GLStock / Re: Leaf time to delete GL
« on: November 01, 2021, 10:56 »
Hi Leaf could you remove GL from the Microstock Poll Results

Some people seem to be submitting sales revenues which is clearly impossible seeing as they closed down.

Likewise both Cutcaster and Stockfresh are both gone but can still be voted for in the monthly poll.

Alamy.com / PA to move all photography to the Alamy platform
« on: August 27, 2020, 12:21 »
News article today on Photo Archive News: https://photoarchivenews.com/news/press-association-moving-all-photo-assets-to-a-single-platform-alamy/

Whether this is good news for Alamy contributors, bad news, or will make no difference we will have to wait and see.

Russian microstock community reports:  250000 portfolio by Paul Smith just disabled.

Quarter of a million celebrity images gone in one click. Way to go Paul :)

UK based Photo Archive News (PAN) website reports on stock agencies/libraries. They already ran a piece about Shutterstock changing their payment structure.

News items to: [email protected]

How about a Twitter campaign where everyone posts photos, videos and illustrations that are #NoLongerOnShutterstock ? You could include a link to where the work is still available.

This would allow many more people to get involved, because you dont have to close your account or turn your port off, just delete one item. Imagine if thousands of people did this all on the same day.

A variation on your idea Michele - I thought I'd start a nice little Show and Tell thread on the Shutterstock forums. Twitter to follow. All my 2610 images opted out this morning.

They actually do accept

Images and videos that are newsworthy, timely, and depict real people, events, places and products.

If we don't have press credentials it is another story, right?

That's a partnership deal they have with Reuters. Regular contributors (us) cannot currently submit editorial images - other than the very restricted Illustrative Editorial (product type images with no people allowed).

Seems like we can't trust Shutterstock anymore..
Adobe still has fair commissions

Agreed here. Also, not just illustrative editorial but open up to editorial with people for both stills and video.

With you on this for stills. I'm always surprised that they leave so much money on the table by not taking regular editorial images. It would be a great time for them to launch this given there are so many contributors currently feeling #shaftedbyshutterstock. It wouldn't even take much beyond three simple steps:

I) Add an Editorial Use tickbox on the submission page

2) Add Editorial Use only wording on the buyers page

3) Tell their reviewers that editorial images do not require model/property releases

See, I just launched it for them. We just need them to action it now.....

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is this a stock agency?
« on: January 04, 2020, 14:57 »
Freeart is an affiliate of Canstock. Read more here https://www.microstockgroup.com/canstockphoto-com/exciting-announcement/
From memory (may be wrong) but GoGraph is a Dreamstime partner. Regards, David.

Good idea Pete - just done it. They still get votes on the earnings poll because if you ever uploaded images there (and didn't realise they are gone) you would put them down as zero earnings when filling in the poll each month. Kind regards, David.

By the way on the right have a lot which do not meet this requirement, some of them even do not exist anymore (Macrografiks, PhotoSpin.. )

Add ViscoImages and Stockami to the list of defunct agencies that are still listed on the right and in the monthly poll page. Hopefully, Tyler can remove these when he has a few spare minutes.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Anyone Using The Dreamstime Mobile App?
« on: October 11, 2019, 14:26 »
As part of their recent site revamp they removed the views count citing it was a drain on server resources. Here's a thread on the DT forum about it: https://www.dreamstime.com/thread_50968

Very few sites have a views count anyway - it's the sales that matter :)

Thanks Mat. I'll just keep hoping then! Kind regards, David.

Thanks for the update Mat. I have a few editorial images with street scenes or beaches where there are people in the background. This is an example:

It's not focusing on a person, but there are unreleased people. Is this allowed or not? I did read the information page, but the one disallowed example just showed one highly visible (though out of focus) person, so I wasn't sure.

No, unfortunately we wouldn't be able to accept that shot because of the recognizable people. The disallowed example was a shot I took of my Daughter to illustrate that even though she is out of focus she would still be considered recognizable and the image can't be approved at Adobe Stock.

Mat - nobody seems to be asking the obvious question, so I will. Is Illustrative Editorial (with no recognisable people) the full extent to which Adobe is going to allow editorial images? Many of us were hoping for editorial on Fotolia/Adobe for a long time but were thinking of parades/street scenes/music festivals etc (all with plenty of unreleased people in them) which many other agencies accept. Is this something we can expect in the future? Kind regards, David.

Site Related / Re: Leaf, cant move spam to garbage
« on: March 07, 2019, 14:21 »
Add to the above I couldn't submit monthly poll vote either. Tried twice and it just took me back to an unfilled page for February. Obviously a few site issues tonight.

