Congrats Tina, you wont regret it, I believe!

852
Yeah, I had four. And the one who earned me 30+$ ended sometime in April .So I just missed the extension:-( I guess he has a good future.
From the other three only one has images, nice images, but only three. with one dld. However, I am happy DT changed it. It certainly is nice especially for Leaf I guess, becuase he got a lot of referrals.

853
Hey good news fintastique, they just changed the referal thing from 6month to 3 years! here is the link: http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_7180

For what it's worth, Professorgb, I'm right there with you.

But whatever we view this site as, I agree that we should try and be polite and respectful to those around us.

Can't help but agree there. There are ways, though, to present potentially inflammatory subjects that you haven't explored. May I suggest this as a beginning?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_to_Win_Friends_and_Influence_People

The topics entitled "Twelve Ways to Win People to Your Way of Thinking" and "Nine Ways to Change People Without Giving Offense or Arousing Resentment" may be of particular interest to you.

Sharply_Do, there is great wisdom in these points. And with most I whole heartedly agree. If you behave in this way towards people, you really will be successfull I believe. These days people are getting offended so quickly in any way.  The thing is, no one behaves perfectly and even if someone acts theoretically "perfectly", people get offend by different worldviews or just misunderstandings.
So the principle "I treat you as you treat me" is doomed to failure to create a peaceful atmosphere. And that applies in all areas in life.  And I believe that is why some conflicts will never stop, because the parties feel it is not fair to not pay the other person back.
If we feel being treated as idots by DT, should we treat DT the same way? (By the way I personally do not feel treated as an idiot by DT). I would say no. It won't help anybody at all.
J-E-S-U-S (was changed into jeepers??? after I posted) told us, love your enemy, and he lived it. In him is the greatest power of peace within us and between us and others.
However, does it mean we should not critize and let people trample on us? No way, sometime we openly have to show the other one where he is wrong.
But in a loving and kind way. Treat others as you would like them to treat you. A way to do this is to use some of the ways sharply_do pointed out with his link. Also as the link directs, think about your mistakes and admit them first, before you judge.

Hopefully I have not offended anyone.

Cheers, Jan

Congrats thats a great image! If you do not mind would you tell as how much dls/week that image has? I am just curious how good this kind of images sell on SS. Its not a vector right?

CJPhoto, isnt CS2 or CS cheaper and they should be better than E5. Here is a link which might help you in your decision. It is about E5 and CS2, but I guess there is not so much difference to CS3 or is there?http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/photoshop/f/elementscompare.htm

Since I have E2 too, my question is, is it worth the money to invest in CS2 if lets say you monthly income on Mircrostock is between 500 and 1000$ and you spend about 5 hours a week on Photoshop.

859
Great idea, I will think about it.
How long are the chapters? How much time would you estimate for a week, with a little trying out. I just have Photoshop Elements 2.0, is that enough?

Many of you realize now that DT lied, but are stating that you don't care.  After all, doesn't someone like this deserve this?

Well, in my opinion, NO.  There are plenty of people who have built up their portfolios by following the rules implemented by the site.  Why should one or two people be treated special?

And if you do think they deserve this, then where do you draw the line?

Would you think it was OK if DT gave them a higher royalty without requiring them to go exclusive?  How about a 75% royalty?  Or higher?

Would you think it was OK if DT modified the Best Match sort order to include their images on the first page?

Would you think it was OK if DT didn't require them to have subscription sales?

Would you think it was OK if DT didn't require them to lock in their images for 6 months?

So if they deserve something extra, the question becomes how much extra?  Where do you draw the line?

And how is that fair to the other members on the site that don't get these special treatments?

On top of that, my guess is that a number of rules were broken in this case.  Not only was the 40 image/day rule broken, but so were other rules.

First, I'll bet that the images were reviewed faster.  While the rest of us wait 10-12 days or more for our images to get reviewed, their images probably only took a few days.

Second, I'll bet that his images got a higher acceptance ratio than most of us would have gotten with the same images.  While most of us receive silly rejections, their images slid through the queue a little easier.

Third, their images might have been keyworded for free.  Iofoto's images are on both DT and LO, and they seem to have different keywords on both sites.  For example, compare the keywords on this image between the two sites:

http://www.luckyoliver.com/photo/1227139/spike_the_english_bulldog_wearing_lei_and

http://www.dreamstime.com/bulldogwearingpartyhat.-image2044530

It seems unlikely that someone would re-keyword thousands of images for each site.

