Symbiostock is a network of individual photographers sites. You link to others in the network to improve your seo. Others will also link to you.
Come and join the fun

Thats cool Cascoly. I need to correct a couple of mine.

This is one of my problems, the way round it is to get out a thesauraus and be creative.
I don't think you need to use yoasts list of focus key words you can use your own keyword or phrase just click update once you have entered it.

I'm making all my images/pages green done about 30 pages so far out of 1200

iStockPhoto.com / Re: I am impressed with TS
« on: July 22, 2013, 11:15 »
I am impressed with TS.

TS with 33 images gives me the same number of downloads per month as CanStockPhoto with 30 times more images.

Can you imagine if I uploaded my complete portfolio to IS, just to get them on TS.

Its so tempting.
By feeding the subs site you are making your images more available and thus decreasing the chance of selling on symbiostock.

They probly think this is cute.
agree Leo, your work on this project is amazingly generous and progressive, but yeah, I think I agree. They aren't worried.
These little cute mogwai could turn into gremlins

If everyone stopped uploading to the the low earners and put new files only on the big 3 and Sym, it would start to make a difference.

that's basically my philosophy, but since they ARE low earners it probably doesn't matter much - they don't have any presence in google search
123rf has a large presence in google search. I think I've finally worked out how they do this. It seems they tag different titles to the same images.

The 2nd paragraph on my home page explains that "royalty free" does not mean "free for the taking" and that it's not okay to steal or "borrow" images. But many viewers will go directly to the photo pages and never see that paragraph or never click to the EULA page.( I also believe some people assume "royalty free" means "FREE!!", which of course it doesn't.)

I would drop the statement off your home page as well. I'm sure it would annoy me if I was a real buyer (I don't think you see it on Shutterstock plastered all over the page) and I don't think it makes any difference to the non-buyer.

I agree with Steve, that it is best to drop the Royalty Free term. A compromise solution might be to mention RF rather than full wording.
I am getting web traffic when people are searching "Free Vatican photo" , Free Venice photo etc.
I think Getting traffic and clicks is good for SEO and placement. But for sure these clicks and traffic will not turn into $.  Hasn't happened so far.
Be patient, remember its the summer which is when most of us have the fewest sales. Sales will come as the network gets bigger. Also take time and work on your SEO. Those so far that have reported sales have all done work on their SEO as I understand.
SEO is a slow but worthwhile process.

Has this plugin now solved the compound word search problem?

Hi Leo

Do u think that the big guns eg SS, DT, FT or IS are watching and monitoring the development and growth of symbiostock?

Do you think they are concerned that if it gains momentum it could be a serious threat to them?

Well done!

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Indexed images and questions
« on: July 19, 2013, 07:03 »
I have about 1100 images with agencies that are already indexed. I dont want to send them any more. However if i follow the yoast SEO to get greens on all the images will it be worth it if the images are already indexed with multiple agencies?

Also a couple of other questions
Should we be renaming the files from like img9987.jpg to businessman in suit.jpg?

Also does symbiostock add "alt text" to the images?

Im trying to learn seo. Don't know if anyone knows the answers to these questions.

« on: July 19, 2013, 06:36 »
i'm watching with interest, and also would be good to know how many files you had (though of course this is less relevant as you could have 1000 files but only 5 different subjects).

I spent first time uploading 1200 images. Now im going through them one by o e working on seo. This will take a while. I think though my biggest nail is that my images are indexed by the agencies and so I'm competing with myself. The only way to solve the problem is to just do exclusive content for sys

Symbiostock - Suggestions / Re: Feature Request List
« on: July 18, 2013, 17:06 »
Definitely noted on these things. Shortly before release I'll have to hit up up for a list of popular requests! Microstockman is to be credited for many of the behind-the-scenes optimization the early releases of the theme had :D

Aww thanks Leo. It's a very nice way of saying "microstock man keeps bugging me with things to add!"  ;D

BTW - Your Image Sitemap is working brilliantly. This is a plugin everyone should buy. without it my Yoast sitemaps have indexed a total of FOUR images. Your site map has helped Google index 1800+ images! (IMAGES people, not pages)
How long did it take?

