It may be live, but it's only bringing up server errors right now when I click on a couple of my photos. I'll give their databases a couple of hours to refresh then try again.

Congratulations!
What's going to happen? The front of your computer will slide down and coins are going to start flying from it. I suggest you use your remaining time to acquire a good sturdy net :-) 129
Lighting / Re: Paper or cloth for isolations« on: August 17, 2008, 19:32 »If you are not shooting macro, I think the texture doesn't matter much - does it? Light sources would be the main concern. I think I've got the lighting covered, and I know I can hide the texture of the material by properly overexposing the background. I'm still not sure of any advantages of paper over something else? Wrinkles? Ease of tear down after a shoot? Re-use? I've seen Zack's blog posts on shooting with a white background, and they are indeed excellent and very educational reading. And he uses paper, a nine-foot wide roll of paper (a bit less than 3m). Such a roll of paper does not lend itself to portability if you have to set up your equipment "somewhere else." This is something that I need to do from time to time. 130
Lighting / Paper or cloth for isolations« on: August 17, 2008, 01:13 »
I've got a question about the backgrounds used for isolations. I know that a lot of people like to use paper, and others use some type of plastic (vinyl, formica, etc). Is there a clear cut advantage of using these materials over something like a high-key muslin?
I'm not talking about doing an isolation for small items, I've got that covered. I'm thinking of something more like for full-length body shots, larger items, or items where it'd be easier to do the isolation in camera rather than spending hours with the pen tool. Thanks! 131
Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Re: Are Expensive Tripods Worth the Money?« on: August 14, 2008, 17:03 »
My current tripod is a Slik 700DX Pro. It's a lot larger and heaver than the previous cheapie ones I bought. I've got a Bogen 390RC2 Jr head on it that takes the quick release plates. What I like about this combo is that it's very stable. I use this to support my camera for stock shots, and for studio work. I'll take it out and about, but I make sure I don't have to lug it very far. I don't think I would go hiking with this, though, due to the weight.
The only problem I have with the entire setup is fitting a large lens (like the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS) to the tripod. With the release plate on the lens's "foot", the camera body gets in the way of the release lever. My quick solution is to loosen the ring on the tripod and rotate everything 90 degrees, click the plate into the tripod, then re-center the camera if needed.. 132

General Stock Discussion / Re: July 2008 earnings breakdown« on: August 01, 2008, 17:37 »
IS 38.79% (almost a BME)
SS 29.10% (WME) DT 14.28% FT 10.58% 123 4.52% (WME) StockXpert 3.64% (WME) SV 2.78% (BME) BigStock 2.14% (tied another WME month) CS 1.43% CanStockPhoto 1.07% FP, MP, SR & YAY: 0.00% Overall, sales in July were 19.7% lower than June. thoughts: SS dropped quite a bit, I'll attribute it to summer vacations. Sales on StockXpert sank like a brick in a swimming pool. SV almost beat them... Sales picked up a little bit on SV--hope this trend continues. 134

My sales at StockXpert have steadily declined over the last couple of months--not sure if it's summer malaise, or just a "portfolio to designer need disconnect."
At this point, I'm planning on keeping an eye on things at StockXpert. I might not upload new images, but not yet sure if I'm going to start disabling images. I guess it depends on how many $.30 sales show up, and if it can be discerned if these were from photos.com. I certainly don't like the idea of losing out on an EL. Don't ask me how I know this, but I know what "shafted" feels like. 136

Cameras / Lenses / Re: rewiews about CANON 1 Ds MKIII« on: July 25, 2008, 12:38 »...This camera is a tank and is pretty amazing. I took it on the Yosemite Mist Trail and it got completely soaked in water but was still perfectly working.... This tidbit filed away for future reference. Good to know the weather sealing works as advertised. You guys grumping about opening files on old systems-- I've got plenty of files I wouldn't even be able to *store* on my oldest computer. I mean, seriously, how can you wedge in a 60MB+ PSD file onto a floppy that only holds 180K? I'm sure there are plenty of us around who well remember minicomputers with smaller disk packs than some of our larger PSD files... 138

I've got a couple of batches of photos to send...nothing like 3K though. I've thought about just burning a CD, putting it in a mailer with a cover letter and having one of the kids run it down the street to drop it in the mailbox. I'm kinda curious about the review time for images sent this way.
