The national bird of Indonesia is the Eagle (Garuda) and the national airline carrier is named after the bird too. And the planes often plummet, similar to this eagle or overshoot their runways :-) I think they should change the name of the carrier to something like Swan Air.

haha, brilliant!! That's so funny. You know I often go weeks or months without hearing anyone speak English and it's probably years since I've heard someone say "might aswell get shitfaced now". Excellent, thanks for posting that!

most of the yanks fully support unconditionally the neo colonialist wars america is waging in north africa and middle east,..
But a lot of them don't though. A lot of Americans are unhappy about their country's foreign pursuits. Quote from lisafx, earlier in the thread. "Unfortunately, nearly every election we have is split straight down the middle 50/50. So for every messed up imperialistic policy that is implemented, pretty much half of us don't support it. Oftentimes more than half of us are opposed. But we all seem to be tarred with the same brush."

I really wouldn't want to be an american tourist. I mean where can you go and not be hated? Or even in great danger. I wouldn't want to be Canadian as well. You're too easily mistaken for an American
Very nice. How are Americans supposed to broaden our world view and stop being so nationalistic if we are forced to stay home in our isolationist little world because people like you want to convince us we are all under threat of our lives every time we leave the country?
My daughter is going to be traveling to Europe in the next few weeks. Are you saying I should fear for her life?!! Maybe I should keep her locked in her room so ignorant, bigoted sh1tbags don't kill her? Really??!!!
(And yeah, I know you were joking - sort of - but the funny to mean ratio was way off. Total fail.)
LOL! I got the feeling that anti-American feelings have subsided in recent years and I haven't met an American on my travels who calls himself Canadian in such a long time, it felt like everyone was doing that at one time. I don't know if that had something to do with that nice "bring em on" fellow being at the helm. The best thing about America, is that there are at most only two terms, phew! I wish more countries would have that.

Strange - i see them in Media files - overview link.
Well that is very strange. Only approved or unfinished items in my list. The rejected items are nowhere to be seen. It would be great if Corareed could look in to this and reply here.

And honesty is another frequently used excuse. It's like if you are being "honest" you have the right to say anything, no matter how cruel
Exactly, that's why it's called honesty. If you hear only what you like, it's hypocrisy. I'm all for honesty, at least I know where I'm at. Better than to hear later on what ppl are talking behind your back and really think about you. You don't waste time with ppl you don't get along with for instance. Or you know your pants are appalling. Sure it may not be nice hearing it from your friends, but still better than go out wearing them and be laughing stock in the club
Being honest can still be done with diplomacy. It doesn't mean you have to pick the cruelest and nastiest form of delivery that you can think of.
Am I allowed a +1 on an istock thread?

I almost missed this thread, I think the title put me off While we're on the subject of humour. America has had some great comedians. I remember watching Bill Hicks and Denis Leary on vhs probably, at Uni. and they absolutely cracked me up. Hence it always bemuses me why so many Americans (not all of them of course) don't get things which are obviously humorous. Why do so many of them take what u say literally. I always have to put "I'm joking", after a sentence, as I know there is a good chance of them not getting it. Maybe leaf should put flags of our countries besides our usernames, so it's easier for people to figure out if the comment is likely to be serious or not. I have relatives in the states and until the age of 14, I went there quite often. I remember watching a film there with my sis. and even though I was probably no more than 10, the subtle jokes in the film which were really quite funny, me and my sister were laughing, but kept on feeling awkward as nobody else was. When the gory, shocking moments of the film came, a lot of the audience were laughing. This is such a distinct memory as it was so surreal. I've tried to embed a video here, but can't figure out how to do it, but you can see it on my blog. The British guy is completely making fun of the American, as he is taking (intentionally) everything the American says literally and the American guy just doesn't know how to react, or really realise that the Brit is doing nothing but having a laugh. It's hilarious! I think it is important to master understanding humour and learn not to take yourself too seriously. Americans may be great at so many things but they are usually second best to the British when it comes to humour. http://www.microstockposts.com/bing-the-decision-engine-powered-by-google/

Has anyone noticed that cc don't show rejected files anymore? We neither get an email notification for rejected files nor can we see them online. I hope we get to see them when they roll out the new stats.

Today, I noticed that I had an image downloaded twice on BigstockPhoto. Once for $1.00 and once for $0.00. Anyone else seeing anything like this or have any ideas?
I notice that the image is called Chef with vegetables and the first download of $0.00 came 15 minutes before the $1 one. Maybe the vegetables had to pass health and safety first before the sale went through.

Here's my take on it and a few extreme examples. LinkJust a note, for a while we had to log in each time we entered the submitter site, even if we were always using the same computer. Now, I'm just kept logged in if using the same computer, so don't have to face the dreaded captcha so much.

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone. But I always thought that they were treated as 2 different accounts. If you are on submit.shutterstock.com and then search for images u get taken to shutterstock.com which is for buyers, hence you get logged out. I've never bought images from ss, but I think you may need different login details for one.

