UAP are real, they just aren't aliens.
Who are they?
That's a politically correct term for non-gender, non-racial, unidentified objects, which are as a collection, "they". Otherwise the answer might be, people see something but IT isn't aliens? Already 27 pages in the topic. Can anyone answer whether UFOs and aliens exist or not?
UFOs exist, whatever name anyone wants to call them. Just by definition, if something flies and it's unidentified, it's a UFO. The whole leap of faith is, that somehow we are being visited by aliens, just because something is unexplained. They are not universally one in the same, except for the "believers". Aliens might exist, but there has been no proof yet. The other side of that assumption is, The universe seems pretty large and endless, we might guess, logically and even using math, that other life forms, and maybe other intelligent beings, could possibly exist. No proof that they are visiting us. Well don't forget that the original intention of this subject wasn't to discuss that it was a question of had anyone captured a UAP in their photography. Bit of fun.
Oh this was supposed to be fun? OK, here's my UFO photograph, and it's real, so there's your proof. This is more real than Billy Meier. Early UFO stories boosted newspaper and magazine sales, mystery strange tales book sales, and today they are reliable clickbait online.

Is Grom asking if anyone here sells on Amazon?
Can digital photos and videos be sold on Amazon?
I guess no one else, has the time to type in a search for, "can I sell digital products on Amazon"? https://www.nichepursuits.com/how-to-sell-digital-downloads-on-amazon/I'm not going to say this is a good or viable way to make money or her blog post is 100% accurate, just that, the answer is out there. Photographers and graphic artists can also use Amazons marketplace to sell digital downloads and generate passive income via Amazon Merch. It allows artists to upload designs and create products with those designs, including t-shirts, mugs, pillows, and more. Here's what Amazon says: https://merch.amazon.com/landingI don't think it looks like digital downloads, but does look like POD.

Is Caption ranked the same as Tags? Are Supertags more important than Caption?
No. Caption is the most important. Weight order is:
1) Caption 2) Super Tags 3) Ordinary Tags
This is why repeating of anything already present in Caption doesn't have practical effect. I verified this by experimenting with my own images; searching as customer would for words in Caption only, and later on with same words duplicated in Tags. (I waited few days to make sure everything is re-indexed). No difference.
If they change things so that weight from different sections adds up if keywords are repeated, then it becomes different game. But then algorithm becomes too convoluted & not worth the effort IMHO
Good to know and keep in mind if I want to push specific images, from a set, to the front.

Why is it that sometimes the AI tools (I have used Firefly 2.0) seem to generate the "same person" or very similar looking people multiple times? Aren't they trained on some huge number of different images?
I just started with Firefly, for fun and entertainment. I noticed that when I changed the settings, Intensity or Strength, I often got what looked like the same "Seed" information in the next set. Then the set after that, maybe a repeat of a different version. They might be slightly distorted or the background might change, but the results are not nearly as varied as DALL-E or Night Cafe'. I also in my early viewing and experimenting, have found that Firefly doesn't have a great depth of knowledge on obscure subjects. It doesn't react the same way as others do, to style commands. And for anyone reading this who hasn't used Firefly IT DOESN'T SAVE WORK OR CREATIONS! I lost the first hour of work, when I decided to download some, and discovered, closing the browser, loses all links and cache. Then I stared some as favorites and came back the next day, those are gone too. Save as you go! But yes, I see similar images, even when I'm changing the prompt and when I'm using my own uploaded original start material.

I would also consider using Pictorem as well as (or instead of) FAA. They have free shipping to the USA and Canada, have a much easier and faster upload process and I have found them to be very helpful. I did a review of them back in 2022:
https://backyardsilver.com/pictorem-a-place-to-sell-your-art/
And I recently compared their underlying costs of various sizes of prints against FAA costs that showed that they were often cheaper for similar sized prints. Gives you a bit more opportunity to increase your margins perhaps!

