You can't use any other distributor (including Flickr, Zazzle, Alamy etc), but you can give them away from your own web page.

Strange that the sign-ip page was in English as well as Norwegian, then. Sorry for misleading you guys, but hope that those of us who have pics there will get some sales from the campain.

How about now? It claims my login information is wrong. I tried to reset my password, and now:

Errors were encountered:
There has been a security error
Please fix all errors to continue.

I think they ask a bit too much from one little person... Do you think they would be willing to narrow it down? Maybe just all errors committed in London? Or Europe? And where should I start? Spelling errors? Math?

There are no errors on my machine. I can log in on all the other sites with no problems.

@Komar: It took less than one month for me to quit the exclusivity status, not 6.

Why I was exclusive? I didn't know the back from the front of the camera when I started, and the staff of DT were very helpful during my learning process. Also, they "felt" safe and reliable. I was happy as an exclusive then, I'm happy as an independent now. But I'll never be more than a hobbyist.

I asked, and got this answer:
Fotografene fr selvsagt betalt som om kundene har kjpt bildepakkene.
God sommer!
Med vennlig hilsen,
Linda L. Johannesen

Translation:
The photographers will of course be paid the same as if the customers had paid for the pictures.
Have a good summer, Best regards, Linda L. Johannessen

Yay has a campain now, where you can download 10 pics for free if you register in July via this link: http://yaymicro.com/register.action?extraMiniPack=true&la=en

If you are already registered at YAY, and want the same offer, send an email to [email protected]

My username there is kavring, if you want to give me referrals.

I guess you are a member of Frskringskassan (national insurance)? That is usually good enough for all such purposes.

i got the cutest reject from Bigstock the other day:
Quote
Reason: Potential copyright / trademark / privacy issue with photo (could be: copyrighted art, visible logo, license plate number, etc) sorry...
Please remove logo on hat... very adorable child!

That little bit of politeness really made my day.

The issue is the tiny teddy bear thingy on this cap (as you can see, DT didn't object):

Of the last 32 they took 7. I understood most of the rejects (old pics I have recently gotten around to keyword), but had expected to get maybe half of them approved.

Getty search for "child hearing aid": all relevant, but dated. http://www.gettyimages.com/Search/Search.aspx?contractUrl=2&language=en-US&family=creative&p=child%20hearing%20aid&assetType=image#

Istock search for the same phrase: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_search.php?action=file&oldtext=child hearing aid&abstractType=1023&filterContent=false&text=child "hearing aid" Mostly relevant, almost all modern.

Not something a lot of people will look for, but when they do, they need up do date pictures. Even the smallest hearing aids in getty's collection are twice the size of what kids use today.

What would you consider a succesfull picture? 10, 50, 100, 500 DLs a month?

I use Irfanview, and only have problems with IS. All fields are blanked out there now.

My first month as independent, and I understand why you all love SS. The number of downloads and revenue from DT has been cut in half, but the RPD is about the same as before.

DT: 26%
SS: 53%
IS: 16%
Other: 6%

The total sum is quite low, but the trend is clear. I'm about halfway through uploading the old pictures, so SS will probably be good for another month or two. There is of course a larger backlog on IS. That really is a tiresome upload process.

DepositPhotos / Copyright infringement
« on: May 24, 2010, 08:30 »
This file, a replica of a 1000 years old statuette, was declined by DP due to copyright infringement. I didn't know copyright extended that far back. But I'm probably a direct desendant of the artist, so maybe I should write them a PR? It was dug out of an Icelandic marsh, so I have no idea what the name of the artist was. Is that a problem?

I haven't been able to get the upload to work for the last week or two. It just crashes.

Great idea, and fantastic pictures!

You may not think so, but there would still be plenty of doctors, firefighters, clerks, and shelf-stockers to go around. Not *everyone* is trapped in a job they utterly dislike, you know.

Plenty of shelf-stockers would do their job for free?  Really?
The majority of us dislike our jobs, according to this study... http://www.conference-board.org/utilities/pressDetail.cfm?press_ID=3820
QUOTE:
"Americans of all ages and income brackets continue to grow increasingly unhappy at work-a long-term trend that should be a red flag to employers, according to a report released today by The Conference Board. The report, based on a survey of 5,000 U.S. households conducted for The Conference Board by TNS, finds only 45 percent of those surveyed say they are satisfied with their jobs, down from 61.1 percent in 1987, the first year in which the survey was conducted."
I suggest that if those 55% quit their jobs to fly-fish, fingerpaint or microstock, society would fall apart.

Well, the world is bigger than USA. In Norway 70% are happy with their current jobs. http://www.karrierelink.no/al.php?ar_id=977 I've tried being a WAHM, but prefer being amongst the 80 % who love teaching. At least part time. It is a bit to much hassle sometimes, having to work 6 hours every day. I think I would like to reduce it to 4. :P

the bigger the better? and use raw+jpg? i think there are some website that you can upload raw files as additional format (dreamstime), but i am not sure is it sold as higher price.

At dreamstime you get a good price for raw if they buy with credits, but almost nothing for a sub.

Rainy summer? What summer? We just got 15 cm snow. Ok, snow is not that unusual in April, but not this much this late. We are close enough to the ash clouds that I think they could have caused it. The last time we had "A year without summer" it was caused by volcanos in Indonesia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_Without_a_Summer

If you are having to drop DT exclusivity to upload RM shots, then I guess you will also be uploading your RF portfolio to the other major sites?

I am betting you will see a big jump in your income once your ports are on the 4 top micros :)

I will be uploading most of it, yes. It will be very interesting to see how it will effect my earnings. But I was really quite happy with exclusivity with DT. If not for this rule, I wouldn't have dropped it. Or if DT had a RM-scheme. But I do not want to sell more pictures of sensitive issues as RF. I have a few already in my port, and it doesn't feel right.

Artemis: thank you for your good wishes. :)
