iStockPhoto.com / Re: In Light of Getty's Policy Change
« on: July 14, 2016, 15:24 »
There's already two threads about the announcement, did you really need to start another?

2
Yeah, pretty crazy. Not being able to delete your own files and also not being able to change any of your keywords or descriptions after you've uploaded.

3
I color correct everything.

4
This is not really a tip on how to fine the locations, but when I travel I always book hotels based on how tall they are and their views. I'll even ask to switch rooms if they view is not good.

5
Being exclusive doesn't mean you'll get better placement. It just means that you get paid more per download and they'll highlight you a bit more if the opportunities arises.

In addition, it's actually not logical for them to put exclusive images on top. They get paid less per download and Getty need every penny it can get. Everyone plays by the same rules, so you better give it your best when it comes to composition, commercial value and keywording.

Actually, you're not correct. It does make sense for iStock to put Exclusive first because Exclusive images and videos sell for 3 times as much. So even with iStock having to pay the contributor more, iStock still makes more profit selling an Exclusive file compared to a non-Exclusive file.

6
Like etudiante_rapide, I also take a photo of the model holding the release.  I use that photo as the Reference photo.

7
I do it in Photoshop.

The old, the stupid and the racist have just condemned the UK to a generation in the global wilderness. I'm English and I'm ashamed and embarrassed by our actions.

When you don't agree with someone just call them a racist.

I'm pretty sure that as soon as you hit Submit on a video that it goes into the inspection queue.

10
For me the classic view option is still there for search results, but gone from the file close up page.

In Los Angeles, $50-100 for a shoot.

And just think, iStock wants video contributors to upload their 4K footage so that the contributor can get that same $7 when their 4K footage sells.

I don't think there's enough people posting there to bother with censoring and removing posts.

I would get a new model release for each shoot even if it's someone you have previous model releases for.

I've heard iStock is pretty tough on requiring a model release for each shoot.

Yup, no editorial video on iStock.

16
Back in the good days of iStock I would regularly get 20+ download in a day, even some 40+ days. Now days it's way less. But I'm sure there's still a few people with some pretty high download numbers. Especially if they're on multiple sites.

18
If you're just starting out in video, I would be trying out all the companies to see how it goes. It's a lot easier to try a bunch of companies now and go exclusive later if you think that's best rather than start as exclusive and try to switch to non-exclusive after you have a ton of videos.

Watch lots of TV.

General - Stock Video / Re: No views on my footage
« on: April 11, 2016, 13:19 »
Hello

I started a few months ago to sell video footage on different sites. I spend every week on filming and to upload new footage and thought that my portfolia will grow larger in about 2 years before I can get any bigger profit. Now I have only about 70 footage online . On Fotolia , I have about 100 veiws total of my footage but at the pond5 I do not have a single view on any of my footage . Someone who has been through the same thing on pond5 ? Some tips on how to make up the numbers so that anyone atleast see my footage ?

Ps : I'm from Sweden and my English is so-so . = )

Thanks in advance
Fredrik

70 videos onlines is not vary many. Hard for you to make much of a judgement based on so few videos.

Also, without sharing your portfolio, it's hard to comment on if you're uploading quality videos.

Uberstock's iStock portfolio has new footage that was just uploaded this week, so I guess he's still doing stock.

22
On the istock forum it said later this year big changes are coming to royalty rates. So although for non-exclusives it's ridiculously low right now. Maybe just maybe they realize this and are changing things?
My sales are still regular at istock so I wouldn't rule them out completely but all my video's are in the signature collection so I get a higher amount per download.

Has any of the changes iStock made in the past few years been good for the contributors? None that I can think of, so I wouldn't hold my breath hoping that any royalty rate changes are going to be good for contributors.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Have you seen your footage on tv?
« on: February 18, 2016, 18:20 »
I don't watch much TV, but I occasionally see mine. I happened to be watching football on New Year's Day and saw my footage in two different commercials. My footage has been used in two movies that I know about...one I saw it in the theater and the other I know because a producer contacted me with questions about my footage. Weirdest place I saw my footage was on a backdrop of a broadway musical.

It seems to be an excellent business to buy a big bunch of 4k clips then make a refund. Once you have you money back you still have the clips as well :)

That would be considered stealing and if a business was caught doing that, I would guess they would be sued. I think that most business and people are honest enough not to do that and if they're not honest, they would fear being caught enough to not try it.

You could just as easily say that it seems to be an excellent business to rob convenient stores and banks.