Oh yes, I forgot about "Faved". I always add new images in the faved folder, and those images have most downloads. And from time to time, if I see that some image doesn't have enough downloads even it's placed in there, I exclude it from faved, and add a new one.
Can you still do that? Last time I looked I couldn't see anything to click on to remove a previous "fave". Maybe it moved or am I missing something? Regards, David.
Yes you can still do that. When on the my fave images page, make sure you click "My Fave Images" and not the "My Images" to remove favourite images, then go back to "my images" to add new ones.

Try PhotoStock, software for microstocks photography sellers, for editing IPTC. List of images in one place.
- copy and paste IPTC data - search in IPTC - offline (archive) folders only with thumbnails - and more...

Is there an English language version?
Yes, it's default. If somewhere is a bad translation, I fix it.
It's in another language for me. Because of the settings icon, I think Moznosti means settings right?

It makes perfect sense for an agency to raise prices on popular images
I don't quite understand the logic of that. Why would a buyer want to pay more for an image that so many others are using?
Weird huh? I always search under 'newest'. I know that eventually the images I buy will oneday be bought many times, but at least I can be fresh for a while and when it most counts.

Back to the original theme
I have noticed that in the last few years female actresses no longer refer to themselves as actresses but as actors . . . . . when did this change? Has it always been like that and I didn't notice?
I think the word actor is gender neutral..but I think you are right that it is becoming more common for females to be called actors
It's really rather funny, isn't it? On he/she some people object to "he" being used as gender-neutral because it is sexist, but actresses are rejecting the female specific term for themselves - also on the grounds of sexism - and adopting the term for males.
Authoresses have also rejected the sexist suffix and become authors, but I feel reasonably confident that a female actor would feel slighted if she was referred to as a "screen god" but would delight in being a "screen goddess".
Isn't language fun?
Yes with English being one of the funnier ones. I live in Bali now and I'm pretty fluent in Indonesian. I really like using it as it's pretty logical and for day to day conversation you can say what you want to say using very few words, often just using one word is enough. Just think of all the money people save on their phone bills. The word they have for him and her is genderless, they just say dia, pronounced deea. Also the word Goddess doesn't exist and neither does landlady, landladies are called landlords too and they don't have actors or actresses and authors or authoresses, they just say stars and writers.

Completely of the topic, without googling it, can u name the film? I've taken out who says what.
It can all end, right now. Peace. Bliss. Just say it. Cry out mercy. Mercy...mercy! Cry out. Just say it. Mercy. Mercy lad, mercy. Jesus, mercy. The prisoner wishes to say a word. FREEEEE-DOMMMMMM!!!!!

Sometimes that "similar" thing can get really ridiculous. I submitted a bunch of "editorial" stuff from a motorcycle race. Many were rejected for "similar." Hell... it's a motorcycle race. They are all on motorcycles; of course they are similar!!!
Haha so we if we go to a motorcycle race and take photos, we can only submit one photo. Well if that is the case then they should pay us 50 dollars a download and then we won't complain about rejecting similars. When I buy photos I love seeing different variations of the same model or the same scene and I will choose the most appropriate one for me and other people will choose different ones.

KKT's Foot-in-month Quote of the Day: "Expansion has been tough for the company, though, because of a contributor payment system that the company judged financially unsustainable. A switch last year to a performance-based compensation scheme was painful, but in the end, only about 0.1 percent of the more than 100,000 contributors were dramatically affected, Thompson said. Run that past me again...
"It didn't really affect most people," Thompson said. "Everyone sort of settled down."
And if we didn't, we were LOBOtomised.
Lies, damned lies, statistics and spin.
The quote "but in the end, only about 0.1 percent of the more than 100,000 contributors were dramatically affected" has since been edited out but you can still see the original version here. http://breakingnews24hrs.net/techonology/expansion-istockphoto-makes-the-top-video-game-range/Also for those who missed my blog update I'm posting my latest blog post again here, which I started writing after reading this thread. It's definitely a good feeling on ss once you get in. All those sales pouring in. Congrats, i've seen you write a few times about trying to get in as a photographer. Glad you finally made it.

I wouldn't give up on editorials though. Probably the place where you are going to get the biggest bang for the buck is Alamy or some other RM site that takes editorial.
Yeah, I'm happy enough with regular editorial sales on micros. Even editorial images on 123rf have taken off (for me). Would just be nice to get some editorial Els once in a while. I only realised about a couple of months ago that my camera is now good enough, without having to do a 48mb dance routine for Alamy, so I'm uploading there. No sales yet, but still early days.

Thanks for your responses. So it does seem like it's pretty rare then. I think there would be very little need, as a standard license on Dreamstime for example, allows up to 500,000 copies if the use is for printed materials. I'm not sure how many publications have in excess of this figure, but I imagine most publications have less. The Guardian Newspaper for example, which is a major paper in the UK has a daily circulation of around 300,000 copies. If the agencies lowered the limits on standard licenses for editorial images, extended licenses may get a boost, at least in respect to printed materials.