Finally, we are all paying DT (via the royalty that they receive) to be our agent.  While it is their website, the sales of our images make it possible for them to have a website and a nice salary.  They care be treating us with disdain.  After all, we helped build up their company.  They care cast aside those that helped them get to the top.

Yeah its ok I would say, its their company.
So if they decide to have favourites its ok, it might be a bad descision, because others might leave the company, but its their company, they are not criminal by having favourites. Iophoto has amazing images, I totally can understand if DT chooses to help him a little bit. I do not mind at all, that is business.
Wether they are lying or not I am not sure, you can read it out of Achilles post if you desperately want to, however, he said "..they only can submit the max amount AT THIS TIME.." He did not say how it was in the beginning.
If you think they broke any agreement which you made by signing up on DT, why then don't you sue them? If they are such a bad company why do you not leave them?
I am happy with them, they try to make bsuiness with my images and I get money I otherwise would not get. If you do not feel that way.. why do you make business with them?

« on: April 11, 2007, 12:47 »
Somehow I allmost never have rejection because of noise anymore, my good old D60  ;), however, weired things are happening to me, probably coincidence. If I submit one image at a time, which I have a done a lot the last months, it allmost never gets rejected, when I upload more, most times I have a really high rejection rate.
Yesterday 10 out of 10 were rejected!
Today 1 out of 1 was accepted.
Maybe they have pity on me, when I have only time to upload one image..
I guess in future I will go one by one...

Probably DT is working on it. It is a long review time, however I think it is great that Ellen Boughn showed up. Hopefully she will still show by some times. I guess even if DT is not everyones favourite site, the most of us would wellcome her to this forum.
And I think the people who work for DT have better things to do than to check out every forum for a bad comment over DT to then reject 100% of the next submission of the person who made the bad comment.
Overall I tend to agree with Professorgb.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Trads v. Micros Article
« on: April 04, 2007, 13:32 »
Yes, interesting articles.  Thanks for posting.

Interested that FT sold 4 million images last year.  That's very low considering the headline image numbers. ...

Ft might have sold less, I do not trust them anymore on their numbers.

Here is an article also including an interesting number: http://news.com.com/iStockphoto+sees+new+rivals+everywhere/2008-1025_3-6173039.html?tag=st.num

that is istockphoto has a download every 2,5 sec. That means 12614400 downloads in a year. Take that number times 4 or something and thats what they might make in a year.
With approximately 1 590 000 images online the average is about 7,9 dls/year per image. If you are below that number you are below the average sales with you images and if you are above then you are above the average sales per image.
Just thought that might be interesting, I love statistics  :)

Yeah I do not get the 50% or more too. Maybe we should inform Ft, that they have a bug in their system and we only get 33% instead as we should get: 50% or more  ;) We can send them the quote of their president  ;D

They still seem to stick to their too high number of images on their site..

For their age I would say they are quite good, but I do not like it at all that they are so dishonest.

Fitting to this article here is another link I found by following endicotts link: http://rising.blackstar.com/getty-photographers-pessimistic-about-the-future-5.html

MyLoupe rejected me too, I uploaded some sample pics, one of my best penguin pics with some other work. Apparently they didn't like it.. However not a big loss for me when I hear about the earnings potential. Saves me some work..

I do not have a problem with the 100$ payout too.
I think it might help LO to get on their feet. I agree with Leaf, it might help us in the end to get our money quicker. We want LO to be successfull, don't we? Otherwise why did we upload photos there?
From the beginning it was our risk to invest our work to upload. Didn't we knew the payout limit? If LO wont be successful, we lost a little work, if it will be successful we will win, because we were on this site long before the many others photographers who will go there, when they see it is successfull.
I am personally not a fan how they design the site, yet it is creative and nice and it shows, they have ideas. But if I want images I would go to DT or IS, not only because of quantity and quality of images.  However that might be my personal taste and I wish them success and I like their friendliness and how they motivate photographers with their comments to the uploaded pics (great work there!)
Just a thought, no offense to the other opinions..

Off Topic / Re: Business idea, what to do?
« on: March 21, 2007, 06:40 »
Thanks for all your input!
And thank you Bryan for your offer!
Leaf talked about the idea of creating a stock photography coop, which I think would be a great way to put that business idea into practice.
Now he created a thread, where people who are interested in creating a coop can take part in discussion about my idea or in general also about other ideas to create a coop.
Maybe something will come out of this.

Whoever is potentially interested in taking part in such a coop can tell Leaf or post it here I guess, so he gets access to that thread.
