FWIW: It seems that you can find the DP images ONLY via the image number - NOT via keywords.

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe changes at Fotolia
« on: March 30, 2015, 05:03 »
Will those who believe that the acquisition of any company by a bigger company is good news for anyone apart from those at the very top of the acquiring company, please form an orderly queue to have their blinkers and rose tinted spectacles removed.
Thankyou. :)

Will those who believe in doom and gloom and cant stop whining about it just leave (micro)stock and let others get on with business?
Thank you  ;)

I see indivstock starts royalty at 38%

What kind of business cannot make a go of it at 50% when you are getting supplied the goods your selling?

Anyway 38% of no sales is still nothing

These bottom feeder agencies are no starters  not worth the effort to upload

The TO was asking for EXPERIENCES! You obviously dont have any...  ::)

I have less than 1000 images there (but the whole agency has only 37000 so far...)
When I signed up about 6 months ago, I was "awarded" Level 3 (= 56%) right away.
I have sales every month, right from the beginning!
BUT so far I had only 21 sub sales, no credit sales...

Noodle IS telling you his/her experiences & opinions, and it's valuable experience especially for new contributors who don't know better regarding who they upload to and how much work-to-commission ratio might be involved.  Clearly, NOODLE is talking about percentage of commissions relative to his/her overall microstock experience versus what these newer bottom feeding agencies pay.  That is invaluable experience for people who don't know better or do not have the valuable framework of the commission erosion that has been happening over the last several years in general micro stock. Moreover, why on earth would you waste your time with an agency who only has 37,000 images? That is not a sales hook in any way shape or form for buyers, it's definitely not a carefully curated collection and they have been up for about a year and have only been able to garner 37k images? How many of those images are from production mills, too? What I am stating is VALUABLE experience others may want to use to help make decisions regarding uploading to these sites.

I disagree. Noodle has NO experience with Indivstock. And neither have you. Both your "contributions" dont answer the opening question.

I have experience with Indivstock. I answered the question. Thats all.

I earned 113 Euro there last year, better than nothing. But there is still hope!  8)

Are you opted out?

From my experience: When I opted out of subs, all credit sales stopped as well...

Its NOT an error! The email is about CTR/zooms - not sales.

My current CTR is 1.23 vs the Alamy average of 0.53. I did notice a rise in zooms for the last 2 months - they have just not translated in sales yet... hopefully  ;)

Paid $60, made $3300: money well spent

What type of images did you sell? Landscapes?
And did you sell licenses or prints?

« on: March 04, 2015, 05:38 »
I have 7.5K images on sale there and I have regular sales. Yes, it's complicated process to upload in 500px, but it worth. Just make all low resolution images watermarked thru photoshop, than upload watermarked in 500px and high resolution in prime.500px.com

Are you actually selling "normal" stock images there? Or do you have such a large "fine art" portfolio?

214
no, the files that are on getty will also be available on eyeem. the files are exclusive to eyeem who then sends some of them to getty.

the only real difference is that the files that move to getty can only be removed after 6 months, while the files that are only on eyeem can be removed anytime. I have done that a few times, because I changed my mind a few times and decided the file was "too normal" and I sent it elsewhere.

I dont know the percentage that I am getting on getty, but the lowest I have had is 5 dollars, which is unusual. From my time on getty I remember there were lots of much smaller returns. So maybe they have a deal where you get more when it is a low value sale, or there is some kind of lower limit and less if it is higher? again, I have no idea, in total I have had 6 sales, you really cant make any assumptions from that. The highest was 42 dollars, which isnt bad. The average now is around 11 dollars. That is more than my average as an istock exclusive for normal main collection content. And again...only 6 sales...really not enough data for any kind of projection...

But for me whatever comes from getty should just be the add on, not the main income. I sincerly hope that their own marketplace will be the main focus and the majority of their money.

However, since the images I am sending now couldnt be sold elswehere, even if I only got 10% from getty it would still be more than not selling them at all. And if the lowest return is really 5 dollars, that is much better than a sub sale. Again, maybe there are lower sales for some people and I simply havent had them yet.

So it is all total speculation. Until their own marketplace gets going, we are working in a cloud of mystery.

Ill stick to the "fun images that cant go elsewhere" and enjoy the journey. But I am not planning my financial stock life on them.

