123RF / Re: Uploading not working???
« on: June 19, 2013, 11:48 »
My 3 images lying in Processing and just at 20% after couple days  ???  Really unusual for 123rf as have gotten used to relatively easy uploads and fast reviews there... hope they'll fix whatever it is soon

Delete would be my choice too!  With rates around microstock sites plummeting to an insultingly low level already, freebies on one pretext or another is about the last thing I want to support.

General Stock Discussion / Re: May Sales
« on: June 04, 2013, 11:12 »
Not bad and not great!  SS barely just topped May last year, IS fell (I've pulled good part of my port there), Alamy made couple of mid rated sales only, 123rf, Fotolia, Canstock, Bigstock small increases if any, and it was DT with a BME which sort of salvaged the month.  Feels like I'm uploading away without any appreciable climb in sales.. sort of like running hard at the same spot!  ::)

123RF / Re: 123RF on rise in earnings
« on: May 30, 2013, 21:02 »
I like their very fast review time of my images (usually).  Sales for me have tended to trickle up this year.. although they only make a quarter or so of my SS earnings.   :)

I got invited too and thanked them politely but no thanks. I dont have time to waste on another none seller. I am sticking with GL because it seems they are a fair agency, but I only had 1 sale in 4 months. I do not wish to add any more of those agencies.

To each one of us our own I guess :) As for me I had bad experience on GL because they rejected an extraordinary number of my files for reasons not clear - since those images were accepted at various other agencies (I'm on 10 stock sites) - so I stopped uploading to GL.

With Mostphotos my initial contact has been a positive one and the new site looks Great so i plan to give it a shot there :)

General Stock Discussion / Mostphotos looking up
« on: May 30, 2013, 02:41 »
Saw the impressive new website at Mostphotos, looks very professional.   :) Also got an email from the CEO with an invitation to join.  Good stuff I think.  Had a couple of concerns with the licensing/ related info and terms of use as presented on the site and was promptly thanked by Lina from their office, for bringing to attention and assuring the matter was being addressed immediately.  If they do that I think I'm all set for joining the Contributor rank on this site esp. since they also act as storehouse letting you download your content free in case you lose it somehow.  Next comes the sales part.. maybe its a trickier one but one will have to wait and see.

123RF / Re: Not understandable, refund on 123RF
« on: May 26, 2013, 14:27 »
I think when they say refund for another download, the buyer changed his mind and decided on another image, whether from your port or someone else's. I've had a few of those in the past. It sucks. Too many anomalies on 123rf.

Thanks for shedding some light! Meanwhile am still waiting for a reply from 123RF, to understand how that particular refund got handled.. one day, perhaps, someone there will bother to send a response to my message...

123RF / Not understandable, refund on 123RF
« on: May 25, 2013, 11:30 »
On 21st Mat I got a EEL sale for 21.60 on 123RF.  Two days later it was reversed with explanation in small red letters (Refund for another download).  No further explanation.  I had not had another sale for similar amount so dont understand how it could be refund for another download!!

Sent them a request for clarification couple days back - still no response  ???

Anyone know how it works or had similar experience at 123RF?

Hi, no, not yet. I'm just looking for information because had not heard of this agency before.  The website is in Italian so couldn't figure out too much - but have sent them some queries as well ...

General Stock Discussion / Any Ivantaggi contributors here?
« on: February 11, 2013, 06:13 »
Is there anyone here who contributes to the microstock agency Ivantaggi in Italy?  I was approached to be a contributor and am looking for whatever info I can find as don't them at all.

Any feedback appreciated, thanks in advance  :)

Taking a break from my deactivations, doing it file by file!  Noticing that many of my good sellers are going ... just didn't make sense to leave those at risk and take away the ones that dont sell much!

There also were public hearings in November, though they have not yet published the transcript.

Ok thanks very much for that post!  Really interesting to see the number of photography related participants in small claims category ...

Getty tweeted today, under WANTED that they want images of people enjoying walk on a beach. All ages and all locations.

Wonder where these images would go?  And for what price? ;D

224
That's interesting to know...

Here's one section from the text:

QUOTE
Small Copyright Claims:
One of the purposes of US copyright law is to provide copyright owners with a remedy for unauthorized uses of their creations, including by filing lawsuits in federal district courts. Not all copyright owners, however, have the economic resources or incentives to bring a federal lawsuit, which can require a great deal of time and money. While the Copyright Act offers the possibility of statutory damages and attorneys fees, these benefits are not available in all cases, and even when they are, they may not be recovered until after a lengthy litigation that requires huge up-front costs.  Congress has asked the Copyright Office to study the benefits and drawbacks of how current system resolves small copyright claim disputes, as well as possibility of future alternative systems. The Copyright Office has been engaging stakeholders on this issue and is scheduled to issue a report on this issue in the fall of 2013.
UNQUOTE

If an implementation could happen that makes it easy and cheap to pursue copyright violations (the small copyright claims), that would be great for the microstock world!!  8)

Wondering - cant one of us who is in the States drop the copyright office a line and bring on note the frequent violations we experience in the microstock world?  Its a real and ongoing issue and perhaps they may be interested to table it in their report?  If that gets done it may have a far reaching impact in our industry...

Government Theory

The tribal wisdom of the Dakota Indians, passed on from generation to generation, says that: When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, best strategy is to dismount.

However, in government, more advanced strategies are often employed, such as:

1. Buying a stronger whip.

2. Changing riders.

3. Appointing a committee to study the horse.

4.  Arranging to visit other countries to see how other cultures ride dead horses.

5. Lowering the standards so that dead horses can be included.

6. Reclassifying the dead horse as living-impaired.

7. Hiring outside contractors to ride the dead horse.

8. Harnessing several dead horses together to increase speed.

9. Providing additional funding and/or training to increase the dead horse's performance.

10. Doing a productivity study to see if lighter riders would improve the dead horse's performance.

11. Declaring that as the dead horse does not have to  be fed, it is less  costly, carries lower overhead and therefore contributes substantially  more to the bottom line of the economy than do some other  horses.

12. Rewriting the expected performance requirements for all horses.

And of course....

13 Promoting the dead horse to a supervisory position.