Steve
Thanks for the lead on Pictorem Steve. I don't see anyone mentioning the pay package at FAA also includes Pixels, which includes a website link, and there are shopping cart widgets. Some items that are POD on Pixels are not available on FAA. Maybe that's not important, but that's added products. And the free website link is nice: http://peteklinger.com/faacart.html

"Super" keywords should NOT be what's is already in the Title.
Do you mean 'caption' rather than title?
Yes, Caption. It's just one field at Alamy I sometime call it "Caption" sometime "Title". But correct word is "Caption", sorry about that.
Answer to question is redundancy. Let's say you have an image of Apple and Caption reads "Beautiful Big Red Delicious Apple". All these 5 words have been indexed separately (not as phrase) and with highest weight. Repeating any of them as super keywords is redundant and won't increase discoverability. It doesn't hurt; it simply has no effect. Instead your super keywords can be something like "healthy" "food" "snack" "natural" "organic" and normal keywords say "eating" "snacking" "sweet" "dessert" etc.
Further, if both you and me have image of that apple, but you repeated words from Caption in keywords. It won't make your image higher in search results. Factor that determines that is 1) Image sales history - ie if your apple sold twice, mine never your apple will be higher 2) Contributor Alamy Rank - if my rank is higher than yours, then my apple is higher than yours, given that they both have same sale history. What happens if my Alamy Rank is higher, but your apple sold more I am not sure - but I believe they periodically tweak these things in their algorithm.
Don't be sorry, many agencies have different names for the same things. One language, one definition, would be nice. I'm still confused: If it doesn't hurt and doesn't help, why the NOT be the same or what's already the Caption? Is Caption ranked the same as Tags? Are Supertags more important than Caption? I can say, for the positive, at least they don't have the three boxes and description as well as Caption. Talk about making information about photos more complicated than any other site. Then they eliminated Description, which was there, but ignored, followed by re-ordering the rank of the three boxes, (and making a different one hidden) and then some magical merge of all three into one, which means for a third or fourth time, I had to go back and re-edit the data. I still don't know what happened to some of the information that was originally uploaded with the files.

Thanks for the help, I'm using a laptop, I was able to see the option when I zoomed out in my browser.
Yes, it's funny to consider that we're all on the same Internet, looking at the same site, same page, and there are so many various ways the same content, might display.

Caption Alamy 150 characters (Taken from IPTC Description field) Description SS or IS 200 characters, DT ? many more seem to be allowed? Title Adobe 70 characters? (but Adobe will read from Description if Title field is blank) What was the question? The official field is Description, except: "The Description field, often referred to as a caption is used to describe the who, what (and possibly where and when) and why of what is happening in the photograph."According to IPTC: The "Title" field, is intended to be a unique identifier for the benefit of the creator of an image or for an organization that archives the image.Someone might mention that to Adobe, but I think it's too late. They have the train on their own railroad.

Brutal, how is this even possible? 3 to 4 cents comissions? What the heck?
I wouldn't be surprised if all agencies are ripping off their contributors since they all have become to greedy.
Didn't we also have the thread about Shutterstock, where even sales were not passed on to the contributors?
IStock states that they pay out almost 2 million a week. Presumably that's a similar number of sales. So mistakes can happen ... You probably don't even notice smaller ones and they are simply covered up.
Nobody can check the sales system.
3 or 4 cents has been going on for some time at IS. Check their forum, I think some people have been as low as 2 and that's not Connect, that's a iStock or Getty download. All agencies have their best self interest to pay us what we are due and not cheat. If someone ever found out there were unpaid downloads, that were paid for and licensed, there would be one heck of a lawsuit, which could destroy the business. Didn't we also have the thread about Shutterstock, where even sales were not passed on to the contributors? Alleged, claimed, unsupported, unless you believe everything you read on an Internet Forum, without any proof? Correct, nobody can check the sales system. We can't anywhere or for many other business in life. There has to be some trust? If anyone works on a commission basis, they have to believe that the company they work for, is going to be honest and report everything. Otherwise, why start? I noticed that, as usual, the people who claim SS is a bunch of crooks and insulting us with 10, don't have an answer to why they are not just as insulted or worse for 3 downloads and connect sales, from iStock? But people flocked away from SS in protest, and formed a coalition, tried a boycott, and two years later can't stop writing hate messages... still work for IS? As a note: I still work for both. Yes, I'm insulted, but I'll take the money.

