most sites have the rule that no copyright keywords are allowed either. which includes then chevy, chevrolet...
Actually, words cannot be copyrighted. But sites still have keyword rules based on non-existent laws...

Me neither ... but to re-disambiguate it (I made up that word) I opened it in the editing screen again, added a couple of sort of relevant keywords, removed a couple that I thought were the least relevant, checked a few more boxes here and there, and saved it once more.
Still hasn't sold, but at least it's appearing in searches now.

The StockXpert newsletter just came out and they reported over 320,000 images online.
So this now moves them up a spot (above CanStockPhoto) into 7th place.

I haven't seen this, but i'm a little confused by the reaction. How is sending out the raw different from a jpg? If you don't shoot in raw, the original is a jpg. If I don't modify my jpg, I am always sending the original. It's not like sending the negative, because you still have the raw file and own the rights.
Everyone works differently, so mileage will vary. Some people take a photo and then send it to the review queue. These type of people typically believe in quantity. They also believe that they shouldn't be editing files, because time is money and they would rather be shooting more images to upload. So these people might take 100 photos and send all 100. Other people want to only send the best images. So they will wade thru the 100 photos and pick a few that they believe are the best. They will also post-process them to see if they can make them "better". Personally, I do the second. I edit each image. I believe in quality (at least in my eyes). (And please don't take that the wrong way. I am not saying that my images are better than others). I don't believe that I have ever sent an original. And if I have it was by mistake. Every file that I send, I post-process. I will modify the levels, contrast, hue, saturation, noise reduction, etc. to make a file the best it can be. So even though I might shoot in JPG mode, the image that I send can be very different from the original. This also protects me in case of any sort of ownership/copyright issue (since I have the original).

I understand the point about RAW being "the original", but in the end isn't it the same as selling a EPS/AI vector file instead of the JPG generated from it?
Yes, I believe that it is. And that (IMO) is why vectors sell much better than JPGs (because they are the original and can be modified at will to create other images).

how much more will you be getting?
According to the DT website (@ http://www.dreamstime.com/sellimages.php) , you receive $2 for the sale of an additional format (which includes RAW).

# SS seem to be closing the gap between them and iS
I wonder if that's because of the major hassle now involved in 'tagging' (as they cal it) when submitting to iStock. I know my heart sinks when I see that long list and a load of 'Did you mean?'s
They've been closing the gap for quite some time now, but the new tagging system probably does help...

There is a slight compensation (RAWS cost more for the buyer), but I don't think that it is enough to compensate for selling an original.
IMO, if they want to buy the RAW, then they need to pay me MUCH more...

DT is looking for individuals to sign up to become "Keymasters" (people that will keyword images for .20/image). Submitters will then be able to upload images without keywords, and then the Keymasters would keyword the image. The submitter would be charged .20 and this would be applied to the Keymasters account. Keywords created by Keymasters won't be viewable for the first 3 months (so that you can't copy them to your other images in a series). What do you guys think of this? Does Flickr have an EUL (end-user license) that says that uploads are FREE to use for business purposes? If so, then I could see it as a threat.
But if they don't, then someone can't LEGALLY use the image without the express permission of the author. They would have to contact the author, which takes time and there is no guarantee that the author would allow use of the image in question.

Wow is this a first, FT actually paying attention to one of your posts at their forum?
Well, maybe with all of the microstock fiascos happening, and contributors starting to band together, they are starting to listen. They might have also watched the iStock/VOX fiasco and learned something. It would have been better if they had made the announcement on their website themselves, but a quick response was the best that one could ask for in this situation. Now if they would only listen to their contributors and allow modifications to keywords AFTER an image has been accepted...

I posted a question on the Fotolia forum about the new partnership and here is the response from admin: "Hello
This is a normal type of promotion deal. The cost of all that is paid for by Fotolia entirely.
It does not affect what a photographer gets paid.
The way these deals work is: if people are offered any free downloads, Fotolia pays for these and the photographer gets paid in full.
If a discount is offered, the buyer buys, say, 10 credits, Fotolia tops up that with the extra credits. Again, Fotolia is paying for these credits.
So we are paying people to come and try your images out.
In the case of Easyspace, all new members get 3 free credits. This gets them registered and trying the service out, after which we hope they will become regular buyers.
I hope this stops any concerns over this.
Fotolia always pays. The photographers never lose out a thing.
You will benefit as we gain more customers. If people come, try the freebies, then stop, Fotolia will still pay the photographers.
So, this is another great thing Fotolia do for its photographers, helping to make Fotolia the best stock photography company for photographers and buyers around the world.

Bataleur:
It might be helpful if you defined what a "little worse" was vs. a "lot worse". If not, then everyone will use their own definition and the results might be skewed.
You might want to try to define the terms in a percentage of last months totals. For example, a "little worse" might be from -1% to -25%, and a "lot worse" might be > -25%. FYI: I have heard a lot of people complaining about being down 40% or more.

Getty just reported their earnings. I hvaen't read but no one commented that they are in trouble. Still earning $800m per year and iStock is only about 5% of business.
Getty is definitely in trouble. Their revenue ($800 million) came in below estimates (which were around $825 million). After they reported earnings their stock price dropped 15%. Not only that but they cut their outlook. And while their #s are dropping, iStock's #s are going thru the roof. You can read about it here: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/h?s=GYI

bhphoto is a really great cheap place as well. I have bought a fair bit from them.
I was born and raised in NYC and used to purchase all of my equipment from B&H Photo, since they were the cheapest place and had a fantastic selection. I have been doing business with them for over 20 years. With the advent of the Internet, they are no longer the cheapest, but they have great customer service and you can't go wrong with them. I recently purchased a Canon 30D from them. I got the camera, took about a half-dozen photos, and the camera died. It wouldn't start up no matter what I did. They exchanged the camera, and even paid for the freight charges both ways. I can't recommend them enough...

I noticed that PixVue seems to keep a "dictionary" of words that you have used. Is there any way to edit that "dictionary"?
