Discusin en Espaol / Re: palabras clave complejas?
« on: April 14, 2019, 07:31 »

Pond5 / Re: Review time on Pond5
« on: April 14, 2019, 07:29 »
Hello!

What is your experience about the review time on pond5? Previously it was just a few days but recently I have photos and videos which been uploaded 2-3, even 4 weeks ago, but the status is still "pending review".
Weird, do they have model/property release? Mine are accepted almost the same day

My top seller on SS.

https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/amazon-black-piranha-teeth-1104578060

Taken with a Sony Mavica CD-300 in 2002.  Just sells and sells and sells.  Go figure.  ???
Pretty creepy hahaha

DepositPhotos / Re: Depositphotos - No more categories (?)
« on: April 13, 2019, 22:47 »
I just noticed that the choice of categories has disappeared ...

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed. Meanwhile we have Dreamstime who have enough categories to fill the Black Hole. Do you think DT will finally come to its senses and realize that contributors AND buyers don't want to waste their time filling out their time consuming form?
Never

I upload to iStock and Canva, so my photos are duplicated then? That's why they are all rejected?

Phew - what a month! $9650 earned from my activities.

OK - it is the first of April, but it was a very good month - best ever, with $3663 earned. Full details, as usual, are here: https://www.backyardsilver.com/2019/04/april-1-report-on-earnings-from-stock-photos/

If you want an email each time I post something on the blog, you can sign up in the top right. I'm going to work on a what sold where post in the next day or two.

Actually - I think the similar images are okay.

If there are only 1-2 images to chose from, then sometimes I am disappointed. But if the model has 30-40 different poses/hand gestures/etc - then many times I can find that

Consider the negative impact on future sales though...

If I have 3 or 4 poses (the most I would ever post of "similar"), then all my sales are concentrated on those 3 or 4.  I have 40, then they are spread over 40.

Assume every photo sells equally (not likely I know, but makes it easier to show the math).  Assume also that I sell 100 images a month from this photo shoot.

If I have 3 images, that means each image sold 33 times, or roughly once per DAY.  If I have 40 images, each images sells a little less than once per MONTH.  Identical revenue the first month, but what about 6 months down the line?

6 months later, you can either have 3 images that sell each and every day, or 40 images that sell once every 5 weeks.  Which do you expect will be higher in the search results after 6 months?

If you have 40 images, they will drop far off the first page.  Yes, since they do occasionally sell, they will still (maybe) be on the first dozen pages or so. If you have 3 and they sell every single day, then they will probably show up on the first page (or close to it) -- meaning you will have far higher sales from this photo shoot over the long haul.

FWIW, I have one of those "sells every single day" images. I had 3 in the original submission. The other two sold once a month or so initially, and now no sales for the past 6 months.  The other continues to sell every single day after 2 years -- it sold 3 times yesterday in fact.

You are right about that, but I think it's still better to have 5-10 from the same series to have just 3. More than 15 is just exaggeration or a very hot seller.

Lots of rejections. I had a good series of photos and only one was accepted, why the others don't? Most of them still in review. I thought they were going to change the contributor page but it's still the same crappy bs

Interesting. It's weird AS is so dead. Maybe you are selling a lot of editorials?

Enviado desde mi ALP-L29 mediante Tapatalk

Thanks! Yes, this seems to be the main reason - something like 60-65% of my images are editorial as my niche is travel. I've only managed just over 3,000 images on AS vs 9,400 on SS. Alamy I have 10,500.

I think it's a blip month and should expect $75-100 months going forward!
AS should accept editorials too. BTW, nice picture you sold in alamy.

Actually - I think the similar images are okay.

Many times people will want that "perfect" pose - and it works much, much better if they have several to chose from.

I have purchased stock, in addition to producing it. Many times - if I see an image/video - I will want that "perfect" pose that fits in with my theme/content. If there are only 1-2 images to chose from, then sometimes I am disappointed. But if the model has 30-40 different poses/hand gestures/etc - then many times I can find that "perfect" image that looks great.

So I think that is fine.
I totally agree.

I have taken some science photos and I tend to vary a lot the background showing blurred equipment and colors. It might be similar but some people would want one or another. I don't see any problem unless it's toooo similar.

There should be a variation between the main topics tho. Just people against black or white background might be seen as limited portfolio

Look at my portfolio of 21,000 images! It will help raise my rank in most relevant.

Haha, is that true? If so - I suppose smart too :)

Make it more realistic, not just white or black background. You could also try editorials?

How do you complete multiple releases for a series instead of having to do a release for each photo?
If the photo is taken the same day with the same model you can use the same model release for all. Maybe "easy release" can help?

topsimages only offers the watermarked preview anyone can download for free.  They also offer a link to purchase the image.  I have no problem with them.
Sorry, but it is not true.
If you click on "Download image" you will get the image at the indicated resolution, without any watermark.
It IS true for photos from agencies. Of course some photos are without watermark because they are from other sites (rfclipart.com, christmascentral.com, jmorrisflowers.com, elvy.com...) but ALL my photos that come from agencies are watermarked. Specially from Dreamstime... So there is no problem with that. (Has anyone find your OWN photos without watermark??)

l have no idea why anyone would need this shot but they do, over and over . . . inside of a circus tent

That's a nice photo!!

This old thread popped up, and I realized it might be relevant for some. Same old comments even 9 years ago... Race to the bottom, too much competition, evil agencies...

So, anyone still doing stock from the beginning of this thread (2010)?
As I was reading, I thought it was from this year. When I realized it was from 2010 I thought maybe that was all paranoia

174
Are you sure you can download your pictures or is it just a reseller for your material in other stock sites?

love to see an old thread resurrected!

I've got a pic of my feet on the beach, such a cliche, from my early days, it's also one of my oldest images, and the editing is terrible, but it's in the top line at SS and is hands down my best seller. I've reshot the concept, with better editing, and those don't sell at all. I have 2 images, image of sunset over farmland, one has been "properly" edited with multiple exposures to included the  properly exposed sky and balanced foreground, the other is one of the set, with the fully blown out sky being all white, that one has sold well and the other "correct" image.... 0 sales. These aren't regular sellers but I often think of how customers don't see the flaws we see. Some technical flaw that would render an image "ugly" to me doesn't even register with customers. Reminds me to lighten up and relax a bit, and makes me want to say the same to editors.
You never know if a picture you consider ugly ends up selling constantly...