Just talked to someone at Adobe, they are reading this thread and seems like they are listening to the concerns posted here ...that's a breath of fresh air. hopefully Adobe Stock (contributor) Portal will evolve to a lean & mean insight machine for all of us contributors.

If Adobe are reading this they should now that their Uploaded Files submission page is very buggy especially if you multi select files.

The 'Recognizable people or property?' buttons are not working properly. They work great the first time and then they break. Even when 'No' is already selected you have to click on 'Yes' and then 'No' again.

The 'Auto Keywords' always messes up when you multi select. It adds auto keywords whether you want them or not. It does not remember any keywords the file may already have.

Got caught by this too. With a single image the auto keywords came up and I just deleted them and pasted in my correct set. When I multi selected several images I didn't see any auto words appear and just added mine and submitted not knowing the auto words were there. Which is why I now have Greek island images pending with handy keywords such as Turkey and Jordan! I'm hoping data can be amended if accepted? What I really want is a way to just permanently disable that auto keyword feature. Anyone found if that's possible? Experienced keyworders probably don't need or want it and new people (who might find it useful) are poorly served by having random (wrong) countries ascribed to their images.

That said, I actually liked the upload page and found the process simple and intuitive (auto words apart).

Newbie Discussion / Re: Direct contact from a customer?
« on: February 03, 2019, 06:56 »
Maybe it works differently for photographs, I am an illustrator and I got several custom work requests through shutterstock (I put my e-mail in my profile description).

I don't do any other marketing, no website or FB or insta just a twitter account for doing automated tweets whenever I had work accepted. Some customers also contacted me through that.

Hi, how did you manage to connect twitter for automated tweets? Can't find it in the profile. Thanks!

It doesn't work anymore. There used to be this option on SS to set up automated tweets or fB posts, for accepted images, or sales. I think it stopped working a couple of years ago.

More like six years ago!

Got a payout last October and then manually deleted my (mainly editorial) 2400 images before asking them to close my account. Commission cuts, low sales and images pending review forever made them not worth the bother. Shame, a few years back they were a decent selling, fair paying, mid tier agency which I was happy to support.

It's a partner deal with Canstock. You get commission on print and product sales or a 25c subscription sale for the 10x8 free prints that FreeArt offers. Here is the thread from when it was first announced http://www.microstockgroup.com/canstockphoto-com/exciting-announcement/ . Anyone that has no intention of selling direct through an art site like FineArt America may welcome the extra (potential) sales. Otherwise you can ask to be opted out of the deal (I did and they did it promptly). Regards, David.

Shutterstock.com / Re: eBay T-Shirts what kind of license?
« on: December 13, 2018, 14:36 »
From what I understand from here it requires an enhanced image license.

It certainly looks like an Enhanced license is required but see the retail price of the T Shirts - $10 or $12 or so. That certainly doesn't allow for paying for the license and the production costs of the T shirts themselves yet alone a  profit margin. Perhaps someone who has their designs being used should contact Shutterstock for clarification. Regards, David.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Help: TIN for Canadian?
« on: December 13, 2018, 14:23 »
Just did mine yesterday so it is still fresh in my mind. When you go into the Tax Interview it gives you a list (country by country) of what number to use if you are not based in the USA. For example, here in the UK, you put in your National Insurance Number. Suggest you go back in and see what is listed for Canada and then use that. Hope that helps! Regards, David.

On a side note I also did my Adobe one yesterday and was impressed that the moment I hit Submit, I got an email back saying my form was validated :)

Any sense when the royalty info will be out?  Still can't access it!

Don't expect anything before Monday. None of these 24 hour, Seven days a week hi-tech companies seem to do anything much at the Weekend other than to run on auto pilot. Today Is 24?

Contributor site back up in the UK. Tried uploading a single file but it vanished into "your file is being processed". Obviously not fully back to normal yet :(

Asked and answered on their own forum -you get paid for the free downloads as normal. It is their promotion at their expense.

123RF / Re: 123rf reducing commissions
« on: May 02, 2018, 11:44 »
Deleted my pending editorials which had been sitting there since December. I stopped uploading anyway after their latest commission cuts and I'm just waiting for $5 to reach payout then it's goodbye 123rf. There clearly is no "good news for contributors" coming as they stated.

On a related note (which nobody has mentioned I think) their sister company - macro agency Inmagine has closed down as a separate site with buyers being re-directed to the Evo (premium) collection at 123rf. This might be another reason for low sales as Inmagine had a Value RF section populated with 123rf images. I have no idea how many sales came through that but it must have an effect - not all Inmagine buyers would just automatically start buying through 123 instead. Whether this move was cost cutting or streamlining is open to speculation.
