Yeah, it was removed because it was degraded to a simple back and forth spat. I could have removed the last page or so of the discussion but chose to simply archive the entire thread and be done with it. Sometimes it feels easier to start fresh.

I have a strange error today. When I look at old files, some of the files have releases attached like they should but other files have no releases attached Is there a bug with the latest release? Are others having this issue? Files edited yesterday look good, but files edited last month have no releases. I can't find a pattern in the old files and which ones have releases and which ones have the releases deleted

I feel Alamy is a bit of a different game than the typical microstock sites and I think people have a pretty wide range of results. I'm certain there are a lot of people making good money with Alamy, I'm not one of them unfortunately. If you shoot lots of RM or other content that sells well on Alamy I don't think it is surprising to have sales above $2500/month.

How are people filling this in when February PP sales from IS are still not in?
For myself, I always just use the amount earned during the month, regardless of which month the downloads occurred - so my February amount is based on PP, GI and Subs from January + credit sales in February.
I find it easier that way - otherwise I'd have to wait until the end of the month before I could submit, and it would only be visible a few days.
@Leaf - is it possible to display the numbers of Exclusives submitting too?
Same here. I just vote how much money I made on each site in a given month and disregard which month it was actually downloaded.

Thanks, Leaf.
On a clarification note: I understood previously that if I put in a total for my Alamy RM sales, my iStock entry would move to iStock indie, not exclusive where it should be (for RF). Is that currently the case? If not, would it be possible to make that scenario work? (I know I'm not the only one!). IIRC, previously you said that would be a lot of convoluted work, though, and it's not something I have the knowledge to be able to help with.
Yeah, if you vote on more than one site, the system will see you as non-exclusive unfortunately. There isn't an easy way around this.. and for the purpose of this simple poll I'm not sure it's worth coding it in.

If you mouse over the sites on the right site, you can now see the number of votes used to count the numbers and their rating (for the sites that don't show it). A site needs 50 or more votes before it shows on the top area (to make a decent average). If you haven't voted in the monthly poll recently, you can do so here http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php?page=microstockmonthlysurvey

Focus on something you are good at and enjoy. Then do searches on the stock site and see if you can do better or if perhaps you can find a 'hole'. Use 2-3 search terms together and see how many results come up. If your images wont' show up either because there are better ones out there or because there are so few images for that search term - they have to show up... then find another idea.
If you have good images then estimate 50cents per image per month. Anything from 25 cents - $2 is within reason but 50 cents might be a good starting point.

For some reason if you change user name your old one still shows for threads you start. I think it always happened and I don't know why?
Yep it's always been that way. If you want yours changed, just let me know.

I was using bluehost once as well until they one day simply decided to shut the lights off because the site was using too many resources. Fine that they have limits but just shutting things down without notice doesn't seem very professional to me.
I ended up going with siteground

That's really not good at all. I've been using his keywording site for ages and it was very very convenient.
There are lots of alternatives. One example, http://microstockgroup.com/tools/keyword.php
Thanks! I know this one. But Yuri website had this huge advantage that he showed how popular are given keywords and also how much searched. This was very useful.
Yea I liked Yuri's better, but the MSG one is close enough that I'll manage.
I just wish it would put the key words in alphabetical order.
The order of the words isn't by chance. They are ordered by how often they are used in the set of images you chose... so supposedly the most important ones are first. Some sites want the most important words first. If you want to sort the chosen keywords alphabetically you can press the little A button on the right side.
I press the little A button and don't get good results. See my screen shots for the two options it gives me.
The first one is sorted with "Fiat" at the front. The second one sorts "Italy" to the front. Definitely not alphabetical. So it's broken, at best.
You may have noticed that it was sorting correctly but sorting capital words first. The second example is with the alphabetic sorting turned off. In which case it first prioritizes the words you added manually, then adds the words that you select from the left side - this isn't broken and is working like it should. I have fixed the bias given to capitals so not it sorts correctly irregardless of capital letter or not.

Thanks for the responses everyone. It sounds like the best plan might be to make high res scans of the drawings and simply upload them as rasters.

I'm wanting to convert some of my wife's drawings to vectors - but can it be done in a way to keep the texture of the pencil marks? The illustrator auto trace creates 1000's of vector points which makes for a poor vector (if I'm not mistaken). Is it even possible to create a good vector from drawings like these or would the colors need to become 'flat'. Is the only option to simply submit a raster image of the drawings / a scan?
thanks for the help from a vector 'newb'

SHAME ON CANVA!!!!
I would love to hear Leaf's opinion on this and how many times agencies (and which ones) asked him to remove certain comments in order to preserve their shambles business. Be honest please...
OR we ALL better just close our MSG accounts and go 100% underground.
or worse ask leaf to reveal who this person is, so they can stealthily boycott his/her portfolio on their agency inventory. however, i take it that leaf would not reveal that infor... HOPEFULLY.
I often know very little more about the anonymous posters than anyone else. Obviously I can see an IP and an email address but that's it. Regardless, no contact information is ever given to anyone unless a court of law demands it. The sites have been very good about about letting us discuss topics without interference. There has only been a handful of times (less than 10.. probably less than 5) where I've been asked by and agency to look at a comment or post. When that has happened it has been for good reason - insults / foul language etc... things that aren't allowed on the forum anyhow.

The majority of the posts in this thread have generally been well mannered. Thank you
Just a reminder for those who are tempted to post otherwise, please keep the tone of the conversation civil (insults and coarse language are not needed)

That watermark doesn't really serve its purpose on images like these
Wow. Even worse than my example. You can't see the watermark at all.
Yes, ok . Point taken. Perhaps they should add a shadow to all their lines so it shows up on both black and while backgrounds!

I think the watermark looks good. It would take quite a while to remove it yet it is certainly obvious enough to see if people try to use the images with the watermark still there. If you are going to go to all the work of removing the watermark, it would be a lot simpler to just grab an image from google and get an image without a watermark in the first place.
People who steal photos are going to go to Google for their searches, not download Shutterstock images and spend 20 minutes removing a watermark - people steal because they are lazy.

If you are searching for a niche then I'd say 0-2 pages of results is a good niche. Even for very rare subjects which you might not think are downloaded very often - there are people out there who are looking for those images. I have found a few subjects where there was 0-30 result images and when I filled those holes with decent model released images there were reasonable sales.

Has anyone ever got a notice of TECHNICAL GLITCH-please resubmit? What does this mean?
It means that there was a problem with uploading - like the file is corrupted or something and you should try again.

Please stop adding links to every post you make. You can add a subtle link in your signature which will show after you've made 10 posts.
