iStockPhoto.com / Re: IS Search engine
« on: October 18, 2006, 06:12 »
Tell us how it turned out...
Berryspun, I saw that same posting and after having an image at the front of the search on 'best match' yesterday only to see it completely disappear and at the risk of getting in trouble, i sent this note to my IS creative network this morning... y'all are free to try it if you'd like (yes i'm spamming)

Hi y'all

would you please indulge me for a bit? To tell you the truth right up front, i'm asking for a favor - to have you rate an image for me - if you don't want to take the time, that's fine you can stop reading and delete.

There's been lots of discussion about the new "best match" searches on the forums. Yesterday, I had an image that is new suddenly start selling a ton... so i went and did a search and low and behold, if you did a 'best match' search for "palm tree" it was on the first page! So, i was enjoying the new found sales on an image (one that is also selling pretty well on other sites too so it was good to see it pop up here too).

Anyway, I changed ONE tiny little keyword yesterday afternoon and now it has dropped off the chart on any search (and so have the downloads).

Someone this morning suggested that ratings are now playing a part in Best Match (and they probably have all along too) but he said he checked his image and since it had no ratings it wasn't appearing until after all the images that had ratings... well guess what, my image doesn't have any ratings either... so I thought, maybe it would change things and get my image back toward the front if I had some ratings.

here's the url:
http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup.php?id=2117180

I've not asked my CN to do anything like this before and I honestly don't blame you if you don't want to do it, but if you would, would you please go to this image and rate it?

I'll post any changes here.

For a few of my images I somehow lost the Exif data, which is not bad, because I dindn#t care about it. But could it be, if you saved them as PSD and than back at Jpeg that they somehow loose the data? I never had a problem to submit original 3mp images collaged to more than 6 mp. And 6mp to collaged up to 15Mp. Regarding the size, they never complained.

yep i have had a number of images rejected because they saw the image come from a canon 10D and it was too large of a file...... HOWEVER... they didn't take the time to realize that it was a collage of a number of images which is why the size was so large :(

Yes I got sales too and there are more about three times as much sales as at LO, but mainly through one picture. Got 11 dls on this one already. I just have 20 images on there..and stopped uploading, just have a dial-up connection right now.. And although it is better than LO that does not mean too much. Still one day at SS or IS is as one month on Gala. And I do not know how much future that site has.

HI Beisea,

that could be because you just joined 3 month ago. In the first month you will get a lot of sales, later they will drop p/image. But I am surprised they dropped for you so much since you have almost 3 times as much photos..

SS sales really slows down the last two month, ( this is my third month ) 1st month is the best, I have the record sales of 50 DL one day with less than 250 images, now this month I have over 630 images, but I have been average 12-15 per day, not even a 20 dl day.

Anyone else experience slow down at SS?

Yes Record Sales.. I agree.. Everywhere on the big 4 IS, SS, DT, FT

General Stock Discussion / Re: Strange Sales Rates
« on: October 10, 2006, 02:50 »
Shutterstock earnings more than doubled for me the last two months through 2 images which are selling surprisingly well added in late June/early August. Since that I have not added a lot of images, now for almost a month I have uploaded none and there is almost no drop recogniceable..
That makes me happy, regarding that there can be times with good earnings at SS without working on the Portfolio. So you can have a break :-)

Its working again! Just discovered it was a really good day on istock yesterday. I think this month my istock earnigs will take over dt earnings for the first time although dt earnings have been quite good the last two months. I am happy with istock. The per picture earning is higher than at shutterstock, which by far is my best earning site. So I can live with just 20 %..

General Stock Discussion / Re: Selling via e-mail
« on: October 02, 2006, 17:52 »
Thanks guys! It started that this person found an image from me on StockXpert which he wanted to download, but the resolution was to small for his purpose. It is about a card catlogue of a library. I told him, I only have a close up from it in higher resolution. So he wanted samples.. But probably he couldn't find them on StockXpert so I guess I will just refer him to it. I guess it was a genuine request, however he can get the image he asked for via StockXpert with less effort for me and being save on ethical :). No penguins this time  :)

General Stock Discussion / Selling via e-mail
« on: October 02, 2006, 10:54 »
Just have a question, is it legal if people contact you via a microstocksite to send them sample photos via e-mail, and then sell them to them, without involving the microstocksite? Probably it is somewhere written down on the stocksites if it is not leagal, but I do not have the time to go through them right now.. I just received an e-mail from a guy on StockXpert to send him samples.. Maybe someone knows..

I just bought a photo data bank, which has 40 Gigabytes. It is like an eternal hardisc working on battery with a card reader. So I do not need anymore to buy high capacity compact flash cards. That is much cheaper. And you can use it with a lot of different cards. I had it for my 2 week vacation. It worked perfectly..

But if we are so kind to pray for the health of the LO staff, they might do a better marketing and review our files faster. We might be blessed with more sales :-) However lets pray for the staff without expecting sth for ourself, thats the proper prayer :)

(and pray for that the staff will feel better soon).
I am too busy praying for more sales at LO.  Still a tad to slow though apparently they still haven't started their marketing.

I am new to LO, is it normal, that the review time of your images takes over two weeks? They have not been reviewed yet. They are my first submitted images..

Why should they do constantly fake sales? If there is a steady income of fake sales I am happy :) They have pending files in the queue from me, so why should they take the time to fake dowenload my images instead of reviewing my pics? That makes no sense. But who knows.. I will take the risk on this new site..

Yeah it was me, thanx :-), I guess I was lucky :-) Yes it was a good week, when I had the Free Image of the week. A lot of reviews and 4 new people for the creative network. That week I might have got 50% more dls than normaly which is not to amazing, but lets see what happens, when that image isnt for free anymore..

I accidentally found it right after posting! ;)

Btw. wasn't that you who had the free pic of the week at iStock recently? Congrats! Did you get a lot of downloads as a result?