We're committing to four pledges to the Affinity community, including that we will always offer perpetual licenses for Affinity.
Read more here: https://www.canva.com/newsroom/news/affinity-canva-pledge/
Just that the price won't be $49 anymore, it will be $490? Actually I still use Elements and Premier which are $149 download. I have Affinity and I also have the free CC Photo package. Here's hoping that Canva with more financial backing, will improve Affinity and make it even better. If I understand this right, Canva was started to help people who don't have editing training and wanted a simple way to create. Affinity is pretty straight forward and fits the same goal. Competition is good for all of us.

"Super" keywords should NOT be what's is already in the Title.
Please explain? Why not in both if the word is very important and enough to be a SuperTag?

I have the same problem when viewing on Ipad. It has been reported as a bug few weeks back on Discord. Since then there is not much improvement. I have to turn the Ipad vertically to see the option "sort by date". Hopefully it will be fixed.
Ah I see, the question might have included what device, what OS, what browser. Not as simple as my reply with "it's still there". I'm on a desktop with a nice moderate size monitor. I remember some things that don't show when I use a full size laptop or or are missing on the smaller notebook on some sites. I hadn't thought that people use tablets as their main devices for photo work and stock sites. Do people shoot, edit and upload from iPads now? Hopefully the link I included in the first reply, helped out? But Tom has the direct link. (so I went back and changed it on my post)

Everything I upload to Alamy already has the keywords. The only part I check is Supertags for the most important words. Maybe a location if important.

The question I have for the people that got heaps of refunds, were your earnings for November oddly high (by about the same amount as the refunds)?
Pretty shoddy on the part of Getty all around.
That's really good question. Went and checked: Nov '23 was my 3rd best month last year on iStock, but nothing out of proportion.
Accounting certainly appears shady, but I don't think it's deliberate - whole system is set up in such a bad way it is easy for all kinds of mistakes to creep in. Biggest thorn to me is 15% royalty which is downright disrespectful.
Agreed Pretty funny or odd, or I ask, how do people reason out the glaring contradiction, when SS pays us more and a higher percentage, with a higher minimum, but they can't stop shouting how bad SS is or what crooks they are? "I'd never upload anything to SS, paying 10 cents is an insult." I won't dwell on Connect which is, fractions of cents, because no one really knows what or how those images are used. Maybe for mock-ups, or maybe not. Maybe on a website, or chat, or somewhere in Asia for some mystery use, and maybe not. We don't get anything detailed or specific. Oh but we do get hundredths of a cent royalty. BUT... for iStock when we do get the details. How do we get downloads like this? 4 cents? 3 cents? Type Regular Month 2024-02 Sales date 2/5/2024 Uploaded 5/30/2013 Gross royalty $0.04762 License Fee $0.31745 Rate 15% File Type Editorial Image Type Regular Month 2024-02 Sales date 2/6/2024 Uploaded 10/6/2011 Gross royalty $0.03150 License Fee $0.21000 Rate 15% Please tell me how SS is nothing but despicable crooks, and then someone explain, how iStock isn't worse? Oh IS is much better, they pay fractions of cents, and then 3 cents or 4 cents. Really? That's better than the terrible, insulting, demoralizing... 10

Yes it's an old thread but just curious if the overall guidelines contained in here are still applicable or have there been any backend changes to AS/Search/Keywording in the meantime that we need to be aware of?
Good question, I hope Mat sees that and has any information on possible changes.

