)

Are all of you using Prores on a Mac, or is there a way to have it on windows?
Yes, there is ProResConverter AE script for windows!
Many thanks for the info. I'll check this out immediately

Hi Guys,
Often people complain about having more files rejected at one agency rather than another, but I bet none of you have had the most ridiculous results that I have just had:
I uploaded 1,000 photos to the 2 top agencies. Istock rejected 2, and accepted 998 Shutterstock rejected 994, and accepted 6
This is truly the most ridiculous thing I have ever come across whilst dealing with any agency. Absolutely nothing can justify or explain in any logical way these differences in numbers. Nothing.
Anybody brave enough to try...?
Good luck.
J.
I would resubmit in small batches

Reviews for still image are just totally random, while in video I get about 97% accepted and the only ones refused are for copyright infringement.
Sometimes image reviews make for excellent laughs: The first batch of 50 photo I submitted a couple of years ago have about half that sell regularly, some of them very well at SS. The other half are complete turkeys. When I submitted them to another agency guess what? Every single one of the turkeys was accepted, every single one of the good sellers refused. Once I was asked for a model release for a plate of paella (maybe because the prawns were "king"). At another agency I used to get all the food images containing meat refused, then I realised that the reviewer was vegan. Another refused several ones for dust spots, I had to reply: "those are called birds, they are animals that fly. Something like airplanes, but much smaller"

I was exclusive there for years! I had enough lies and attitude. I still have my work there but do not upload any new content to them at this time. If they change their ways then sure I would.
Interesting. Since you stopped being exclusive did you notice a change in the number of sales at istock, or just lower percentage?

Submitting Video to istock? "nien nien nein nein nien nein" A.Hitler; Inglourious Basterds.
Thank you for your input. Could you develop your thought a bit?

Sales are strangely on the up at istock since the middle of last year although the royalties I sometimes get for my clips on Getty can range from $400+ to $1 I even had a few for $0.20 for old Vetta clips which were meant to have been the 'creme de la creme'. The tiny royalties seem to be increasing month on month too which is a little worrying.
I'm not really uploading new footage due to the tiny royalty rates 20% mixed with the cheap sale prices.
So if I were thinking of joining now I'm not sure what to think? You'll get downloads but at a much cheaper rate than the other main players. It's almost like Video Hive now.
Very interesting input, thank you. Well, according to their website, Envato (Videohive) doesn't seem to be interested in video footage anymore. There is a 4 months waiting line for footage, apparently they are concentrating in other kind of content.

I removed any videos I had on iStock, mostly because of the low commissions. But indeed, the uploading process, recent platform changes and artist treatment is another good bunch of reasons to never upload video there again.
Why even consider it?
Well, apparently everyone and his dog seem to be uploading there, even though they discourage other people from doing it. So, the new changes have affected negatively video as well? I never said I am considering it, although there are very few places to work with in video

I have seen tons of huge threads regarding istock in the last few months. I have tried to follow a few, but they are extremely long and deal at 99% with still images, a topic I am not very interested in. I get extremely confused with this agency which apparently changes everything all the time and try to make things as hard as possible. I would like to know how video is affected by all these changes. Is there anyone doing video uploading there?
I have always refused to upload there because of the extremely low commissions, the complexity of the uploading, the constant idiotic changes and even the tone of their email, where they seem to treat artists very badly

BME by a good margin. I do video only, but this month I started to upload a few still image extracted from footage and timelapses. I did not bother with still images so far, but they seem to sell much better than I expected, although too soon to tell

I practically do only video (just starting to upload a few images very recently) so things may be different.
I have absolutely no doubt that there is a sale control at SS, even though I do not complain about my sales. - Every months I have at least 10 days when the gates are closed, I mean zero downloads, and a couple of weeks with huge sales - For 4 to 6 months I get to the same exactly total in dollars. Sometimes I get there before the middle of the months, in that case the gates close and I don't get one single download until the end of the month - Sometimes I start the month with 10 days of zero sales, but then I sell a lot (often with very high priced sales) until I get to my allocated total - In the weeks of good sales, a very broad range of files sell. In the bad weeks all my sales come from the same single file (which represent 50% of my sales, with a portfolio of almost 2,000 video) - Apparently so far my allotted sales are revised every 4-5 months, so that I then get to a slightly higher level
I must add that I have been in this game for less than 2 years, so I don't have a big deal of well established files

I just downloaded the trial version to test it, because I am very interested in this software. Sadly the program does not load and I get the message: "could not load file or assembly System. Windows. Forms"
Please try removing .NET Framework and installing it from the official website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53345
I don't know how to remove it. I can install the app from the link you sent, but I have Windows 10. Will it work?

Is there a way to see the number of views for your own still images in SS? I know that it is not available for video, but I seem to remember that this stat used to be available for photos

They are too busy actually producing images to spend time on this forum
I enjoy doing it a lot. I am almost making a living out of it (I live in England, if I decide to go back to the old country, Italy, I could live very well with it) and I have only been doing it for less than two years. I am busy producing images 4 days a week, but there are also those two days a week when I am post processing files, keywording and uploading. This is when I go on forums

Processing web uploaded images 123RF fails for some hours already (from the Netherlands). Am I the only one?
It happens very often. You need just to cross your fingers and start again. Very annoying

Don't know about Videoblocks, it always had a very strange pattern of sales. My best month there was the first one when I only had 100 files there. I constantly increased my portfolio almost 2000 files, but sales have been always the same number every month. The files that sell there are the worst of my portfolio, the ones I am a bit ashamed of. Also no file ever sold more than once, while in other agencies two or three files make more than half of my total sales. In other words sales at VB always looked kind of fake to me

For me SS has always been by far my number one. Pond 5 is not a major player for me, but this month has been doing decently. Videoblock missing in action

Proper and careful keywording is never a waste of time. It's the most important thing you can do if you want to maximize sales. It's more important than content.
Different agencies have different search engines that prioritize different things. I want to have full control over the metadata for each agency, and they're not identical. Yes, it takes more time, but my clips can also be found.
Maximizing exposure at VB, P5, Fotolia, SS and VH is not done in the same way.
---
Just as a side note, not really related to your issue, but I've seen so many clips with poor keywording that it's scary (like London clips without "England" anywhere to be seen in the keywords/description). Of course, it's good for me since the competition disappears, but still...
I agree perfectly on the importance of keywording, but my question relates to the upload. I was asking if after uploading a series of files with LR the keywords and titles should automatically be populated on each agency from LR metadata, or if I have to do it manually. For London there is a specific problem: should you use England, or UK, or United Kingdom, or Britain, or Great Britain, or who knows what after Brexit :-)