After two weeks I am still only at 274

274 of how many?  and, most importantly, how many of these images were at other agencies before you put them on sym?

I used to gwt about 10% images indexed.  yoast & leo's sitemaps raised that to about 20%.  but for the images (most new to tagencies too) I've uploaded in the last several weeks, i'm getting 80-90% indexed.  most likely we're in competition with out own images that are indexed thru the agencies.

Thats why i dont supply the agencies anymore

dudamobile is good, at the moment I'm not paying the monthly subscription, just tolerating there adverts. If my symbiostock site takes off I think I will get someone in to design the mobile side for me as It will save on the monthly subscription cost

I did what I did because I had high hopes for symbiostock. I was serious with every word. And I was not there to stirr up or destroy things.
I saw you were moving in a counterproductive direction and wanted to kick ass to make it stop.

I have now, since yesterday. Come to a depressing conclusion:

symbiostock is not viable as a serious business attempt.
the construction is too risky and the code is out of control.
the arrangement cannot be geared up to a professional amount of traffic.
the construction is open to all sorts of piracy, scams, parasitism and theft.
many of the users are not interested in cooperation

it can, however, be used as a case study

And it might be worht while to start all over again, with secure code.
With that i mean, that if serious business is going to take place, you must have the code secured in a bunker in Fort Knox, so that it cannot be interrupted.

hmm............ I personally think that Leo has done an amazing job he is both an excellent code writer and a great inspiration. If the project wasn't successful then why are there now 67 sites   67319 images?

Took three weeks. Not much happened in week one, but week three has seen steady growth.

My url indexed fast with Leo's tool. Howver my images are only indexing slowly 58/1213. Is this normal? They are going up slowly

for the global search engines to attract customers, sym site members need to link to and promote  those engines

how many pages & iMages from your site has google iNdexed?  without doing some seo work, your site isn't going to get noticed.  and if you're not being noticed, other members are less likely to include you in their network list.  symbiosis means it works both ways

Hey, if it comes to it, I will do my part to get traffic into the network, don't misunderstand me, but what I fail to understand is how linking to fifteen other sites will boost my sales?? Isn't the potential 1000 times bigger with a global search where potential customers can choose between (hopefully) millions of photos based on keywords rather than klicking away in an endless network where you find 10-15 sites at the time? Isn't the vision to compete with the big agencies like that?

This is why centralisation would benefit all of us

224
I have a couple of questions:

Is the code secure, or can the carpet be pulled away in one second?
Is the system is vulnerable to abuse and parasitism?
Who controls the search machine?

I think the whole system relies on trust

225
Here's the thing.  If people want to do this, they can get together and do it in a closed network.  You could cover things like centralized logins/terms and cart not to mention quality control etc.  You could even have your own branding of the group.  The smaller the group at the beginning, the easier it would be to agree on things and then add people as the details are ironed out.  It's a good idea I'm interested to see who moves forward with it.

The fact is that not everyone who uses the Symbiostock theme is going to want to be a part of that, some people really do prefer autonomy and control of their own sites and don't mind the extra responsibility and marketing.

Personally I think there is room for both models using the base Leo and others have built.  Whoever is serious about this idea of centralizing should get together and discuss making it happen.

I'd just caution you to remember that with an open source solution that is already "out there" there is really no way (or reason to) force every single person who uses the theme into the same terms.  There is a post about hub sites Leo made earlier with additional ideas.

I think you have raised some excellent points here. This is a base that we can choose to build on. I would be in favour of centralisation as it makes things easier for customers. The easier it is for customers, the more sales we have and we all want those.
The problem is I don't have the technical skills to build a hub for centralisation. I struggled with the site. However, I can help by writing stuff.

Kind regards
Mark