I can't answer the first part of your question, but the Schedule C is where you will be able to declare all your expenses and deductions, like cameras, lenses, computer equipment, etc. I can't imagine you will be better off declaring all of the income with none of the deductions.
That's the way my accountant does it, Schedule C. But, make a note, cameras, lenses, computers, Etc. "equipment" is depreciated not deducted. Expenses, fuel, travel, lodging, supplies, are deductions.

In future, if the customer licenses and downloads some of the affected assets for actual, published projects, these will appear on Connect statements.
Oh I feel so much better, that maybe, in the future, I might get a fractional, 1/100th of a cent, Connect credit for this error.

Hello all, I have a simple question regarding uploading AI images to Adobe Stock: Is it better to upload them as 'illustrations' or as 'photos'?.. Looking forward to your anwers. Kind regards devy
Since it seems to be you ignore what photography is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photography
I'm surprised that anyone would be confused about what to call AI. AI or anything else, computer generated, can never be a "Photograph". Only a Photograph is a photograph which is recording of light. Everything else is an illustration. (if those are the only two choices)

This is all Uncle Pete fault for starting thread too early
I gave that a plus! Kelvin said on the forums that there is no need to open a ticket, they are already looking into it.
Well we can hope? I pretty well came up with two personal answers, that could cover this. 1) Someone bought a whopping big package and downloaded everything they could, until Getty figured out the payment was a fraud? or 2) Accounting Error. It just seems odd that so many people, even someone like myself who barely does $10 a month on IS, would have so many refunds. Or if it is #1, someone just downloaded most of everything from IS. Just a note, the two I sold, that are refunded, were the same image, two times.

I see what you mean by the iStock forum going berserk.
All the negative sales seem to be listed as:-
Customer: NA (WASHINGTON) Type: Premium Access Time Limited Date: 12th November 2023
Mine too, I went back and they are listed in the November ESP download. I checked the PDF versions. "WASHINGTON 100.00% Getty 12.35 15.00% 1.85" Where do you find these negative sales listed?
If you aren't useing Deep Meta, look on ESP and download the PDF version, the refunds will be in red near the bottom, listed as GETTY

Coming Monday, the 18th. But I thought I'd just jump ahead and start the thread.
How did you know they were going to be late this month?
Posted as a joke Fully expect Istock to beat shutterstock this month considering how low SS sales have dropped off lately. Only happened twice before, January and February of 2024.
I guess I jumped the gun on this. First time ever that I've had "negative sales" on istock and it's a substantial amount. I hope it's a glitch but goddamn, it sucks whatever little enthusiasm I had for this "game".
Wow and the joke is on me, as I have negative sales too. Hopefully this is a mistake and they will issue the real "earnings" revised report.

In my opinion, the author of this post is bored in life
Yes, it was a slow day, I was bored and wanted to start a thread about IS reporting earnings and stop reading theories about how fast Adobe reviews, because of some secret system (which of course always favors someone else) or our rank (which is meaningless). I was also bored with all the talk of AI, whether it's good or bad or will ruin stock forever. You're right. I'm also disappointed that IS had all weekend to run stats and report our lovely Connect Sales: License Fee $0.00276 @ Rate 15% Gross royalty $0.00041 👈 I finished all my March Madness brackets, read all the details of Draft Kings, NASCAR and PGA Golf. The weather was cold and windy. Yup, I'm bored. The statement usually comes in by the 20th. Often it's earlier, but the 20th ist the official date.
I do not know where the info is from, I just remember that that's the date I have read on their website at some point. Thought it might have been their forum, but it looks like iStock followed Shutterstock's lead and took down their forum?
ps Dec was the 18th, Jan was the 18th, Feb was the 16th. Just a note for those with faulty memories, NO it's not usually reported on the 20th. From the official site: "Royalty Statements are published on the 20th of each month. You will see what you have sold and what you have earned and can download that data." And here's the forum that they took down. https://contributors.gettyimages.com/forum/Now please IS, I'll be back soon, show me the money?
