Lifelong RPD 66 cents ... June RPD 63 cents.
Hard to say really ... I've been on Shutterstock since 2006, I've gotten used to getting those 38c per subscription download and now get some as low as 10 cents and some as high as $1.72. more single&other sales as well. Also 1/3 so far is from enhanced downloads, so could be treated as anomaly (lifelong earnings it's just ~5%).

2
It all depends on London remaining the financial capital of Europe. If the banks, insurance companies, large portion of the stock exchange move to continental Europe, UKs done.

Or maybe some visits come from search engines bots.
But that wouldn't explain the sudden, two day spike in views, nor would it affect sales negatively.
Sales are back (sort of) and views are back to normal again :)

I wouldn't say there's a very strong correlation (green line is views and red is downloads, both weekly), but an unusually high number of views and an unprecedented lack of downloads is a bit concerning.

Over the weekend I had my first day without a sale @Fotolia and only one little subscription purchase in two days. You could say that it's just bad luck, but at the same time my images' view count tripled. So .... views up and no sales? :o

General Stock Discussion / Re: May 2014 earning results
« on: June 10, 2014, 06:45 »
That's actually a positive for us.  It must be eight or nine years since I first pointed out that as the return per image falls the incentive for the creation of new images also falls, making it less attractive for competitors to enter the field.  At some point, the market should stabilise as the flow of new images starts to dry up. Maybe we are approaching that. I'm certainly feeling less of an incentive to upload than I used to.
It would be a positive thing if the huge increases in content were coming from people starting out in this business. There was this Russian site that gathered data on port sizes and number of new contributors and I remember that the number of new people joining Shutterstock was falling already in 2011 and 2012. I'm afraid that a large part of the new content is coming from teams and companies that were able to make use of the economy of scale and will be able to take larger and larger chunks of the market.

I'm starting to think it's GAME OVER.
Pretty much my thoughts this year. I've been with SS, my biggest earner, since 2006 and I was able to increase my earnings up until this year. So far it looks like it will be the first year with a drop in earnings for me. As you, I'm unable to keep growing my port at the same pace the whole market grows. Currently Shutterstock adds ~200-250 thousand images every week. I used to have very few images with no sales. Now, at least half of my new images get no downloads whatsoever (and mind you this is with almost 300 'followers' ). I can't even imagine how hard this must be for someone starting right now.

I wonder what's the take on this situation in other companies. If people are able to boycott a site and take a significant amount of images down that should give them something to think about and how to avoid a similar fate.

Another meaningless "bonus". Shutterstock should now double the payout for the CD backups ;)

Some numbers

DPC                     19/5/14        21/5/14

ANIMALS          1058615      1050740
NATURE           3498867       3491283
PEOPLE           2643565         2639228
BUSINESS       2956605        2949852
TRANSPORT    348705          348092
MEDICAL          388809          387119
SPORT             885643           884704
FASHION         1431000       1429219
UNDERWATER 73364          72925

Every category saw a small decrease in the numbers. Well done, keep it up and keep spreading the word to contributors not yet in the know.

Hope my 2000+ images are included in that drop :)
Generally Fotolia is the only site where I see a consistent drop in income, despite regular uploading on my side. Why would I support that Dollar Club thing? Undercutting your core business doesn't make much sense to me.

12
Problems besetting contributors may also have something to do with RPD.  The lowered commissions in recent memory, the push to subscription sales, and the more recent endeavors such as Dollar club, are all cases in point.

It should be interesting to evaluate how much revenue decline comes from reduced downloads versus reduction in RPD.

The green graph shows my monthly number of downloads and the red line is showing earnings. The peak for both values was more or less when I became 'gold'. So unfortunately, at least in my case, it's not just a matter of changing RPD. It's also not an industry wide problem since on Dreamstime or Shutterstock my sales are pretty steady. If it was just me I wouldn't say a thing, but so many people are complaining about this, there must be some explanation for the drop in revenue.

13
I experienced a drop in sales (and also in the 7 days rank - my relative position) when I got to Gold. Still working my way to emerald, but I already slipped from my 100-120 7 day rank position to the current 290. It's the only site where my sales are dropping significantly despite uploading regularly.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia 1042-S for 2103
« on: April 04, 2014, 08:10 »
I asked support about this and they told me that I should "pull the total from my profile". Which is a bit surprising since I used to get a 1042-S from Fotolia. I received the answer from UK Fotolia, so If for some reason they started to handle the transactions under UK law shouldn't they stop withholding taxes?

Very nice. Would love to get something similar. Anyone would point me in the right direction, where and how to start modifying the basic look of Symbiostock.

I hope it goes without saying that in the "big picture" (no pun intended) we're more committed to our "core" contributors than ever before and we're also focused on creating additional opportunities for you.  For the time being, this new brand has a specific point-of-view and participation is by invite only.  In the future, we expect that every contributor will have the opportunity to be considered for inclusion in the Offset collection as we continue to maintain the outstanding quality that we have in our core collection.

.....

Best Regards,

Shutterstock

Would it be possible in the future to combine Shutterstock review process with Offset. For a chosen group of contributors reviewers would be able to pick some of the images submitted to Shutterstock and move them over to Offset. For years I have always submitted my fresh content to Shutterstock in the first place, so that would also allow me to supply exclusive content.
Just out of curiosity ... how many of the lucky few that currently contribute to Offset were Shutterstock contributors ? It looks like you are looking mainly for people outside of micro.

Adobe Stock / Re: Payout delays at Fotolia?

There is nothing wrong with FT payouts.
Compared to the sites where you get paid on request FT needs a lot more time. Depositphotos, Dreamstime and a couple of others are able to send it much quicker. Sometimes within hours.
iStock, with it's own mixed system, might sometimes take more time, but since they send payments based on a fixed schedule there are no surprises there. With Fotolia I never know if it's going to be a week or two.
I'm not saying there's something wrong (never had any serious issues, like missing payments), but it's definitely slow compared to others.
I still disagree, 123 takes two weeks, so does CanStockPhoto, SS takes 4-8 days, FT is definitely quicker than 2 weeks. FAA takes 1.5-2 months. A Dutch stock site takes about 60-80 days, Alamy takes 2 months to 2 years. DP took 2 days.
2 years @Alamy? You're comparing apples and oranges. :D The fact that you don't get enough earnings doesn't mean they need two years to process the payout. I get paid every month (within the first 10 days of a given month). No surprises there. On most sites it looks like an automated (or semiautomated) process. Fotolia makes me think someone has to do it by hand. I'm just talking about the unpredictability and the fact they don't have any strict rules when are you getting paid (besides the 50 credits limit).

For at least a year now I have to wait 7-10 days, sometimes longer. I wish they would just switch to a regular monthly payout schedule.

25
Usually March and November were best months for stock. Last November was good, but not great and so far I don't think March is going to be a record breaker despite the fact I'm uploading regularly. The fact that there are 10 weekend days this month doesn't help either.
SODs down, but not significantly.
