get this: final paragraph:

.........."who attended court in a wheelchair, and his wife, but said he wanted the matter dealt with quickly, considering their ages."

oh bugger,
that really kills me !
which reminds me, i should be looking for some plaster of paris, and a wheel chair.
i could do with a new yacht ! :)

It's funny how compassionate we are when we are defrauded by a lady, isn't it?

Or by 80 year old pensioners remember these?

David

exactly David. we keep forgetting that crooks grow up and get older. when they do, they don't reform, they get better and more invisible because "old people and women don't rob banks, or commit industrial espionage, credit card fraud,etc.." lol

that petty thief kid that used a fishing rod to pull my father's rolex from his bedside table is how old nowadays? something like 80 years old today, more or less. i am sure he is still ripping off people
except his grandchildren is running the business, and he is having weekly party on his yacht, lol.

not everything we see is just in the movies. script writers don't just get these revelations in their sleep. good link, David.  thx !

Sometimes I think eating is cultural habit. French are less obese than Americans ;-) It must be combination of cuisine and lots of wine versus hamburgers and beer :-)

u may have a point there, mela! french, incl the canadienne (ie french canadians) tend to walk, jog, cycle, hike, etc more as activity minded. their english speaking cousins do more watching tv, drive cars, etc...which get  them to get obese. good observation.

104
Shoot obese people, they are on the rise :-)

lol mela, over here, to be politically correct, we call them Xtra Large Clothing Size Ppl.
moreover, Xtra Large Clothing Sized Ppl is not cultural.   ;D

Something really is happening at BigStock , since yesterday I had my BDE with 7 downloads, two of them for 2$. What's more, new and totally different images were downloaded compared with before. For me at least, the new search algorithm seems to work much better, with the same large variety of downloads as on Dreamstime.

1) isn't it great to see download and have $1 instead of 30cents attached to it.
2) one diff with DT, the new images are still not being found in the search. and if so, only certain favoured contributors are on the first pages.

not quite what Bigstock has achieved here. that is something to write home about, for sure. good show BigStock.

take it as a blessing in disguise. only old images are being viewed and sold.  :D

I wonder if FT is taking away its buyers.

Freedom, why only  FT? i find it odd because DT sales are more US, whilst FT buyers are obviously EU.  So i would expect IS, or SS to take away from DT, but not FT.

i stumbled upon this topic by hatman, which except for the numbers seems like history is repeating itself, with the situation of lots of new images, no views.
thought i resurrect the topic instead of starting a new one.

btw, where IS hatman? he used to be such a regular . are you using a new alias like everybody else. you had many good comments. wish you're still with us.
a new alias is good, it's like a new hat ! (no pun intended).

back to topic, awash with images... so, where is the customers, better... where are the views? search engine trouble?

At the flip of a coin, Fotolia, Istock, BigStock Photo, even CanStock can do better than your new site... because they already have an established buyer base.

Yes they have an established buyer base, but their problem is that they don't have anything unique to offer, just the same images that are on all the other sites.

You had some very valid points...

I'll remind that I'm NOT going to start a stock site, I'm just thinking how I would run it :)

you too. it's a good posting.
let's hope some CEO will visit and read it, take the opinions seriously, and who knows, we might find that Magical Site pop out of thin air, except it could be one of the already established new sites we know from the list on the right of this page.

If I am a betting man, I like to wish it will be either Zymmetrical or Cutcaster, because these two CEOs are the most communicative and proactive here in this forum. Unlike some egoists from the Big 6 who just can't take it whenever someone says something he does not like. LOL...

It will be wonderful if either one (Keith, John) succeeds. I will be the first to celebrate for them!

111
Perry, all applaudable ideas, which I am sure Keith of Zymmetrical and John of Cutcaster would try implementing.
Only one problem, I stop after reading 1) and 2), because I can do the same with Istock, even more now with Vetta.
Problem with a new site no matter how good the vision and intention may be, is the main draw ...the carrot: BUYERS CONNECTION.
At the flip of a coin, Fotolia, Istock, BigStock Photo, even CanStock can do better than your new site... because they already have an established buyer base.
Oh, I forgot to include  Veers Marketplace , of course.

