Illustration - General / Re: how to 'frame' eps vector
« on: April 06, 2013, 08:15 »
I select the box and made the artboard fit to the 'transparent' box, and delete the transparent frame.

I assume some eps buyer will just open the file like in photoshop, but it is always clipped to the edge of the vector instead of the edge of artboard.

Can't really figure out what is the solution..

When exporting to a JPEG, make sure to tick the option "Use artboards" in the lower left corner of the Export dialog. That way, it won't crop your image to the contents, but use the artboard as its borders, leaving the empty space intact.
If you have one artboard , your JPEG will get the suffix "01" added to the filename, i.e. yourimagetitle-01.jpg.

So, I bought CMSAccount's photostock script the other day, and I'm running into a little problem.

In the admin panel (Settings > Taxes) I can specify when to apply VAT on my automated invoices. It says:

- All countries
- USA
- Canada

But for tax purposes I need to be able to specify whether the customer is a business or an individual and if it's located within the European Union or outside of the European Union. The option 'Reversed charge' would be useful as well.

Is there anyone from Europe who uses this script, let me know how you handle this.

I think to make things less complicated you can turn taxes "off"

- you don't have to advertise that you are charging customers taxes..
- but set your prices high enough to compensate the tax % you are going to pay..

if you are paying %30 tax, then set your prices %30 higher..

I didn't notice any stock agencies mentioning taxes to buyers, why would you?

I think that feature exists more for "physical products"..

I'm afraid it's not that simple in my situation. Dutch tax laws require me to list VAT (if applicable) on a invoice, if it's an individual or a non-VAT-registered entity inside the EU. Or else I could get fined for sending out faulty invoices.

Stock agencies don't mention the VAT, but I think it's applied during checkout, for UK/EU customers.
It also applies to electronic products.

I'm going to check on the CMSAccount forums to see if they can help me. Thanks anyway!

this is what I found.. admin says "it will be implemented in a future version.."
http://www.cmsaccount.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1036&p=3559&hilit=tax#p3559

also, there is a good point made in that thread.. you probably can turn taxes "off" in the script and get "paypal" do what you want to do..

I think paypal provides the kind of service you are looking for.. in your paypal profile, check selling tools..

Oh great, thanks!

I registered on the forums, so once my account is activated, I'll join in. Well, I'll just have to wait then for the new version.

New Sites - General / Re: Toon Vectors
« on: March 29, 2013, 18:47 »
Great, looking forward to it.

Some of the planned search updates are live now.  The maximum search results have been bumped up to 960 with a small plus indicator when there are more results available - ex. "Showing 1 - 48 of 960+".  I'm keeping an eye on the resource usage of this, but hopefully I can increase it again.

Different sorting options beyond the default relevance for search results have been added: Newest, Most Popular and Random Selection.  These can work a little oddly with a multi-term search, since the terms are OR-ed together by default so the search relevance is essentially discarded - probably why I left the sorting out in the first place.  Still, the new sort options can be useful for single-term searches and with search modifiers such as pluses and quotes - ex.  "Santa hat" or +Christmas +hat.

Image "popularity" is still used for search relevance tie-breakers, but the popularity algorithm has been tweaked a bit to help stop new images from being buried so much.  I have some ideas for further improving this which I've begun to experiment with.  There is also a deep hierarchical CV/category system under-construction that should help people get finer-grained results once that is integrated into the image similarity, browsing and searching results.

Great, thanks!

Okay, thanks.

Which one is easier/more customizable? Ktools or CMSaccount?

1982
I don't think there is a set amount. Obviously, more is better because each image or keyword rich title is another chance to be found in a search, but there is no written rule that you can't make money with just a handful of files. Plus, the costs of running a site aren't that great. Like stock art, your time may be the biggest expense.

Okay. I'm thinking of using either Ktools or CMSaccount's Photo Video Store Script.

1983
What would you say is the minimum amount of images one should have to make the investment (of your own stocksite) worth it?

500? 1000? Even more?

I think on one hand, you'll want to give your customers some choice, but on the other hand, who cares, as long as they find your image on Google and want to buy it. What's your opinion?

Now on to the next one... A food truck in Memphis is using my work as their logo, but even more irritating is the graphic designer that features that work on their portfolio.  :o

That's just sick.

New Sites - General / Re: Anyone selling in iclipart.com?
« on: March 28, 2013, 11:48 »
-Up-

So, iClipart, does it have good sales or not, despite the 20% commission?

