Being primarily a buyer, I never look at anyone's individual ports. I simply view the search results, add images to light-box, then sort through those selected. The only times I've ever deleted an image from a site(s) is when a buyer wants exclusive rights to an image (only happened twice).

General Stock Discussion / Re: Working with models - please help
« on: January 10, 2014, 09:05 »
In some instances you do a TFCD shoot - trade the model for her time by providing him/her with images for their portfolio.  Model is free in that instance...you can also ask the model to do their own makeup.  Studio space/outdoor space with permits is out of your pocket.  This is the least expensive way to get by.
Agreed. In fact 99% of my port consists of models and I've never paid them a dime. Every "model-wanna-be" needs a port. Every actor/actress/media person needs a port. Every makeup/hair stylist needs a port, etc.

Make some business cards and place them at schools/businesses where these types of people hang/work/or go to school.

If you shoot outdoors, there's no studio fees/costs. Just make sure you get signed releases and a simple contract detailing the terms of the "exchange" - that you have the right to sell the images.

good luck!

It's a bummer that I am not with Yay, because I have enjoyed quitting these terrible agencies this past year.

Don't ya just feel like we are dying here from a million small wounds that these agency owners think they can inflict?
...well said....closed account. This is their version of a fire-sale before they go bust.

Sure, when was that logo restriction implemented, surely from the early days.
No big deal and no reason for a minor mistake by an inspector to be used as basis ugly attacks and 7th grade level humor.
.
If I only had a nickel for everytime I've heard THAT one, I could retire....Ron, I gave you a heart because I DO believe your humor is at least 8th grade level :)

Hey,
any of you that want a "special deal" with IS, start shooting photos of people floating 10 inches above their reflections!...done!

That IS coffin has a lot of nails already, but its never the last nail.... IS keeps plodding on. I dont see any signals of their demise. Contributors keep submitting, and buyers keep buying.
Our company no longer submits or purchases from IS. We openly expose clients to all other agencies and explain to them why IS isn't a good option for THEM as well as the photographers who contribute to stock sites. It's not a lot on Getty-Scale, but it cuts about $25K - $30K annually from their pockets. Do not assist thieves.

No exclusivity, and no strings attached. Anyway, we'd love to see all your non-stocky stock photos. If you have questions, just ask. More information here http://blog.photocase.com/2013/07/09/multi-upload-now-open-for-everyone/

Frank,

My 2 cents as I'm actually more of a buyer than photog. While I desperately wish to purchase from the "little guys" to help support the community, Photocase has a lot of images that simply won't work for the client. "Non stocky" is not necessarily a good thing. I've asked clients to search your site and I get "weird, not impressed, not what we're looking for" responses. I'll be glad to support your site, but you might consider adding some more "useable" images. I get the "art-for-art's-sake" thing, but it's still a business (I think).

hey, lay off Getty....those guys simply need the upfront capital to pay for their new houses....you guys are heartless :)

slightly off-topic, review time say 1 - 2 days for the last 9 days...I have had a batch sitting lifeless in the q...anyone else getting reviews/rejections/acceptance in the last week?

850 images...0 sales in last 25 days. Never been a big seller for me but has dried up.

12
as a buyer as well, I had a major client that needed hi-res "steampunk" images for ads. Couldn't find enough on any of the sites but wound up contacting an individual who is now busy trying to get the quantity that I need without killing me on the price...no middle man at all.

still @ 100% although sales have slowed over the last 30 days.

I just want to know who people are in here so I can send them cookie-grams. I have a guy who doesn't change much for shipping so I can send all over the world for pretty cheap.

Whatever the outcome, I look forward to the adventure.

For many of the people on this forum, this is not an "adventure", this is the real world of making a living. Unlike most businesses, we not only have to deal with agencies changing the terms of our agreements to suit themselves, we also have to deal with petty and arbitrary enforcers who only want to see a hundred "woo-yay" posts when they do it.
   Keep your cookies.
Oh, and my name is Jim Barber. You banned me a long time ago, and i haven't contributed to your agency for years.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that exactly what this discussion is about? A change to the terms of the use of this site? Leaf has indicated why he is looking to test this change in his initial post. I would have to say that it's a valid concern and part of why the majority of the people I talk to about these boards are hesitant to participate.

You can be mad at me for you being banned. I can't say I've always been 100% valid in the bans. However, as mentioned in previous posts, I'm more than reasonable when it comes to reinstatements. If you are of the ilk who WILL NEVER COME BACK well then that's fine too. Why care about being banned from a place you no longer what to participate in.

Whew. Okay, I hope you all get things sorted in here.
I seriously doubt that...

I still think having a day where we all start deleting together would send a strong message.

Do you honestly believe that? I doubt it very much. I think personally the only person you will harm will be yourself, by dropping your income. If you're really p*** off, why not leave completely, surely that would be more positive. They must get thousands of uploads a day, many many thousands, a couple of thousand being deactivated, what will that do? I don't want to sound negative, but this is doomed to failure.

I agree with Vad_the_Limp...deactivation is the smartest way to put space btwn you and the idiots you wish to avoid...!

I'm a bit confused.  You say you agree with him that deactivation is smart, but he was arguing AGAINST deactivation.  So which is it?
My appologies L...my post was dripping with sarcasm...since Vlad is quite the fangirl, I really only posted to have fun with her name. In truth, I've deactivated 400 of my massive 480 image port at WHYstock, but giving serious consideration to just closing the account...things are not going to get better there with time.

It was too much for me, LOL.  Wanted to test out Sean's script, and it was so easy I got carried away and deleted 203 images ;D.

L,
where is Sean's script?...This is taking forever..

^^ I like that idea! Submit cell phone photo.
ditto...haven't uploaded in over a year but will start uploading to the limits photos of my feet (not very pretty), ants, carpet stains, etc...

Contacted yesterday the 4 clients that insist on using Dirtstock, and enlightened them to what's happening. They were all quietly scratching their heads but agreed that the potential for trouble was certainly present. 2 committed to purchasing elsewhere, the other 2 - not sure what they'll do...

Will likely delete my current 900 image port this weekend but like the idea of flooding the que with garbage (which is still X2 better than most of the Getty crap).

Sorry to be so negative (only found 4 of my images, but 4 too many) but anyone dumb enuff to leave their ports there deserves what's coming. Forget lawsuits and threats, grab a lifevest and hit the water...unbelievable in spite of who it is.

averaging 2 sales per month, RPD is good, and they autopay at the end of each month.

We had some technical issues earlier, but I believe they are resolved now. What are you using to upload?

Still not working...using the site uploader in IE9

perhaps you fit their "cultural mode" : )

Still make $ from them but rejections forced me to stop uploading months ago...perhaps I'm a cultural dolt...
