I recently had a request with an e-mail from FT for buying the rights to one of my images it hadn't been downloaded anywhere despite being online for a whole year so it seemed like a good idea.
I set about deleting it from the other sites and making it exclusive and set the buy out option and price but so far the client hasn't bought it despite asking for a reduction in the price.

Some lucky contributor should win a new iPOd at DT by the end of the week. SS should break the 2 million mark in two months any news of a prize there?

Just to let you all know i have added two spreadsheets to my website one to calculate those percentages we are discussing on this thread microstock earning percentages and totals microstock earnings breakdownthe other a shutterstock statistics spreadsheet shutterstock stats spreadsheet
to calculate $/month and DLs/month from your SS stats both are blank with all the relevant formulas and ready to use with simple instructions. The links are also in my signature. Hope they are useful

I would say small regular (daily) uploads are a better bet at SS than once a week or once a month giving them 50 or more. As they want NEW images if you submit large batches with similar shots you are competing with yourself, they will reject some of them.
Search options like newest and most popular at SS will favour your new uploads.
At SS a good photo can be uploaded on its first day at the others sites it could be days, weeks or months before you see any sales.

Ok technically there are still 7 hours left of April left on the West coast where some agencies are based so I will tweak my figures according tomorrow Here are the percentages now which unless I get some 11th hour EL sales aren't going to change much SS 45.3% + DT 17.8% - FT 9.4% - iS 8.3% - StockXpert 6.7% - BS 5.4% + 123 4.7% + FP 1% + CanStockPhoto 0.8% - PSM 0.6% - overall less than month + or - more or less than last month

I must admit I used to post every week at StockXpert with no success months ago but i will try again now that my portfolio has become more worthy of attention and hopefully there are more buyers about.
I know at CanStockPhoto sometime I will have the same photo DLed twice on the same day probably as someone sees it in the recent DLs section.

The only site I know that doesn't cover that cost.

I was informed by one of the reviweres that keywords (but not categories) are in fact required before reviewing. The same as everywhere else.

Better this month the server upgrade last month really screwed things up. A steady but slow earner though I think i got in a the right time filling holes in their portfolio.
FTP, No categories, high acceptance rate, $50 payout
If you have your images keyworded and can spare the bandwidth uploading why not

I checked my affilates at FT and of the 15 happy snappers 9 probably aren't very happy as they have 0 or maybe one sale. I think some newbies upload only a few photos and give up or maybe don't keyword their images well enough so they are lost. currently 1217 sales ranked 321 based in the UK I actually had an e-mail from the FT marketing person asking me if wanted to be interviewed by Readers Digest UK regarding making money online. Unfortunately I was out so I didn't see the e-mail until hours later. I replied but obviously so did many others eager for the publicity probably hours earlier

It has been mentioned before and I will mention it FT state the number of "online images". They don't claim to have 3 million images for sale
If a submitted image is accepted, rejected, made a free image or deleted by user a thumbnail is kept so is "online"

Thanks Sharply_done for the insight
I didn't manage anything too fancy on excel (no thumbnails YET) but I managed a little spreadsheet for the top 600 earners which shows $/Month and DLs/Month so i can spot the themes are should be pursuing.
If anyone wants to make sense of their SS sales send me a site mail and I can e-mail the spreadsheet. You will need to do a bit of copy and pasting to insert your figures and replace $x with x but the formula are all there.

rejoice and be glad some of photos have arrived in the promised land and now can be keyworded/categorized etc at DT

One thing I would like to see at DT and any other site which has FTP is to receive an e-mail when the FTP has gone pear shaped (not working) and another e-mail when the problem is fixed.
Certainly would be a feature to opt in or out of
Rejection rates and waiting times don't bother me as much as trying and failing to upload images AGAIN and AGAIN.

after browsing through some of the more recent threads I thought it was time for something a bit more constructive so I thought i would start making suggestions for things I would like to see at various sites.
I have about 2,700 files at SS and am having a fair amount of success but I am finding it slightly difficult to track what images are moderately sucessful, the best sellers are obvious they appear on the first page of 20 images but I checked I have 100 pages of downloaded images so about 2,000 downloaded images.
I would like to see would be a search option for just the photographer to arrange my portfolio in order of number of DLs (as "most popular" takes into account time on the site) preferably with the number of DLs under it. so at 60 photos per page it would a slightly more managable 33 pages.
If I could search just my own portfolio for a keyword to compare sales that would be great
so has anyone else got a sensible suggestions for other sites I suppose we should post them on the sites own forum as well

join the club we have jackets, I wondered why they were stuck in limbo, glad to hear I am not alone. I sent a site mail to BS no reply yet. last ten photos uploaded did make it to the uploaded photo section but no sign on the other side of the other 37 reFTPing the lost files seems to push them over the brink to allowing categorization

(probably not sales would help) finally got a payout there only took a year

I have over 2,000 images there and was rather miffed to only have one sale in fact I was so miffed i was actually thinking of taking a few images off and resubmitting to micro stock groups. My first sale was on Wednesday the 13th of September and now Friday the 13th of April I have another one for considerably more money so anyone know what the minimum payout is and how long is the wait at the end of the month?? or when the payment clears? $250 is the answer

I had a request for a simplified version of one of my illustrations at featurepics I made a 12mp version set it $5 (no resizing) uploaded within an hour as they said they wanted it quickly and waited and waited. Finally after a week I had the sale and earned me $3.50

similar upload procedure to StockXpert
FTP file.eps + file.jpg (not zipped) at same time
Unfortunately they are NOT selling them YET just accepting uploads they are waiting until they have a few. I am hoping they think up a way up of uploading eps files for existing jpegs.
one very cool point you set the price and the eps file is only available at the top price so you won't be giving them away as I fear will be the case at BigStock.
as an example a 9 mp rasterized eps file selling for $5
So you can either sell the eps or full size version for $5 (your cut 70% $3.50)
or allow resizing so full size 9mp or eps for $5 5 mp for $3 3 mp for $2.30 600 x 800 93c
Read all about them in my guide

Most excellent news I will start submitting regularly again if only they would start to sell a few more images.
I wish Is would do the same I recently doubled my RAM to 1 GB and imagemanager slows everything right down and takes ages to load up.
Has anyone tried deleting their rejected images from imagemanger does it speed things up?
