I have submitted a lot of what I think are good editorial images with all the relevant keywords. All to no avail.

I would recommend posting on their contributor forum and they'll be happy to give you some tips.

They're generally a friendly bunch (as long as you don't mention Microstock).  :D

On the contary, I find a lot of them sardonic and clicky. One or two helpful though.

« on: October 13, 2017, 03:01 »
I am absolutely stunnedby how bad SS sales have dropped in the last year. October is looking tragic and set to fail at making payout. Sometimes a video sale here and there would pull me though but no longer, even though I have recently added a lot more footage. Has anyone else found it unbelievably dire of late ?

So demotivating.

Alamy is absolutely awfull for sales. Once in a blue moon, and those blue moons are getting fewer, with more images added and less pay for any sales I do make over time.

They're a predominately editorial agency, so the usual stock stuff on micros won't cut it on there. They also have some keywording particularities.

Software - General / Why is Lightroom so slow ?
« on: August 21, 2017, 14:34 »
Since I upgraded to the latest version of Lightroom I find it even slower than the last version. Once you start layering brushes it's painfully slow and I have a reasonably decent PC. Even worse is when it backs up, it takes an eternity and makes EVERYTHING else on the pc almost unusable until it has finished. Great tool but horribly slow.

Getting fed up with their "Old Images With No Downloads" emails. Who cares, they  are absolutely useless.

Dead Dead Dead Dead Dead! :-\

I can go weeks and weeks and still see my earnings to be the same. I wish I could just remove everything.

I stopped uploading to DT a while ago no point. Dead and the rest are dying. 2017 is a car crash year for my business income. I will have to look at part time work if it continues.

Thanks. You mean claim it back as a taxable expense on my self assessment ?

iStockPhoto.com / Tax interview - Where do I find it
« on: April 26, 2017, 02:48 »
I can't believe that my statement shows that I have been deducted 30% tax from my US earnings when in fact I remember filling out a tax interview with my US tax number as a UK resident. Can anyone tell me where I find this illusive form to fill in yet again as I can't find it. Also, when filled in will they reimburse me with the tax I have already been charged ?

the whole new system is a nightmare. Why oh why did they change it from istock ?

Thanks for the tip off about Affinity. Looks like a better and cheaper option than PS.

Software - General / Upgrading to Lightroom 6
« on: March 11, 2017, 15:32 »
I am in a dilemma as I am still on Lightroom 5 standalone and want to upgrade to 6. I have never used Photoshop so not sure it will be needed as Lightroom does so much. I am tempted by the CC cloud version of both combined but as I have already bought into the standalone LR it may be counter cost effective.

Can anyone tell me if they think the CC way to go is good, is Photoshop an essential tool for general stock (I don't shoot with people) or is it better to wait for LR 7 and pay for the upgrade to that ?

Thanks

Many of my top keywords that I originally selected in the old system have not been included in the supertags which makes more work. Also there are duplicates that haven't been flagged by their system. Other sites will not let you enter the same keyword twice but Alamy has no detection. What is also annoying is when editing one set of keywords, you have to go back and manually uncheck the last file you have been working on otherwise the two will be combined in the edit.

I don't make audio for ss, they refused me despite me selling pro and royalty free in broadcast etc. They know as much about audio as Envito knows about photography.

Well 2017 is utterly crap and getting crapper. What's the point. :-\

Whatever the reason it's all gone crappy. Sales in every income stream for me (music/sfx/image) have diminished drasticly in the last 12-18 months. Producing more and more work doesn't even keep you running on the spot anymore. I feel like I am under the table of a feast scrabbling around for dropped crumbs only the crumbs are less and less.

In 6 years my house will be paid for so that's my goal. After that the pressure will be off somewhat.

Probably a few on here doing well can't appreciate the slump unless it happens to them. Stop attacking us for complaining of poor sales. We have every right to complain. I have added a considerable amount to my port but like a switch my sales turned off. That isn't normal, that is engineered.

As for sales, it's still diabolical.

Over a cliff big time. Absolutely trashed my sales. I fear this is the law of diminishing returns.

In 2010 you wrote this. Seems like nothing much has changed? Did you ever get much accepted at SS?

Terrible month. Photo sales have dropped every month this year so far. Dec up to now is even worse. Absolutely awful.

So are you in denial that SS sales have nosedived in the last month ? Have you read the forums ? Since they changed the site.

And for your interest I get almost every image accepted.
