Ruxpriencdam has a point though. It has been explained numerous times, but many ignore it and keep coming up with different theories.

Admins dont come in and explain the same thing over and over again. The searches are being tweaked, trying to bring new content in front of the buyers. Its a mix of popular, new files, throw in a bit of geography, some ports get hit, some ports thrive. Bottom line is, SS is doing better.

I understand that people feel hard done by when their best seller for 7 years drops to page 5 but consider this. If you go buy a car, and you go to the car dealer and you find the same cars for 7 years up in the showroom, at some point you go elsewhere. Now if those cars get shuffled every now and then and new shiny cars are displayed, you might come back more often because you know there will always something new.

I know its not the perfect example but you get my point. And for those who say, that a popular image earned its place, sure, 7-5 years ago. If you keep that up, new files never get a chance, and thats not what an agency wants. They got popular when there were only a million images on line and you only had a few people submitting images.

I know I will get slated over this, but its not to upset anyone, its just my view on the matter. If it had been my images that got hit, I would be upset as well. But in the end there is nothing we can do about it. The agency decides and we have to take it or leave.

Its a shame though, I just read on the SS board someone saying people photoshop their sales to look better to create a fuss over on the Shutterstock forum, and then come back here to make fun of the crowd over there. I have never seen anything like that happen. What is up with the gang war between MSG and SS? LOL  :)

It doesn't help when someone tells us this forum is a waste of space and that they will never post here again, or words to that effect, then come back under another name a little time later.  It doesn't take long for them to start the insults again and probably tell us they think this forum is a waste of time and that they will never post here again.  It gets a bit tedious.  I wish we could all just stick with the original name we had when we first posted here.

The SS forum is OK but I don't think we can talk as freely over there and I get sick of all the threads that are only being used to pimp latest uploads.  This forum is more serious, even if there are a percentage of people that like to play games and don't have anything sensible to say.  There's always the ignore button but people don't seem to like using that.

I changed my name to come out of the woodwork, and it feels like a chip fell off my shoulder.

I never used the ignore button, not even for trolls. Everybody makes a good point every now and then, some more then others.

It seems that the ones calling this a zoo, are the ones that closed their account or got banned, but still lurk here to copy over comments and then discuss it on the SS forum. But if you check some of the threads here, it seems they were the ones making this a zoo. I find this forum pretty good, some spats here and there, but its all good entertainment.

We have gone off topic. I am going to make me a fried egg sandwich with ham and cheese and then off to work.

You have got to be kidding right?

You can get away with a lot more over there then you ever will here unless you are one of the special paid members who get away with more because they help to support the site.

I got banned from here for over a month for asking a simple question and the other involved party got less then a week ban because they special and they are a paid member.

I saved all of the deleted posts before Tyler deleted them.

I think that is a bit paranoid of you.  I don't think that Leaf is going to have favourites just because somebody pays 25$ a year.

It is the same Ego's that cause problems on any forum they frequent.  At least here you could set the braggers and brown noser's to ignore, thou I don't because I find them entertaining.

Some of them are happy to see that ports with many images on first page searches are dropping in sales.  I suppose they are happy to find some of those sales in their pocket.  They will not be so happy when it happens to them.

I just checked and a file SS has been touting as an all time best seller has dropped off the front page searches. In its place are more than a few copycat images. If this move is across the board with all best sellers, I am sure there are some people who count on that money hurting.  They worked hard to get many of those in their ports and depend on that money to feed their families.

Nice move SS

As usual we are off topic.  How long do you suppose it will be before the site goes down again or pops up with a nasty new bug. I guess those here who never experience missing ports don't care.  After all it is not affecting their own sales and they won't care until it finally hits them.  But rest assure it is spreading to more and more people these days.  Not just a select few of us anymore.

I am one of the people that isnt hit, my sales keep plodding on. But I do not necessarily feel happy about others losing sales.

A 'test' of this nature is utterly meaningless unless you know the actual keywords (used by buyers) that made it a best-seller. It's not always the most obvious keywords. The image in question might well be on the front page of searches using different search terms. Even the order of the search terms used makes a difference ... 'meeting business' will bring up different results to 'business meeting' for example.

You weren't ever banned for asking a simple question.  I also don't delete posts, I just moved them to a hidden area.

You were banned for being negative and derogatory to other members, then the final straw was when you wrote this post

You assume we are all idiots.  I happen to know the keyword because I had an image sitting right next to it for well over two years.  They are both hidden from buyers now under a pile of images, some of them with an insignificant number of downloads.  How do I know that? A few of my very low selling images are visible to buyers on the second and third pages using the same keyword.

Shutterstock have already said new contributors are favored. That quote is somewhere buried on their forum. I dont think they target specific portfolios to apply bugs.

No they didn't Poncke read the quoe you wrote.

I believe you are mixing up a few comments there. But whatever floats your boat. I have read a comment from an Admin saying new portfolios are given a chance in the search. I just cant find it.

Shutterstock is very unresponsive, long load times, time outs. Other websites seem to be fine. Is Shutterstock again having issues? I read complaints on SS that sales are very slow today as well. Related? One wonders. I had a slow day as well, only 20 sales, mostly subs.

My sales are as normal.  Pretty good day in fact.  I'm not having any problems with SS today.  Just me?

20 sales is actually average, but its slow compared to the last week. The site is problematic for me this evening.

It seems the up and down cycles are not just at DT.  Some days, like this afternoon, my account at SS seems to completely shut down; not even a forum post.  It is something over which I have no control.  Regardless, it is terribly frustrating.

With DT doing nothing and SS going on and off, I am having a better month at iS.  This mus be my up cycle at iS -- And, iS is not rolling in dough.   :P

Then again, this is June.   :(

Upload/submissions are shonky this morning.

FTP'd 10 files up. Went through the checking keywords/captions phase and did the "submit again" thing after they spotted my keyword "errors" to have a few bounce back with captions swopped and a few keywords mingled amongst the wrong images.

Something's wrong at Shutterstock Towers...

Whenever shutterstock sales are low, I open my box of flytieing feathers materials and stick a couple in the hair and go down in the garden and do a pagan feather dance.
In pagan the gold dance and  the feather dance are related and are sure to bring prosperity and downloads to the performer.
And since its quite easy to do and do not take a long time, i have always managed to get my downloads come back in a day or two.

in other words.
We have 20 million picures, and a lot less search words, what do you expect?
Im surprised that old pictures sell  even sometimes.

One thing I can conclude is that ss sells a lot of pictures.

Does it have to be the garden or would just dancing in the yard work?
I'll have to use my turkey feathers.
