Newbie Discussion / Buying stock
« on: April 05, 2013, 15:48 »
Any opinions on the best place to buy microstock if you're just interested in one or two high-quality people images? Budget is low, around $10 per image of 2550x3300. I don't need a subscription but want high quality work.

Just checking. Those keywords were removed by istock.

Istock seems to be evolving further towards higher priced images. I'd not be surprised if they're happy to loose all but the top layer of contributors. Though I'm puzzled how the new commission schedule will attract new sellers. For someone like me, ShutterStock is still the place to be. However I'm earning more in other royalties in a few months than I ever did with microstock -- so maybe microstock in general won't be my main focus at all.

"Contributors who don't sell exclusively will get a maximum 20 percent royalty instead of a minimum 20 percent royalty in the previous payment scheme."

Would the keywords "sexy" or "nude" apply to the following image for purposes of istock sales?

DT is my second biggest earner after SS, IS is third with big thud. So for me, no; they seem to be waking up!

I got my first rejections for the reason of "r rated" on Shutterstock today. Are they no longer taking nudes?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Rejection: accurate shoot description
« on: February 24, 2010, 07:26 »
The main problem with shoot description is that it makes generic release unusable - e.g. DT effectively requires 'catchall' release, so one with description cannot be used there
that becomes a non-problem if you submit a new release for every new session

I think it's a problem if your images are being rejected. I wish they'd just tell me my photos suck and to stop uploading, that would be easy. The irony is that my releases are very specific, but they're looking for a specific page format.

LOL That's why they need to stop doing this it's almost embarassing

Almost?

Alamy says "No glamour" -- yet a search of "nude" shows a ton of nudes. What's going on?

OK. Thanks. My original release says "I knowingly appear nude and/or seminude in these images" -- I guess they either didn't see that or wanted it broken out with a heading down near the model data.... This is like dealing with the government.

When I emailed istock, they suggested I have a specific decription for each shot, for example "female buttocks, low key."

Submit 10 images, model must sign 10 releases. Really?

I'm thinking of;

Shoot Description: female model(s), variety of glamour, pin-up, and fashion poses including nude and clothed.

But I'm afraid the process of trial and error will be time consuming.

How do I figure out what an accurate shoot description is? i shoot a mix of clothed and nude shots, and my release states this... do I need to make the release match the description for each uploaded file?

When I look at your portfolio, I see your username, not your real name.

It's still in the page source, so it shows up on google image searches -- it comes from the copyright field, which auto populates with my name.

When you open "control panel" you'll see a sort of drop down menue called "contributor", and there you'll see "real name". You just switch that to "member name".

Thanks, but I did that a year ago, it still puts my real name in the copyright field.

« on: February 21, 2010, 18:26 »
I'm seeking a way to keep my real name from appearing on my istock images. On 123rf.com this is handled with a single selection in the account management.

istock says on your profile "This information is private and for admin use only. " but it seems to automatically appear under the copyright info on every image I upload.

Does anyone know how to turn it off?

And, before you start, please let's not change the subject of this thread to *why* I want it turned off, just let me know if anyone knows how. Thanks.

iStockPhoto.com / Record long inspection wait times

I have two files waiting for inspection on istock. Upload date 11/29/09. Anyone experience anything this long before?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: How much do you like Istockphoto?
« on: January 02, 2010, 14:03 »
Overall one of the things I most LIKE about istock is the consistency of it's inspections.  Frankly it would be nice if all sites' reviews were as reasonable as Istock's.
Amen, Amen, AMEN!  ;D

Maybe it's because my images were borderline, but I've uploaded two images that were technically identical (different pose, same shoot) and have had one rejected for noise, the other accepted -- only difference is uploading a week apart. This happens a lot at IS for me (again, maybe it is because of my images) but the judgement call on noise, isolation, lighting, etc. can vary depending on when you upload.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Best place to sell nudes?

Again, thanks. But not my question -- I am already selling nudes on microstock -- and want to hear from others who are doing the same about which site is working best for them.

I'm sure you mean well, but that was not exactly my question.

Looking for the best place to sell nude, not whether or not to sell nudes.

General Stock Discussion / Best place to sell nudes?
« on: January 02, 2010, 10:36 »
I'm wondering where the best place to sell nudes is. Please speak from personal experience (not looking for a guess.) I'm currently on Fotolia, Istock, Dreamstime, and Shutterstock.

My nudes sell best on Shutterstock followed by istock, but wonder if there is a site more specialized in this. My work is more of the pin-up/glamour type than art nude.

I can always count on IS to bring loads of changes and brand identity confusion :)