I'm aware of them not giving credit to the artist, which is questionable to say the least, but not necessarily a dealbreaker.

Reviews are indeed ridiculously slow lately, on vectors.

New Sites - General / Re: Toon Vectors
« on: March 26, 2013, 17:34 »
Quick question: I noticed that the search returns only 500 hits. Since there are many similar looking files (black and white versions and color variations for instance), most files hardly get seen. Isn't there a way to show more results, or to sort the search on File Age, Number of Downloads, etc?

The current overly simplistic search interface is definitely starting to show strain with the growth of the catalog over the last year.  There are quite a few changes in progress for search that I hope to finish soon.  This includes more total results, additional sorting/filtering options and changes to the way relevance tie-breakers are calculated to provide a better balance between newer and older images.

Great, looking forward to it.

« on: March 26, 2013, 17:27 »
And they answered my query with:
''Many thanks for your email.
We do not deduct anything from your payment. It costs us money to send you the payment and it costs you money to receive it - that is the way Paypal works unfortunately; they charge a percentage of the money involved in the transaction. It's the same with bank transfers. Moneybookers/Skrill may offer a slightly better deal and you are welcome to change your preferred payment method to Moneybookers.''

Bunch of lies, all agencies cover the Paypal fees for us. I listed them all agencies (From Shutterstock to Deposit, Canstock, Istock, Alamy etc.) stating that no one steals 30 downloads from us to make us cover the fees. Surprising what they want to make us believe!

What a big lies indeed.

MicrostockSubmitter / Re: Error Uploading to Deposit Photos
« on: March 25, 2013, 11:36 »
I'm uploading to DepositPhotos, but the files don't appear in the Unfinished section. Therefore I'm unable to submit them. Even after 9+ hours there's no trace of the uploaded files. Not sure if it's a site problem.

MicrostockSubmitter / Re: Weird filenames
« on: March 25, 2013, 09:33 »
Some filenames are not being accepted by stock FTPs (for example, cyrillic ones or containing special symbols). Exact list of the characters not accepted by each stock's FTP is not that quick and easy to determine so the program just renames all the files to the safe filenames.

Okay, I understand, but I assume lowercase letters and numbers are widely accepted for filenames, so why not check for 'bad' filenames prior to uploading without destroying the original filename? For instance, the program could give an error message if the file contains anything other than letters, numbers and underscores.

MicrostockSubmitter / Weird filenames
« on: March 24, 2013, 23:24 »
Not sure if I ever asked this question, but whenever I upload a file, say "vector.eps", it changes the filename into something like: "429_cGVhcl9hbmdyeS5qcGc.eps"

Is it possible to keep the actual filename intact?

Each file bought from, or uploaded to, IS is a vote that their prices, commissions, terms... are acceptable. Period.

Yes, I wish I could afford to ditch them, but the income is still decent compared to most other stock sites. Shutterstock, however strong, won't make up for the loss of income.

1993
Yeah, the image previews are ridiculously big.

One of our highest priorities for 2013 is making improvements for iStock Exclusives.

Funny how they openly admit to focus on Exclusives only, and then screw non-exclusives even more. They really want to get rid of us.

That sucks, having to give away 30% of your income to the US. I have the luck that I live in a country that has a 0% tax treaty with the US, but it's ridiculous either way.

GLStock / Re: Sales anyone?
« on: March 19, 2013, 19:59 »
I had a great December (well, $11, so it's all relative), but Jan-Feb-Mar together was less than $3.

I wonder why these decent-paying sites can't gain some market share. Do they never advertise? Are they all asleep?

1999
I loathe Istock for what they did with the site (bugs) and the Google Deal (even if I wasn't affected...yet), but I must admit that Istock still brings in a "decent" sum every few weeks. It's a tie with SS at the moment, they're fighting for the #1 spot. It's still heck of a lot better than DT, 123RF and Fotolia, to name but a few.

But if you're a newcomer, you'll experience less regular sales. Still, it's worth it, providing you use DeepMeta or StockSubmitter to upload. And if you're willing to run the risk of them giving your images away with lousy deals.

Hello, My stocksubmitter is still not working with I stock and Graphicriver.

It's just me?

Istock is working for me. I don't upload to GraphicRiver so I wouldn't know about that.

I have my Istock nickname as login, with the password I use for the browser login as well.
