Selling Stock Direct / Re: Do you recommend Symbiostock?

It's important to distinguish between legacy Symbiostock (which many people have had different experiences with) and the new one.

Thus far the new Symbiostock is having no issues and moving along speedily (over 100 happy contributors in a month).

100 never ever ;D

Adobe Stock / Re: Introducing Adobe Stock!
« on: June 18, 2015, 16:22 »
For me its quite clear that every agency who take more than 50% is a worse agency. Adobe is on the right way but there are a few % more that we have to catch from them and the other greedy companys. :-*

@Matt

Will Adobe undercut his prices by DPC?
When will Adobe close DPC?

231
The more I think about it, the more criminal this looks.

If any of our images on DPC have been sold without our consent, but we're opted out of DPC, they would not only need to remove our images, but also pay us an extra amount of royalties that was promised for those who remained opted in.

I'm willing to contribute financially to a class action lawsuit.

Yes a class action could be a good investment if fotolia has to pay a compensation. We need a fond for class actions.
Investment maybe 100$ per person.
Is the action successfully the compensation will be distributed to the investors.

232
what fotolia?
its unbelievable how untrustworthy are the agencies.

You might be able to send a message by starting a class action.

we should all do this togehther.
A crowd funded kickstarter Lawsuit!

I dont think that Pay Pal is a "great service" but there are no alternatives.

Does have anyone a solution for transfer to EUR in germany without Pay Pal?

Yes,me! Using Payoneer and their new euro payment service through Wirecard bank based in Germany works like a charm. This new service allows you to receive payments in EUR as if you have a European bank account!
Bank Name:
Wirecard
BIC:
WIREDEMM
Bank Country:
Germany

Payoneer has the same bad rates and fees like Paypal.

Let's examine an open source project without trademark protection:

1) Symbiostock 1.0 is released. As it is licensed under the GNU, anyone can use the code and even sell it.
2) A group of black-hatters take Symbiostock, add malicious code to it in order to collect passwords
3) They release Symbiostock 2.0, call it Symbiostock 2.0, and advertise on Google Adwords using the name Symbiostock 2.0.
4) Users, just like you, purchase Symbiostock 2.0, your passwords are extracted, your sites are hacked, and all your full resolution images show up on free sites.
5) The group of black-hatters stop advertising, close up shop, and disappear.
6) You come to the original developers and want to know why they let this happen.
7) They respond by saying that without trademark protection, they could not legally prevent the sale of Symbiostock 2.0.

And with a registred trademark in your protecting property the "black-hatters" will not do that?  ;D
Do "black hatters" respect the copyright of a trademark?
What a nonsense Robin.

This is just one of the reasons why Symbiostock, and other open source organizations such as:

WordPress: http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4801:4ow9iu.2.9
CentOS: http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4801:4ow9iu.3.2

All have registered trademarks. It has very little to do with end users.

Robin.

You try to register Symbiostock to make profit and the problem is that "Symbiostock"is in public use for years before you come.
You can protect Symzio or maby Robinstock but you try to use the free word "Symbiostock" and his good reputation for your own profit.
Many of us  promote and use Symbiostock  this we did  for our independence and the free Symbiostock not for the company Robin Murarka.
You want to protect anyone. In my view you are also not a benefactor or contributor. You try it with anonymity, blocking, ignoring and censoring.
Sorry Robin in my view you are not a contributor you are just a worse businessmen.

Maby you should try it with honesty and transparency.

What you sell on your own site, and with which plug in is your choice.

And there's the true gist of the current situation. I'm a photographer, but I'm probably going to migrate to grfx because I know Leo and trust him.

I can understood this but on the other hand Leo has sold Symbiostock to Mr. Murarka. Thats it. Than grfx and the blocking Robin blabla.

In german i would like to say "Kindergarten".

For me its quite clear that i dont work with one of this platforms.

that's where the confusion is -- robin has rights to moving on with symbiostock -- but he does not have exclusive rights to the name, or the original software or anything to do with existing sites.

and robin is further muddying waters by actively pushing his symbio-plus etc to illustrators, despite a supposed agreement to split

I think what will happen is the 'new' symbiostock will wither  away when people realize how much robin is planning to charge for 'plus' and global search, and older symbiostock sites will be able to migrate smoothly to grfx

Yes i think Robins main atention is monetization. But I will not use grfx the developer is too unreliable.

Symbistock is now owned by a single person. Goodbye independence!
Even if it should be successful it is now easy for the big Agencies to buy Symbiostock and close it.

I think Symbiostock now is death.

Full post: http://www.symbiostock.org/forums/topic/symbiostock-search-wordpress-search/

A big boost in search, especially for people with over 500 images. WordPress and WooCommerce, by default do not search tags - very strange, but it's true.

That means that if you keyword your image and bring it into WooCommerce using tags, your customers won't be able to search using those keywords.

You can buy or install third party plugins that do enable this, but in our testing we've found that once you go over about 500 images you see significant slow down, with some people with 1500 images or more experiencing wait times of over 1.8 seconds.

The next release of Symbiostock will use a new accelerator with the search, and include tag searching. Our tests have shown that where you might normally see a wait time of about 1.4 seconds, it now takes 0.2 seconds (85% speed increase!).

Over 500 images... Wow

He is dreaming and has dollars in his eyes already. ;D

243
nope, maybe for photos but for footages not working anymore... my queue it is full with old broken clips...and i can not delete the action :))
and i have the folowing message : "Your files have been placed in queue where they will be processed.
Please be patient."
Think they broke the system with the new updates...

same here with photos crap in the queue that i can not delete. But i can not upload anything in the moment to 123rf...

244
Too expensive ?!?!?! You think selling an image for 20-30 cent is too expensive??

No! do not get me wrong

Between buyer and seller is sitting the agency who gets the majority of the purchase price.
Is the agency away there is a win win situation.

ok, the biggest winner would be the contributor! ;D

Selling Stock Direct / Where can I get the license text?

I look for my self hosting setup on wordpress basis.
Where can I get the international license texts?
The problem must actually have many.

We just have to get rid of the greedy agencies...

You are very right..

We do whatever, agencies have highest priority for buyers and lowest priority for contributors.

If we get rid of them, agencies will not be affected.. Instead we will surely be..

I sometimes feel trapped..  :-\

I think in the future is some hope ...

Self hosting is always easier for example Wordpress+WooCommerce+Digital media plug in.
The next step is only a global Search Engine. Maybe it's already the google image search.
Then no more agencies are needed :o
Yesterday I was searching for some images on Google, the first 200-300 images were mostly from agencies. Its hard to get your images between those images.

Plus a buyer needs to know that they can purchase a single image and dont have to subscribe etc. When I purchase an image its always from CanStockPhoto or Symbio sites as they offer me a single image and credit card / PayPal checkout. I dont want to subscribe, I dont want to buy credits, I dont want to by 5 images. Thats why I purchase from CanStockPhoto or Symbio and I would consider it a USP these days.

The agency monopolies will fall in the future because they are simply unnecessary and too expensive for buyers and sellers.

For example if I want to buy a monitor I do not buy through an agency but I'll find a good deal through google. Maybe ebay or amazon but they take about 10%.
Why should it not also go for digital goods?
Of course, Google, eBay, Amazon, etc. are also monopolists but cheaper than microstock agencies.

that looks very good! Does it needs only WP or Woocommerce too?

It is a plugin for wordpress. GPP has themes that integrate right into the plugin, but when I had my site, I used a different theme from photocrati (http://www.photocrati.com/)  because there wasn't much choice in the GPP themes. Since then, they have added more choices for themes, tho.

thx. They hopefully have a VAT solution ...