You have one thing right for sure: we are all just about had it with new sites popping up with magical promises. Like magicians, it's all conjuring lots of beautiful things , when in reality, it's all illusion.

Finally, what about your site's name?
How about  MAGICstock ? or STOCKILLUSION ?

good post though !

this is hilarious. most of you talk like DT just invented the PacMan of microstock.
great diversion from the main problem, no views  on new approved image. or has everyone forgotten about that.
sorry to rain on your parade, i 'd rather be outside the sun drinking than waste my time . how little toys  amaze big boys and gals  ;D
comapratively speaking , even asking about pixamba is doing more for a contributor !
yawn ! reminds me of the mythical classic, " The Wooden Horse " aka "Helen of Troy". !

ooohhh you've left yourself so open with that one, especially with the pickle. But its a public forum and I wont go there :)

;D yes, we need to practise a bit of discretion here. we won't want Tyler to start rating comments (R- G - X - PG) . let's keep this PG at worst  ;D

Alamy.com / Re: New Alamy QC Policy
« on: July 08, 2009, 12:52 »
Alamy is so harmless when it comes to approvals.

Once you get the hang at the Micros I don't understand how you can get rejections at Alamy.

I think it's always good to weed out contributors that don't really contribute but clog up the system.

Those people should just leave it to the photographers who take it seriously.

click_click,
how do you mean CLOG UP THE SYSTEM?
do you mean by submitting a flood of images that usually end up being rejected?
if so, most definitely, totally in agreement. if you keep getting rejections, you must have a problem with Alamy. you should quit, as it is not that difficult to get approval, if you keep within the expected
confines of sharp and clean well-upsized images,etc..

this will surely improve the QA review time for the rest of us.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Exclusivity, yes or no?
« on: July 08, 2009, 12:46 »

Ah, ok. Well that would be a great idea. Go for it!
The problem for the exclusives would then be that commissions would have to be lowered, since their higher commissions are partly subsidized by the lower commissions of free contributors.

True that^^.

Plus of course, the exclusives get many other advantages over non-exclusives, such as search engine placement, private forums, etc. and those perks would become irrelevant if everybody was exclusive.

But the number one reason not to get rid of independents is (drumroll please....)

Because istock would lose roughly half its content.  They could no longer claim to have what the others have PLUS exclusive content.  Other sites would then have much larger collections and a big competitive advantage.

But hey, if you want them to go that way, cool by me.  I have already run the numbers and I would get by just fine without the income istock generates.  Even more so when their buyers realize the collection has been halved and go joining other sites en masse ;D

interesting response from both sides (cevapcici, PixelBytes)  (ichiro17) .
i was actually hoping to touch on exclusive images other than IS, but you (cevapcici, PixelBytes) brought up another pointer i never thought of, viz the importance independents figure in the whole IS equation. although i am sure exclusives will no doubt beg to differ.

thx you 3, and thx too to hawk_eye for letting me go OT (silence mean consent ).

116
vonkara  , agree.  It may get you more views, not more dls. I doubt if buyers check those posts.

The buyers may not be here in any great numbers and opinions here would have little effect on them if they even read them.

BUT the site CEO's DO READ THESE THREADS! And I for one have seen many big and positive changes on more than one site. Due to the opinions of the photographers here.

If a site sucks for any reason and they do not want to fix it .... let everyone here know about it and together we can make changes happen!

-Larry

Larry,
as magnum said, not what takestock is asking.
HOWEVER,
still a good post and very valid comment .
AND WORTH REPEATING:

you should re-direct this comment to one of the more relevant posting, Larry ! as i feel it's worth publishing.

Larry, by checking up on the MSG archives, i know you are a big fan of Big Stock.
i am too.

however, i never really paid much attention to the search options.
can you shed some light to tell me why you think this is GREAT!... ?

I assume you have a port on BigStock. If so search your own images with the new search tools, with and without keywords.

The results are fair when searching the full site. Before when searching the oldest images were given a push to the front! Some with numbers less than 100 !!!

