There are, however, exceptions to this policy.

Acceptable uses of certain public domain content:

-Incorporating elements of NASA content

Stock footage created by government entities, like NASA and the National Park Service, automatically becomes public domain.

Public domain footage generally can be used freely with no restrictions, but its important to make sure the footage is in fact not copyrighted.

Those were from a quick Google search, will have to dig a bit deeper for full details and Adobe and Pond5 etc, but they have tens of thousands (probably hundreds of thousands of images and videos containing NASA content (i.e anything that contains the Earth which isn't clearly an illustration), so I'd be super surprised if they're completely unaware of the situation, are going to be shocked by such a revelation, and will proceed to delete everything! Bottom line is that NASA are absolutely 100% fine with it, so it's then up to the stock sites. I've never been told, or read that it's an issue and seeing they'll lose millions a year if they stop accepting NASA content, then I'm guessing it's fine.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Selling photos to russia
« on: September 14, 2022, 07:19 »
Doesn't the map just show the location of the IP address of the purchaser? So if a customer signs in via a VPN, the location could show as Moscow, but the real location could be anywhere in the world?

Unless you're in Russia, or you've specifically chosen to have your IP address show as being in Russia... then you won't have an IP address that shows you as being in Russia. And while some people outside of Russia may choose to have a Russian IP address, that's going to be very rare... unless you're Russian.

128
Did you miss the part where I said that all of the images are public domain and all of the stock agencies are fine with it?

129
Banned for what?

130
It's not 'forbidden' (excluding logo and people content)... whether it gets accepted by the agencies is up to them, but I've never had any issues.

131
Usually only use footage of Earth from Orbit as seen from the ISS, otherwise the majority of them are still images, and the majority of the still images are planet texturea. Usually from their multimedia page.

132
Yep, quite a few of my videos contain planetary textures and Earth images from NASA, the images are public domain and allowed by all the stock agencies... as long as you don't include the NASA logo or any people.

134
I used to do a lot of freelance work (videos) so I often needed images, AE templates, graphics, music etc. Got them all from Envato as they have the lot and I could use my earnings balance to pay for them which was handy. Depended on my workload and the needs of the project but was probably spending anything from $20 to $250 a month. Very rarely do client work these days so it's not that often I buy stock.

135
Why on Earth would I have anybody's' addresses from Storyblocks? I assume you mean email addresses, but even then... just like every other stock site, it's not like the staff and the contributors are some big happy gang that go on outings and have meetups and poker at the weekend. I just upload my stuff and hope for some money every month like everyone else... I have no contact with them otherwise.

BlackBox ,Vimeo Stock
Vimeo is no longer accepting videos for over a year. And you yourself do not want to upload to stocks? I'm loading it myself, without any BlackBox there. It is unlikely that money will be added from downloading to BlackBox.
Well, there is also Stocksubmitter.

There's positives and negatives to it, which are going to vary depending on your circumstances and what you're looking to achieve, so they're right for some people and not for others.

137
I applied a couple of years ago, but they never got back to me. Might try again, nothing to lose... thanks for reminding me!

Yeah, BlackBox is just a distribution platform. You upload to them and they distribute to Shutterstock, Adobe, Envato, Pond5 and Vimeo Stock for a 15% cut. There's positives and negatives to it, which are going to vary depending on your circumstances and what you're looking to achieve, so they're right for some people and not for others. I'm not the biggest fan of theirs to be honest, but I have and do upload content there.

138
I've noticed the big change in earnings a couple of times before, thankfully all in my favour, but everytime the amount starts gradually reducing from the following days and I usually end up not making that much more than I would have done if there wasn't the massive jump. Like last time I had a 50% increase overnight, but it was about 10% up by the end of the month.

As for getting accepted, not really sure... I was automatically moved over to the partner program when they got rid of the marketplace.

Percentage of total income... about 20% for me, which is about two thirds of my Elements earnings. Both of them make up the same as my earnings from SS, Adobe, iStock and Pond5, Motion Array, Blackbox and VideoHive combined.

139
It's still $65 a month... it's only $30 a month if you pay for the full year upfront, which hasn't changed.

140
Had a big increase a few days ago. About 50% more.

141
And what are the odds those 50 members are on the payroll of some kind of fossil fuel company?

142
I think yesterday is always the best time to upload.

143
I usually fill it out on the 1st of the month, the first week of the 2nd month, at some point in the 3rd month, then I forget to do it for around 6 to 12 months and then the cycle starts again.

Adobe Stock / Re: Vertical Video at Adobe Stock
« on: July 10, 2022, 16:33 »
So you're saying poor stock footage is easier to create than high quality stock footage? What a novel concept, I wonder why nobody has discovered that before. If you're using that qualifier then of course, but you didn't. And without it, vertical stock footage is no different than horizontal stock footage. Bad footage is different to good footage, yes, but just because footage is vertical, doesn't automatically mean it's bad. I'm sure there's plenty of good vertical footage that is considerably better than bad horizontal footage... and all you need to shoot that bad horizontal footage, is a mobile phone and minimal skills.

No, it's the same for everything.

146
While I have several issues with sites like these, the majority of them are useful services that are a decent option for some, and not so much for others. While I have used Wirestock and BlackBox, I do prefer to upload my own content directly as I have more control over everything... I'd never advise anybody to never ever work with them. It's not like they're scamming people, not paying out earnings or stealing people's content... they pretty much do what they say on the tin, and what they provide will work for some and not for others depending on their priorities. To be honest, I think it's pretty disgusting that a competitor would write such an article which is full of exaggerations, half-truths and worst case situations.

If I could be bothered, I'd write a why you should never ever work with Xpiks... and I'd be sure to apply the same level of journalistic integrity that you have. But I can't. Maybe one day.

...vertical videos need only a phone and minimal skills. Anyone can make them.

Horizontal videos also need only a phone, minimal skills and anyone can make them. You just turn your phone 90 degrees.

Adobe Stock / Re: This year CC Bonus codes program?
« on: June 17, 2022, 06:59 »
He did ask whether there would be an 'Adobe CC bonus codes program' this year, not whether there would be 'Adobe CC bonus codes' this year. While it was slightly ambiguous, I'll give you that, he did clarify slightly further down in the thread... amd I'm pretty sure everyone was already aware of the 2021 program for 2022 codes by the time this thread was created.

I personally don't think anyone should be exclusive with any agency when it comes to video. I don't think it's possible for the 50% or so increase to cover the amount you'd make from all the other agencies out there. And if they cut your revenue, go bust, you get suspended etc etc for whatever reason... it's going to take a lot of time and afford to get your stuff back out there elsewhere.