It is fun, it adds some money. no stress.

eta: this is the image I got 42 dollars for. I doubt it would have been accepted anywhere else and I dont believe it is killer bestseller. I got lucky once and maybe this is the only sale this image will ever see.

https://www.eyeem.com/p/43060982

eta2: most of the images I have on eyeem are not in their marketplace. I am enjoying the app and just send whatever I like for fun and the community. Some of these images are available elsewhere as stock. So I am using eyeem as a mix of fun, showcase and to test the reactions to different smartphone filters on a series.  For me that has been the most valuable info, because I can use that for my regular stock work.

Oh, I think youre returns are great! I was just trying to get some information, so thanks for that.

Maybe Im a bit dim, but how do you tag your images? You can type some text but thats not searchable, is it? So only those "groups" are searchable keywords?

215
All are filternd with strong Smartphone filters and would have been rejected on istock under istocks old standards.

but this doesn't mean that normal photos don't sell, I simply don't have many normal images in what I send there.

So perhaps normal images would sell better on Getty, who knows?

It is much too early to draw any conclusions IMO. And Getty is not the interesting place for me, it is their own marketplace, which hasn't opened yet, that interests me.

If you are looking for good sales from Getty, then I would of course shoot more images with Models in a modern environemnt, maybe with the common outdoor against the sun, or faded 70's look...

You can try to just upload normal stock and see if they take it and if it sells. i am stickig to "Stuff I can't sell elsewhere" until the eyeem marketplace opens.

Perhaps try to follow their "Missions" that might be specific content Getty is looking for.

But the files that went to Getty are exclusive to Getty, arent they? So they wont even be availabe on the marketplace...?

And can you tell if you got 10% for those Getty sales - or what percentage is it?

People who are involved: any sales?

Nobody?  ???

The way I understand it is: Because there is "no middleman/agency" there will also be no advertising. You will have to attract the buyers yourself...

Hi Lee,

some of my pictures have "Rejected (S)" as a status. I assume that means a "soft" rejection, right?
But where can I find the rejection reason?
Soft rejections make no sense if I dont know what needs to be improved.

General - Top Sites / Re: Fotolia beats Shutterstock
« on: February 02, 2015, 04:05 »
fotolia must be giving some contributors better search placement or some other kind of special treatment..

What makes you think other agencies don't do that? It's all about special treatments in stock.
Always amazes me that contributors that have been at this for many years still have no clue how this business works.

When fotolia, - a supposedly big 4 site -,  makes half the amount of bigstock, canstock and envato; and is on par with the likes of yay, gl, veer etc. you know something is not right.. I make regular monthly payouts even on low earners and bottom feeders.. when you have as much data as I do, it is pretty easy to spot that something is weird.. poll results are very accurate for me except fotolia..

So with all this "data" you have you werent able to find out that FT is big in EUROPE and not the US? Fotolia is the No.2 agency for most european contributers.

"Local" images get a better search placement. If a european buyers searches for "money" he wants to see and not $ images. Thats the same at pretty much every agency. There is no need for conspiracy theories about "special treatments".

However, If I search for "lazers" only 24 pics are tagged.  This is a niche you can dominate.

Is that the niche of spelling mistakes?  ;D

sure, why not?  http://www.dreamstime.com/photos-images/lazers.html

Because it is not a niche if you use the correct spelling: http://www.dreamstime.com/photos-images/laser.html

So?  The idea is to avoid tags with thousands of results.  If you can find meaningful tags which lead to only a handful of images then you're laughing

But "lazers" is not meaningful! If you just make up words there are plenty of "niches" with 0 results...

In sites where it's possible, it's smart to include common spelling mistakes, especially if the site doesn't offer any sensible alternatives to the typo/mistake. Also alternate US/English spellings.

I agree about alternate spellings. But arent you usually against keyword spamming?

With all of my income from stock I almost succeed in pay my car rate (I bought a second hand skoda octavia made in 2004).
But I do this kind of work from passion, and, I also believe that when you do just for the money, you are wrong!

Well, I believe that who ever is doing microstock not just for the money is out of their minds...  ;D

I would never ever do microstock as hobby. There are much more rewarding types of photography if you are just following your passion.

... how about this (in my case) : House mortgage + all utilities/month 350  euros ( around $420)  ;) only SS in as disastrous month produce more than that, and I'm talking about an European Union Country that i believe is not a 3rd world country  ;) ...

And what country/city would that be?