Now when I do a search using keywords that I know should bring mine to the front or very near the front. They are there!!

Try it a while.

-Larry

hmm,
hmm, sounds like a good dream (no pun intended) ;)
if this is not just some new game (ahem) , then hats off to BigStock.
thanks Larry, i will surely check it out.

My guess is, that in the US anyway, the great influx and growth of the Spanish speaking, latino population will be a driving force.

Already the most popular radio station in Los Angeles is a Spanish language station.
I am seeing more & more product packages that are in Spanish and English.
Every time I call a major bank or phone company I get the option to press a number for instruciones in Spanish.

So my cloudy crystal ball is saying, shoot Hispanics.

good observation nosaya. i come from an immersion of hispanic culture, and i agree there is a growing consciousness. but i don't think this is what buyer wants.stock images are use demographically but strategically market targets towards who spends the most money. granted the hispanics and other ethnics spend lots of money , but the mostly converge within their communities, ie. little italy, chinatown, latin alley,etc..the general advertising does not go into these satellite communities, most ethnic businesses are mom and pop store, they don't go into big time ads.
for that reason, traditional and still prevalent, the images are going to be white pretty  girls and guys with smooth white hands and white teeth . if this is not so, just look at most of the Big 6 home page, how often do you NOT see white cheese cake?

no, sorry, no ricky martin macarena revival. even so, ricky martin and luis miguel try very hard to look white as well. even the fashion experts once pointed out that there is no black model, just black women with white features.ie. naomi,etc..

going off slightly, i hope hawkeye  will allow me to ask this question-
those of you who are not for exclusive, would you still go for exclusive image with a specific site? if so, which site, and were they beneficial?

Alamy does not sell many images as often as you get in micro, but anyone who has successfully contributed to them will tell you it's not often you get rejected.
So, when I hear this cleanup implemented by Alamy, I applaud them. You really have to be bad (example: upsizing and losing clarity and definition, over processing to make up for the bad upsized image, etc) to repeatedly fail QC.

Like many here, I did not get notice of this . My upload percentage has been consistently 100% and reviewed promptly by Alamy standards. I think it will be the best for all of us.

I don't approved the 6 months lock in at DT but I can understand it up to a certain point. IMO, it should be a lot less. I'd be happy with 3 months like BS or with 60 days like Veer. But when I enrolled at DT, it was clearly stated in the contract and I choose to accept it and I have to live with my decision.

I appreciate your point, Talanis. I was also sounding like you many months ago when all the views and downloads seem to be working in my favor. You, no doubt ,are enjoying the good fortune with DT
so like you said, even if you don't approve of it, you live with the decision.
However, a number of posters here have also voiced a dissimilar situation in that many , if not most , of their new uploads are not get any views, so naturally not being found, and of course needless to say, no downloads.
We all went into the agreement bona fide that the agencies work with us to give us some assurance of a level playing field. If your images are not being found in the search , and not getting view, this is not compliant to the agreement we initially agreed.
In the real world I am aware of the non - competition clause as a Consultant. But I am also aware that there is such thing as a breach of faith, and that too can be a cause to nullify the contract both parties signed. A contract works both ways, Talanis, to protect not just the contractor, it also works to protect the contractee.
Both parties have an obligation, not just the contributor to the agency.

errata:
breach of faith x-  s/b breach of trust +

Wow, it was not easy to find, but here is the thread I remembered:
Preparing for istock exclusivity

In my searching, I came across a few DT threads for your enlightenment: ;)
Can't get out of DT quick enough
Why is DT being stupid?
DO NOT ENABLE PREVIOUSLY DISABLED FILES...

cool, thx again whatalife ! i bookmarked them for thorough readover.

EDITED
...except for a bizarre and ambiguous clause which seems to say that if you want to license your rejected files RM, you have to get the explicit permission from support.

this is what i still cannot fathom the sensibility. if you rejected those images why is it so forbidden to allow them to be sold RM ?  this sounds too much like work for hire where every single images really belong to the company that pays you. can anyone justify this for me? other than just being quote: ANAL unquote...?
